
6 year-old accidently kills 5 year-old sister – parents arrested
A 6 year-old boy found his family’s gun safe unlocked, and fatally shot his younger sister. Muncie Police were called to the scene around 2:30pm on Tuesday, after the report of the shooting. The 5 year-old sister of the shooter was found in the family’s home but was pronounced dead at IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital. Parents Kimberly and Jacob Grayson were arrested for Neglect of a Dependent Resulting in Death and several Felony counts of Neglect of a Dependent.

Duke Energy Foundation awards over $175,000 to support Indiana First Responders

The Duke Energy Foundation is awarding more than $175,000 in microgrants to support 47 local Emergency Management agencies across the company’s Indiana service territory. The funding is designed to help Public Safety agencies increase their resiliency to severe weather events and other emergencies through advanced preparation, planning, equipment, and training.
During major emergencies and natural disasters, local Emergency Management agencies play a critical role in providing information, resources, and support that Duke Energy relies on to speed power restoration for its customers. The grants will help fund search and rescue K-9s, the installation of tornado sirens, search and rescue programs for “at-risk” individuals, volunteer training, and various emergency preparedness and response programs. Emergency Management agencies in Monroe, Orange, Lawrence, Brown, and Owen Counties are among the $5,000 recipients.

Indiana University Health Medical Center (Indianapolis) among the nation’s top adult hospitals
U.S. News & World Report has released its 2022-2023 ‘Best Hospitals’ rankings that include Indiana University Health Medical Center (Indianapolis) among the nation’s top adult hospitals for the 25th consecutive year. IU Health Medical Center remains the No. 1-ranked hospital in Indiana and Indianapolis and the only nationally ranked adult hospital in the state. U.S. News evaluated more than 4,500 medical centers nationwide in 35 specialties, procedures and conditions to create its rankings.
For 2022-2023, IU Health Medical Center (comprising Methodist, University, and Saxony hospitals) was rated as high performing nationally in five specialties, with a sixth specialty achieving a top 50 national ranking:
- Ear, Nose & Throat—ranked 45th in nation
- Gastroenterology and GI surgery—high performing
- Geriatrics—high performing
- Neurology & Neurosurgery—high performing
- Pulmonology & Lung Surgery—high performing
- Urology—high performing

This Week in Hoosier History

1931 – Several members of the winning Notre Dame football team made a trip to Los Angeles to take part in a major motion picture. Pictured in the news event were Elmer Layden, Harry Stuhldreher, Jimmy Crowley, and Don Miller. Along with the group was Bonnie Rockne, the widow of famous coach Knute Rockne. The movie, entitled “The Spirit of Notre Dame,” included other players along with movie actors Lew Ayres, Andy Devine, and Sally Blane.
