City of Bloomington to launch ‘Go Bloomington’, a site designed to provide real time transportation information
Stating an objective to reduce the number of single-occupant vehicles (SOVs) operating in town, the City of Bloomington is launching its new program Go Bloomington. Go Bloomington was conceptualized through the City’s Transportation Demand Management (TDM) Plan in 2020, which also sparked the hiring of a brand new City Administration position, the Transportation Demand Manager. TDM is said to consist of programs, education, pricing, and other strategies to shift behavior using existing infrastructure and maximize traveler options. The Bloomington TDM program was branded ‘Go Bloomington’ early this year.

The new Go Bloomington website at gobloomington.org includes a software matching program that connects people interested in carpooling or vanpooling. The website provides a layered map that allows users to access Bloomington Transit and Indiana University Campus routes with real-time bus locations. Map layers also show the shortest routes for walking, biking, or where e-bikes and e-scooters are located.

The City of Bloomington will hold a public address in front of Bloomington City Hall at 2pm, on Tuesday, September 6th, to officially launch the project. The “free and family-friendly” event will feature Transportation Demand Manager Jeffrey Jackson, along with guest speakers Deputy Mayor Don Griffin and Council President Susan Sandberg. Commute with Enterprise will have an example vanpool vehicle on display and Lime will be introducing their new e-bikes into service at the event.
