
Indiana-Penn State Football game time set
The homestretch of the 2022 season sees the Indiana football program hosting Penn State at 3:30 p.m. on ABC at Memorial Stadium on Saturday. Indiana (3-5, 1-4 B1G) and Penn State (6-2, 3-2 B1G) meet for the 26th time on the gridiron, with the two teams splitting the last two meetings. Indiana claimed a thrilling 36-35 overtime win in the last contest played in Bloomington. The Hoosiers are coming off a bye week while Penn State lost to Ohio State 44-31 at home last Saturday.
Indiana University Men’s Cross Country finishes 3rd at Big Ten Championships
Behind a pair of strong individual performances, the Indiana Cross Country teams finished 3rd (Men) and 7th (Women) at the 2022 Big Ten Cross Country Championships on the campus of the University of Michigan. Gabriel Sanchez had his biggest performance to date in his young career, earning the bronze medal and taking third place individually. He closed down Wisconsin’s duo in the final 50 meters to come within two seconds of the winner with a time of 23:50.4 He is IU’s highest individual finisher at the Big Ten XC Championships since 2016 (Jason Crist) and improved vastly on his 45th place finish last season. The men scored 89 points to finish behind Wisconsin and Michigan in the team standings. Jake Gebhardt was 16th with Edgewood Grad Austin Haskett (21st), Camden Marshall (24th) and Dustin Horter (33rd) closing out the scoring for the Hoosiers. The men finished in the top-3 at the Big Ten XC Championships for the 10th time under head coach Ron Helmer.
On the women’s side, Sarah Schmitt held pace with the lead pack for over 5000 meters before Ohio State’s Addie Engel pulled away to win the individual title. Schmitt finished 5th in 20:18.2 to grab First Team All-Big Ten Honors for the first time in her career. It was the fourth time she’s earned All-Big Ten Honors for Cross Country in her career after being on the Second Team the previous three championship races. Mariah Wherle finished in 19th with Maddie Dalton (27th), Phoebe Bates (49th) and Katelyn Winton (72nd) rounding out the scoring for the women’s team 7th Place finish. This marked the first time since 2019 that IU has had an individual on both the men’s and women’s side in the top-5 at the Big Ten XC Championships. IU’s postseason roster will head to the NCAA Great Lakes Regional in two weeks’ time to attempt to qualify for the NCAA Cross Country Championships (Nov. 19).
Indiana University Football Wide Receiver Cam Camper out for season with torn ACL
Indiana’s leading wide receiver Cam Camper has suffered a season-ending injury coach Tom Allen announced on Monday. “Unfortunately, Cam Camper has torn his ACL, and he’ll be out for the rest of the season,” Allen said. “He’ll have surgery in the near future. He did that in the first half against Rutgers. Obviously, we feel terrible for him. He’s a huge part of our team. He’ll be beginning that long road to recovery and our staff will do a great job of getting him ready for the fall.”
Camper leads IU with 46 receptions for 569 yards. He ranks 32nd in the country and fifth in the Big Ten with 81.3 yards per game. He’s also tied for 18th in the nation and fourth in the conference with 6.6 receptions per game. He had 11 grabs for 156 yards in the season opening win against Illinois.
Allen said linebacker Cam Jones was playing at an All-American level before his injury, but with four games left he’s running out of season. He’s still week-to-week coming out of the bye Allen said on Monday. Jones is dealing with a foot injury and hasn’t played since the Nebraska game. Jones revealed on Monday the injury actually occurred during the second quarter of that game, but he kept playing. “I’ve just got to stay patient, and keep attacking it day-by-day,” Jones said. Jones has 54 tackles, a sack, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery in five games this season.
Indiana-Penn State Men’s Soccer Big Ten Tournament Game set for 7pm Friday night
The Big Ten Conference announced Monday that Friday nights Big Ten Men’s Soccer Tournament Quarterfinal Match between the Fifth seed Penn State Nittany Lions and the Fourth Seed Indiana Hoosiers will take place at 7pm on Jerry Yeagley Field at Bill Armstrong Stadium with match televised on Big Ten Network Plus. Indiana finished the regular season at 8-3-6 and 3-1-4 in the Big Ten. The Hoosiers and Maryland played to a 1-1 draw Sunday and gave draw gave Maryland the Big Ten Regular Season Championship after Wisconsin beat Ohio State 3-2 giving Maryland needing a draw to take home the title outright.
Penn State beat Michigan Sunday 3-2 as the Nittany Lions finished the regular season 6-5-4 overall and 3-2-3 in the Big Ten. Penn State and Indiana met on October 14, on Jerry Yeagley Field at Bill Armstrong Stadium as the Hoosiers won 4-2 and captured the programs 700th all time win becoming the seventh Men’s Soccer Program to get to that win total and the quickest to 700 wins in the programs 50th season of Men’s Varsity Soccer.
All Four Quarterfinal Matches will be played at the same time Friday night and will be televised on Big Ten Network Plus. 8 Seed Northwestern is at top seed Maryland with winner of that match facing the Penn State-Indiana winner. On the other side of the bracket, it will be seventh seed Wisconsin traveling to second seed Rutgers while sixth seed Michigan State travels to third see Ohio State. The Semifinals will be held on Wednesday November 9, with the highest remaining seeds hosting. The Championship will be held at the highest remaining seed on Sunday November 13th at Noon. The Semifinals and Championship will be televised on the Big Ten Network. Times for the Semifinal games will be announced after Friday’s quarterfinal games are completed.
Indiana University Volleyball splits weekend with Rutgers and Purdue
The Indiana University Volleyball team beat Rutgers 3-1 Last Friday night in Wilkinson Hall then lost 3-1 at Purdue on Sunday Afternoon. The Hoosiers are 13-11 overall and 6-6 in the Big Ten and travel to Nebraska tomorrow night for a 9pm match that will be televised on the Big Ten Network.
Behind a career night from Morgan Geddes and equally as great night from Mady Saris the Indiana Volleyball team rattled off its fourth-straight win with a 3-1 victory in Wilkinson Hall. Geddes provided a career best 17 kills as IU bested Rutgers 25-13, 25-17, 25-27, 25-14. The victory marks a fourth straight for the Hoosiers, the first four-game winning streak in the Big Ten since 2008. Rutgers got back into the match after picking off the third set, but IU put the Scarlet Knights to bed in the fourth set to record the victory. Camryn Haworth recorded a double-double (38 assists, 14 digs) to help pace the Hoosiers’ offense while Mady Saris (five blocks) and Kaley Rammelsberg (four blocks) helped hold Rutgers to just .017 offensively on the evening.
Despite winning the opening set, the Hoosiers couldn’t overcome Purdue’s offensive attack in Holloway Gymnasium. The Hoosiers fell in four sets (25-18, 15-25, 10-25, 13-25), snapping a four-game winning streak in the conference. Camryn Haworth provided 33 assists in the defeat while Paula Cerame dug 14 balls and had four service aces. IU has now completed 24 matches in the regular season with the final 25% (eight matches) left to play as the calendar flips to November.
