Indiana Women’s Swimming and Diving 16th at NCAA Championships

Indiana Women’s Swimming and Diving is 16th with 30 points after Day 2 of the NCAA Championships in Greensboro North Carolina. The 200 Freestyle Relay finished in 18th place with a time of 1:29.51. Anne Fowler finished 6th place in the 1-meter diving with a score of 318.65 which earned her first team All-America Honors. Tarrin Gilliland finished 12th place in the 1-meter diving with a score of 290.50 which earned her Honorable Mention All American Honors. Action Gets underway at 10 AM this morning with Prelims and Finals at 6 PM.  

Texas Southern and Norfolk State Wins First Four Games at Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall

The NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament is Underway with 2 first four games that were played at Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall last night. Game 1 Saw 16 Seed Texas Southern beat 16 Seed Mount St Mary’s 60-52. Texas Southern will Play top seed 1 Michigan tomorrow afternoon. Game 2 saw 16 Seed Norfolk State beat 16 Seed Appalachian State 54-53 after the Mountaineers had two chances to win the game and both shots fell short. Norfolk State will play top Seed Gonzaga tomorrow night.

Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall Hosting NCAA First Round Games Tonight and Tomorrow

Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall will host four NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament first round games today and tomorrow. Today’s games will see 11 Seed Utah State take on 6 Seed Texas Tech in the South Region at 1:45 PM on TNT. Texas Tech Head coach Chris Beard was a longtime assistant coach under former Indiana and Texas Tech Head Coach Bob Knight for 10 Years working for Pat Knight as well. The second game at 7:15 PM on Tru TV 15 Seed Cleveland State takes on 2nd seed Houston in the Midwest Region. 14 Seed Cleveland State upset 3 Seed Indiana in the 1986 NCAA First Round 83-79 in Syracuse NY. Houston is coached by former Indiana Coach Kelvin Sampson who coached from 2006-08 before being fired for NCAA Violations. Houston also has one Indiana Native on its roster with freshman Kiyron Powell from Evansville Bosse HS. Tomorrow’s Games feature 9 Seed St Bonaventure and 8 Seed LSU in the East Region at 1:45 PM on TNT. St Bonaventure has Logansport Indiana Native Jalen Adaway who is a Junior on its roster. LSU has Sophomore Trendon Watford who’s older brother Christian Played at IU from 2009-2013 and had a buzzer beater December 10th, 2011 to beat number 1 Kentucky in Assembly Hall. At 7:15 on TRU TV 13 Seed Ohio takes on 4 Seed and Defending National Champion Virginia. Capacity is 500 fans per game and no public tickets are available.      

Bloomington South Boys Basketball Headed to Semistate

Bloomington South Boys Basketball will be taking on Lawrence North tomorrow at 3 PM at Seymour HS for the Class 4A Southern Semistate Championship.  The Panthers are 25-4 and carry an 18-game winning streak into the Game. The Panthers are looking for their 3rd semistate championship in the school history the won it 2009 and 2011 and went on to win the Class 4A State Championship both of those years.  Bloomington South coach JR Holmes is the all-time winningest coach in Indiana High Basketball History with 861 Wins in 51 seasons. Lawrence North is 27-2 and carry an 11-game winning streak into the game. The Wildcats are Led by Butler Signee DJ Hughes and Junior CJ Gunn who is a verbal commit to Indiana University. Lawrence North is for their 5th semi state championship. They won in 1989 and 3 straight from 2004-06 in which they went on to win the state title all 4 times. Lawrence North Jack Keefer has won 847 games in 49 years which is 2nd all time behind Holmes.  The Winner of this Game will Face the winner of Northern Semistate between Gary Westside and Carmel at the State Finals April 3rd at Bankers Life Fieldhouse In Indianapolis.
