Indiana Men’s Basketball looks bounce back as they host Nebraska Indiana University continues Big Ten Conference play in its 123rd season of competition in men’s basketball as hosts of Nebraska. The game is scheduled for an 8:30pm tip off this evening at Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall. The game will be broadcasted on BTN. The Cornhuskers, led by fourth-year head coach Fred Hoiberg and enter the game with a 6-3 record. Indiana has won 18 of the 25 matchups against Nebraska, including six straight victories over the Cornhuskers. Indiana swept Nebraska a season ago with wins on Dec. 4 (68-55) and Jan. 17 (78-71). In the two victories, Trayce Jackson-Davis averaged 18.5 points, 9.5 rebounds, and 2.0 blocks. Race Thompson finished the sweep with 11.5 points and 9.0 rebounds per contest.

Fifth-year senior forward Miller Kopp matched his career high with five made 3-pointers in Indiana’s 63-48 loss at Rutgers on Dec. 3 to open the 2022-23 Big Ten slate. He finished with a game-high 21 points to go along with three rebounds. Senior forward Trayce Jackson-Davis notched his 35th-career double-double after compiling 13 points and 10 boards for the Hoosiers. He also chipped in four blocks. The Hoosier defense is holding opponents to 60.5 points per content on 36.4% shooting from the floor and 29.1% shooting from the 3-point line. Indiana has held seven of eight opponents this season to under 40.0% shooting from the floor. Indiana limited Morehead State to 53 points, the fewest allowed by an opponent in an Indiana season opener since Nov. 13, 2015, when Indiana beat Eastern Illinois, 88-49.

True freshman forward Malik Reneau and junior forward Jordan Geronimo combine for 14.6 points and 6.9 rebounds per contest on 49-of-85 shooting (57.6%) from the floor. They have added 16 steals and blocked 15 shots. Sophomore guard Tamar Bates and sophomore guard Trey Galloway lead the second unit backcourt. The duo has combined for a 3.7-1 assist-turnover ratio and have more steals (7) than turnovers (6). IU ranks 22nd nationally in bench points per game (32.5). The Hoosiers are 21-4 under head coach Mike Woodson when the bench outscores the opponent’s second unit.

Indiana University Women’s Basketball receives highest ranking in school history The Indiana University Women’s Basketball team is ranked 3rd in this week’s coaches’ poll which is the highest ranking in school history. The Hoosiers are 9-0 on the season 1-0 in the Big Ten after a 65-61 win over Illinois Sunday afternoon in Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall. Indiana travels to Penn State for a 7pm tipoff tomorrow night. Indiana is ranked 4th in the associated press poll which ties the highest ranking the Hoosiers have had in that poll. South Carolina is number 1 and Stanford Number 2 in both polls. Ohio State is 3rd in AP and 4th in Coaches while Notre Dame is 5th in both polls.

IU Football’s Cam Jones and Luke Haggard earn East-West Shrine Bowl invitations The Indiana fifth-year senior duo of linebacker Cam Jones and offensive lineman Luke Haggard have each accepted invitations to participate in the 98th annual East-West Shrine Bowl on February 2, 2023, at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas. The East-West Shrine Bowl is the longest-running college all-star football game in the nation. An important part of America’s football tradition, the event gives top college players a chance to showcase their talents to NFL scouts and a national television audience. Proceeds from the game benefit Shriners Children’s and its mission to provide excellent specialty care for children
 
Jones was among the nation’s top-10 tackles and sat atop the Big Ten through five weeks with his 55 stops prior to suffering a season-ending injury. His total was bolstered by his first four career double-digit tackle games and at least seven stops in each of his five games before his injury at Nebraska. Just the third three-time captain in program history, Jones had 12 stops in a season-opening win over Illinois and later added three-straight double-digit tackle contests before his injury. In his career, the Memphis, Tennessee, native logged 209 total tackles, 13.5 tackles for loss and 8.0 sacks over 47 games played. He earned his first career start against Penn State in 2020 and was a large part of Indiana’s back-to-back January bowl appearances for the first time in program history.
 
Haggard has played the most offensive snaps in the Big Ten entering bowl season at 903 snaps per Pro Football Focus. The Petaluma, California, native allowed just three sacks in 572 pass blocking snaps and was the No. 9 rated offensive tackle per Pro Football Focus entering the 2022 season. The East-West Shrine Bowl will be televised live on the NFL Network from Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas on February 2, 2023.

IU Men’s Soccer players Daniel Munie & Ryan Wittenbrink picked to All-Region teams Indiana men’s soccer redshirt seniors Daniel Munie and Ryan Wittenbrink were selected to United Soccer Coaches All-North Region teams as announced by the organization on Tuesday. For the second straight season Munie garnered first-team honors after becoming the first Hoosier to repeat as the Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year. Munie has led the Hoosiers to eight clean sheets this season including shutouts in each of IU’s three NCAA Tournament matches to advance to the 2022 NCAA Men’s College Cup. Munie was also a Big Ten All-Tournament team selection.

Wittenbrink has broken out as IU’s top point-earner this season, recording 18 goal contributions in 22 matches. The Liberty, Illinois, native is one of three NCAA Division-I men’s soccer players to have tallied at least nine goals and nine assists. Five of Wittenbrink’s nine goals have been game-winners for Indiana, including the lone score in IU’s 1-0, NCAA Tournament Second Round win over Saint Louis.

Both Munie and Wittenbrink earned first-team All-Big Ten honors following the regular season. Munie and Wittenbrink return to the NCAA College Cup for the second time in their careers after a runner-up finish at the 2020 cup. The Hoosiers kick off College Cup play in their semifinal matchup with Pittsburgh on Friday at 8:30pm on ESPNU.

IU Volleyball’s Camryn Haworth named AVCA Northeast all-region honorable mention Indiana sophomore setter Camryn Haworth added another postseason accolade to her resume after being named AVCA Northeast All-Region Honorable Mention, as announced by the AVCA on Tuesday morning. She was among seven other honorees on the Honorable Mention team to pair with 14 First-Team Athletes in a region that features three Sweet 16 teams (Wisconsin, Penn State and Ohio State) as well as Purdue and Illinois.
 
On the season, Haworth racked up 1111 assists, 290 digs, 127 kills, 56 blocks and 49 aces in one of the best all-around campaigns in program history. Along the way she earned Big Ten Setter of the Week (Nov. 21) and AVCA National Player of the Week honors before being named First Team All-Big Ten last week. She recorded a team-best 10 double-doubles and tallied her first-career triple-double (37 assists, 11 digs and 10 kills) in a victory over Northwestern. For her career, Haworth has 1,615 assists and is closing in on becoming just the 11th setter in program history to eclipse 2,000 assists. The Fishers, Ind. native becomes the first IU player to earn a nod as All-Region First Team or Honorable Mention since 2010 when Ashley Benson (First Team) and Jordan Haverly (Honorable Mention) both made the list.
