Indiana Men’s Basketball drops its third straight game The Indiana Hoosiers Men’s Basketball team fell to 1-4 in Big Ten play with an 85-66 loss at Penn State Wednesday Night at the Bryce Jordan Center in State College PA. The Hoosiers are 10-6 overall and have lost three in a row in the conference and Host Wisconsin Saturday afternoon at 1pm. The 19-point win is the largest margin of victory for Penn State in the series. Indiana leads the overall series 42-13 and has a 7-3 mark against the Nittany Lions in the last ten matchups. Penn State is 12-5 overall and 3-3 in the Big Ten. Penn State Led 37-26 at halftime and hit 9 first half three pointers while the Hoosiers hit 1. Penn State outscored Indiana 48-40 in the second half.

Trayce Jackson-Davis had 14 points and 11 rebounds. Jalen Hood-Schifino had 11 points and 6 rebounds. Trey Galloway who started in place of Tamar Bates scored 10 points. Tamar Bates had 11 points off the bench. Indiana was 26-59- from the field for 44%, 4-14 from three-point range for 28% and 10-18 from the free throw line for 55%. Indiana pulled down 38 rebounds, 15 assists, 4 steals 1 block and committed 11 turnovers.

Penn State tied the program record with 18 three pointers for 58% from beyond the arc on 31 attempts. Seth Lundy 25 points and went over 1,000 career points, Andrew Funk had 23 points as Lundy and Funk hit 14 three pointers. Jalen Pickett and Evan Mahaffey scored 12 points each. Penn State was 32-59 from the field for 54 % and 3-4 from the free throw line for 75%. Penn State pulled down 29 rebounds, 19 assists, 6 steals, 4 blocks and committed 7 turnovers.

Top Ten matchup in Women’s Basketball with #9 Maryland visiting #6 Indiana   Two Top 10 conference foes will battle it out on Tonight when No. 6/6 Indiana hosts No. 9/11 Maryland. Tipoff is set for 6:30pm at Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall on the Big Ten Network. Indiana is 14-1 overall and 4-1 in the Big Ten after a 72-50 win at Northwestern Sunday Afternoon. Maryland is 13-3 overall and 3-1 in the Big Ten as the Terps are coming off a 94-85 win over Michigan State Last Saturday afternoon in College Park.

Graduate student guard Grace Berger made her triumphant return on Sunday afternoon at Northwestern. In her first outing since suffering a knee injury on Nov. 25, the Louisville, Ky. native scored a season-high 16 points, five assist and two steals. She also eclipsed the 1,600-career scoring mark and became 10th all-time in scoring in school history. The Hoosiers picked up their first win in the series against Maryland in 2021-22, a regular season win at home and a victory in the quarterfinals of the Big Ten Tournament as Maryland leads the all-time series 12-2. Senior forward Mackenize Holmes leads the way for Indiana in scoring and rebounding as she continues her strong start to the 2022-23 season. Holmes has scored in double figures in all 15 games and has eight 20-point scoring games and one 30-point scoring game. The Gorham, Maine native is averaging 21.1 points and 8.0 rebounds – both team-highs – and is shooting 68.4 percent from the floor, which leads the Big Ten. Ninth year head coach Teri Moren picked up her 186th victory at the helm of the Hoosiers on Sunday in the win at Northwestern, pulling closer to the all-time coaching win record in school history. She needs two more victories to tie Jim Izard’s 188 wins that he amassed over 12 seasons.

Maryland has won its last five, dating back to December 8 and includes a win over then No. 6 UConn. Senior forward Diamond Miller leads the way with 18.7 points and 6.7 rebounds per game while sophomore guard Shyanne Sellers adds 14.7 points per outing. The Terps are led by Brenda Freese who is 548-143 in 21 seasons as Maryland Head Coach. Freese is 605-173 overall in 24 seasons as a head coach which include stops at Ball State from 1999-2001 and Minnesota from 2001-2002. Freese coached Maryland to the 2006 National Championship and has 39-16 NCAA Tournament record.

Indiana University Volleyball adds Natalia Hagopain to the team   Indiana volleyball coach Steve Aird announced the signing of 5-foot-10 setter Natalia Hagopian (pronounced nuh-tall-e-uh; huh-go-pe-in) to the program on Wednesday morning. The Laguna Beach, Calif. native played her freshman season at Northeastern University and will join the Hoosiers with three years of eligibility remaining. She has enrolled for the spring semester. “Nat is a great addition to our program,” Aird said. “She is a polished volleyball player with the ability to do a variety of skills well.  She fits our system and plays hard.  Most importantly, she is a wonderful human being and a great teammate.  We are all excited to get back in the gym and build on a solid season”.
 
During her three seasons in high school, her junior year canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Hagopian played in 255 sets, dishing out 1,429 assists while recording 454 digs and 109 aces. In her freshman campaign at Northeastern, she recorded 57 assists and 20 digs including a double-double (38 assists, 10 digs) in the season opener against UTEP. Hagopian played her club volleyball for Mizuno Long Beach Volleyball Club. She joins Camryn Haworth and incoming freshman Luca Fickell as the team’s setters for the 2023 season.
 
She will become the 12th California native to play for IU and the first since Emily Fitzner (2019-2022). “It means a lot to be joining the Indiana Volleyball program,” Hagopian said. “It allows me to attend an amazing university and play the best volleyball I possibly can. I am very humbled by this opportunity and very excited to join the Indiana family!”

Indiana University Football adds Austin Peay transfer Joshua Rudolph Indiana has landed a commitment from Austin Peay linebacker transfer Joshua Rudolph, he announced on Wednesday. Rudolph has the potential to use three years of eligibility at Indiana. During the 2022 season, Rudolph had 73 tackles, 7.5 tackles for loss and one quarterback hurry in 11 games. In 2021, he had 21 tackles in seven games. Rudolph was a three-star prospect in the class of 2021. He was rated as the No. 60 player in Alabama.

The Park Crossing (AL) High school linebacker had offers from South Alabama, Troy, Austin Peay, East Tennessee State, UAB and others. Kentucky, Texas A&M and Auburn were some other programs that showed interest in him out of high school. He is a 6-foot and 230-pound linebacker with good physical skills and quickness getting downhill. Rudolph becomes the 14th transfer to commit to Indiana this offseason and the 11th in the last week.

Indiana University Water Polo ranked 13th in CWPA preseason top 25    Indiana Water Polo will begin the 2023 season ranked in the CWPA preseason Top 25 at No. 13. The Hoosiers are coming off their best finish in the MPSF last season where they finished fifth in the MPSF Championships and posted a 15-15 overall record which included wins over eight ranked foes. The Hoosiers kickoff the season on Friday January 20 at UCLA with a 3pm start time.
 
Highlighting the returners include ACWPC All-American honorable mentions in graduate student goalie Mary Askew and senior utility Zoe Crouch. Crouch led the program last season in points (83) and assists (53) while scoring 30 goals. Sophomore center Skylar Kidd also returns after a freshman campaign that earned her MPSF newcomer team honors.
