Indiana University Men’s Basketball earns #3 seed in Big Ten Tournament
With the Big Ten regular season complete, Indiana men’s basketball finally knows its position for the conference tournament. The Hoosiers will be the No. 3 seed in Chicago, after they defeated Michigan and Northwestern beat Rutgers. Indiana will face either No. 6 seed Maryland, No. 11 seed Nebraska, or No. 14 seed Minnesota in the quarterfinals on Friday. That game will be the second game of the evening session, the final game of the day. IU’s game will tip off on Big Ten Network 25 minutes after No. 2 seed Northwestern’s matchup against either Illinois or Penn State, which starts at 6:30pm. Nebraska plays Minnesota in the first round on Wednesday night, with the winner taking on Maryland on Thursday. That game involving the Terrapins will determine IU’s opponent.

Indiana dropped four spots to No. 19 in Monday’s Associated Press top-25 poll. Indiana has appeared in 15 of the 18 AP top-25 polls this season, peaking at No. 10 on Nov. 28. The Hoosiers are ranked for a sixth consecutive week after dropping out for three weeks following losses to Iowa, Northwestern and Penn State in early January. Houston remained the No. 1 team in this week’s AP poll after wins over Wichita State and Memphis to finish with a 17-1 record in the American Athletic Conference. Jamal Shead’s buzzer beater gave Houston a 67-65 win at Memphis on Sunday. Alabama lost its second SEC game of the season on Saturday against Texas A&M, dropping the Crimson Tide to No. 4. Around the Big Ten, Purdue bounced back from its home loss against Indiana with a pair of wins at Wisconsin and at home against Illinois. The Boilermakers won their 25th Big Ten title this season with a 15-5 conference record and stayed at No. 5 in the AP poll. Purdue and Indiana are the only Big Ten teams in this week’s poll, with Maryland dropping out of the top 25 after road losses to Ohio State and Penn State. Northwestern, Michigan State, Iowa and Maryland received votes; but remained outside the rankings.

Indiana University Women’s Basketball falls one spot to #3 in this week’s AP Poll   In Week 18, Indiana women’s basketball dropped to No. 3 in the Associated Press Top 25 Poll after falling short of the Big Ten Women’s Basketball Tournament title due to Ohio State’s victory in the semifinals. The Iowa Hawkeyes then defeated Ohio State 105-72 to win its third tournament title in five years as it moved up five spots to No. 2 in the poll despite having six losses. Maryland moved down just one slot to No. 6 after getting beat by Iowa in the semifinals.  Before its Iowa loss, Ohio State brought back some life as the Buckeyes first took down Michigan in the quarterfinals 81-79 and then overcame a 24-point deficit to defeat top-seed Indiana 79-75 in the semifinals for a No. 12 ranking this week. The Wolverines round out the conference at No. 18. The NCAA Tournament is just around the corner as Selection Sunday will air on ESPN at 8pm. Indiana should still be a one-seed and around second overall, which means the Hoosiers will host the first and second rounds of the tournament.
