Indiana University Alumni Men’s Soccer Team to enter $1 million dollar winner take all tournament
The Soccer Tournament, the $1 million, winner-take-all, 7v7 world championship, today announced the entry of Hoosier Army, an Indiana University men’s soccer alumni team, in their 32-team field. The team will compete at WakeMed Soccer Park in Cary, NC from June 1-4. Tickets are now on sale to members of TST’s waitlist, and TST will unveil its group stage draw on May 4. With their entry into TST’s field, Hoosier Army becomes the first alumni team from an NCAA Division I program to enter a team into TST’s inaugural event.

Hoosier Army is the 14th publicly announced team in TST’s field, joining Welsh club Wrexham AFC owned by Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, English Premier League club Wolverhampton Wanderers F.C., MLS club Charlotte FC, former U.S. Men’s National Team star Clint Dempsey’s Team Dempsey, British football and esports club Hashtag United, historic Liga MX side Club Necaxa, and US Women, a group of former United States Women’s National Team players organized by Heather O’Reilly, among others.  Largely considered the most successful collegiate soccer program in the history of the sport, Indiana men’s soccer has won 8 NCAA Championships as well as 28 total Big Ten titles, combining tournament and regular season championships. The program also has a track record for producing high-quality players, with 150-plus alumni going on to play professionally. Indiana has also produced 19 United States Men’s National Team players, six Olympians, and six World Cup team members.

Commitments for Hoosier Army include Kevin Noschang (2004-08), Kevin Alston (2006-08), Luis Soffner (2008-12), Nikita Kotlov (2010-13), Matt McKain (2010-13), Harrison Petts (2010-13), Patrick Doody (2011-14), Kyle Sparks (2011-15), Christian Lomeli (2015-16), Francesco Moore (2014-18), Cory Thomas (2014-18), Jeremiah Gutjahr (2015-18), Austin Panchot (2015-18) and Josh Gatt (former IU commit). Indiana men’s soccer associate head coach Kevin Robson will serve as the head coach for Hoosier Army, and Tom Morris will be an assistant coach.

If Hoosier Army were to win TST’s $1M prize, the team plans to donate part of the winnings to Hoosiers for Good, a non-profit that partners charitable organizations with student athletes who use their influence and leadership to help Indiana communities thrive. Featuring an unprecedented, million-dollar, winner-take-all prize, TST has become the defining world championship for 7v7 soccer, attracting the most competitive soccer players in the world to an annual, highly intense format that follows the World Cup structure, pinning 32 teams against each other in group play before moving into the knockout stages. All but one slot in the tournament is filled. Indiana University Field Hockey adds two more players for 2023 season
Indiana Field Hockey coach Kayla Bashore has announced the addition of Transfer Sarah Charley along with the signing of Kate Longo to the team for the 2023 season. Charley is a transfer from Ohio State, where she played four years for the Buckeyes. She is also an Ohio native, originally from Worthington and attended Thomas Worthington High School. Longo is the seventh signee of the team’s 2023 recruiting class. She and the rest of her class will arrive in Bloomington this fall. Longo is a native of Charlotte, N.C., but attends high school and plays field hockey at The Hill School in Pennsylvania. She also plays for the club team, the WC Eagles.

Charley will use her final year of eligibility this upcoming season. Charley was a standout forward in her four years at Ohio State and was an integral part to the team’s success. As a forward, Charley was always a key part of Ohio State’s offensive attack, notching 25 goals and eight assists in Columbus. In her senior season, she led the team in goals scored with 12 and had two assists to go along with them. In three of Charley’s four seasons at Ohio State, the team reached the Big Ten Tournament, including a run to the Big Ten Tournament title game in the spring of 2021 where it lost to Michigan. In high school, Charley was named the Ohio Player of the Year twice and was a three-time member of the All-Ohio team. She was named an All-American twice, as well. She helped Thomas Worthington win four district and division championships and three state championships while leading the team in scoring every year, recording 109 career goals.

Longo is a forward and brings an impressive resume to college hockey. The incoming freshman was named first team all-state in her junior and senior seasons, as well as being named to the first team all-conference from 2019-2022. She helped lead The Hill School to their first PAISSA State Championship in program history in 2022, as well. On the club scene, she helped the WC Eagles to a second-place finish at the U19 National Indoor Tournament in 2023. Her club earned third place at the 2022 Nexus Championship, too.

Former Indiana University Men’s Basketball player Logan Duncomb transferring to Xavier University
After two seasons at Indiana, Logan Duncomb announced this week that he’s transferring to Xavier. Duncomb attended Archbishop Moeller High School in Cincinnati, Ohio, and now he’ll play for coach Sean Miller in his home state. A 6-foot-10 center, Duncomb joins a Xavier roster that will be without starting forward Jack Nunge, who averaged 14.2 points and 7.8 rebounds in 2022-23.

Duncomb was a four-star recruit, ranked No. 73 overall in the class of 2021 and chose Indiana over offers from Wisconsin, Cincinnati, Iowa, Miami (OH), Ohio State, Stanford, Virginia Tech, Winthrop and Xavier. Despite being recruited by former Indiana coach Archie Miller, Duncomb played both seasons in Bloomington under Mike Woodson. Duncomb was behind veteran forwards Trayce Jackson-Davis and Race Thompson, and injuries limited him to 18 total games across two seasons. He averaged 2.9 points and 1.7 rebounds as a sophomore after scoring 0.7 points and 0.7 rebounds during his freshman season. The highlight of Duncomb’s Indiana career came against Elon on Dec. 20 when he scored 10 points and grabbed five rebounds.

Indianapolis Indians announce partnership with The American Legion & Hotel Tango
The Indianapolis Indians and Indianapolis Indians Charities today announced a partnership with The American Legion and Hotel Tango. The partnership includes a monthlong awareness campaign for The American Legion’s Be the One initiative, which kicks off during the Indians’ home game on Saturday, April 29 and continues through the team’s Memorial Day Celebration on Monday, May 29, when specialty camouflage jerseys will be auctioned off to benefit The American Legion and Be the One. It also includes a second edition of Bourbon at the Ballpark presented by Hotel Tango from 5:30-8pm on Thursday, May 11, to support the cause.

The No. 1 issue facing the veteran community is suicide, according to the National Veteran Suicide Prevention Annual Report. It is estimated that between 17 and 22 veterans or servicemembers take their lives each day, and more than 6,000 annually. The American Legion’s mission to reduce the rate of veteran suicide is activated through its Be the One initiative, which destigmatizes asking for mental health support and provides peer-to-peer support to veterans and servicemembers in local communities to identify issues and find support.

Bourbon at the Ballpark will take place in the Elements Financial Club at Victory Field and will feature guest speakers from Chip Ganassi Racing including owner Chip Ganassi, defending Indianapolis 500 champion Marcus Ericsson and 2021 INDYCAR Series Champion and American Legion driver Alex Palou. Guests may purchase a bourbon ticket for $200 (limited to the first 150 guests), which includes a bottle of Hotel Tango Single Barrel Pick, two drink tickets and hors d’oeuvres. Guests may also purchase a regular ticket for $150, which includes two drink tickets and hors d’oeuvres. Bourbon samplings from Hotel Tango will be available to all guests along with a raffle for the chance to win allocated bourbon bottles. Guests must be at least 21 years of age to attend.
