
Local graduate gains experience at the Statehouse

Brown County High School graduate Magdalen Ann Crimmins is gaining experience as an intern with State Representative Dave Hall (R-Norman) and his fellow members of the Indiana House of Representatives during the 2023 legislative session. Crimmins is the daughter of Chad and Christina Crimmins. She is currently a senior at Indiana University, and majoring in criminal justice, and minoring in political science and comparative literature. As a legislative intern, Crimmins corresponds with constituents through phone calls, letters and emails while also staffing committee hearings and floor proceedings.
Each year, the House of Representatives offers paid internship opportunities to college students, law-school students, graduate students and recent college graduates for the duration of each legislative session. City of Bloomington Parks and Rec Update
- Water service has been restored to almost all city park drinking fountains and restrooms after the regular winter shut-off. The restroom at the Lower Cascades playground is currently unavailable until a water line break is repaired, but the restrooms nearby at the Sycamore Shelter are available. Park restrooms are typically open mid-morning and closed between 7 and 10 p.m. The restrooms at the Community Foundation Switchyard Plaza Spray Pad in Switchyard Park are currently open daily from 10 a.m.-6 p.m.
- The new soccer field created on the former site of baseball field #5 at Winslow Sports Complex remains closed while the turf grass becomes established. The temporary fencing will be removed, and the field will open when it is ready to absorb significant use by the community’s soccer players.
Sarah Crespo recognized for intellectual achievement, leadership, community and campus engagement at Ivy Tech Bloomington
Ivy Tech Community College Bloomington student, Sarah Crespo, is one of 20 college students named to the prestigious All-USA Academic Team and will receive a $5,000 scholarship. More than 2,400 students nationwide were nominated for the award. Crespo was recognized during the American Association of Community Colleges (AACC) Convention held April 1-4 in Denver, Co. In addition to the scholarship funds, Crespo was presented with a commemorative medallion. After graduation in May, she will transfer to Indiana State University to study for her bachelor’s in human resource development with future plans to pursue a career in human resources.
The All-USA Academic Team is sponsored by Cengage, with additional support provided by Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society and AACC. The All-USA program is widely recognized as the most prestigious academic honor for students attending associate degree-granting institutions. 2007 – Kurt Vonnegut died at his home on April 11th, in New York. Born and raised in Indianapolis, he attended Shortridge High School. His experiences in World War II helped launch a career that included novels, short stories, plays and works of non-fiction. His best-selling books include Slaughterhouse-Five, Breakfast of Champions, and Slapstick.
