Indiana State Police respond to mass school threats
Early this morning, the Indiana State Police was made aware of an email message sent to several dozen Indiana schools threatening the use of explosive devices that had allegedly been planted on various school campuses. We immediately allocated all intelligence resources to investigate the validity of the threat, to include communication with the Department of Education, our local, county, and federal law enforcement partners. At this time no suspicious or explosive devices have been found in any of our schools. The investigation into the origin of this threat is ongoing.

Out of an abundance of caution, troopers throughout the state have been in communication with their local schools to offer assistance and resources. School corporations are working with their local law enforcement to make the best decision about their operations today.

Indiana State Police Superintendent Doug Carter said, “The safety of our children will always be a top priority, the Indiana State Police will continue to offer any and all resources we have to schools to ensure safety for our students.”

Bloomington Police investigate shooting
On April 13, 2023, at approximately 10:20pm, officers with the Bloomington Police Department responded to the 1200 block of N Maple Street in reference to multiple 911 callers reporting several gunshots in the area. While officers were en route to the area, the Central Emergency Dispatch Center received another 911 call from a business in the 700 block of W 17th Street reporting that a woman had entered their business saying she had been shot. Upon the arrival of officers, a 45 year-old woman with multiple gunshot wounds was located in the parking lot of the business. Officers began providing immediate medical care and an ambulance arrived shortly thereafter. The victim was transported to a local hospital by ambulance where investigators were later able to interview her.

The vehicle the victim had arrived at the business in was also located in the parking lot and had multiple bullet holes in it. Investigators determined that the shooting had occurred in the 1200 block of N Maple Street. Officers located several spent casings in the street where the shooting occurred. The woman reported that she was attempting to back out of a driveway on N Maple Street when she observed a vehicle stop behind hers. She said that an unknown person wearing a face-covering exited the vehicle and began shooting at her vehicle before speeding off in an unknown direction. The victim then drove herself to the nearby business on 17th Street and asked the clerk to call for help.

The investigation remains ongoing and anyone with any information or possible surveillance video from the area of the shooting is asked to call Detective Jeff Rodgers at (812)339-4477. No further information is available to be released at this time.
