
Ivy Tech Community College and Lilly advance equitable, workforce-aligned education pathways through Lilly Scholars Program
Ivy Tech Community College and Eli Lilly and Company (NYSE: LLY) today announced the launch of Lilly Scholars @ Ivy Tech, a scholarship program primarily supporting first generation students and students who have overcome socioeconomic barriers who are pursuing credentials in quality, pharmaceutical manufacturing, or related industries.
The program aims to provide approximately 1,000 eligible Ivy Tech students, or Lilly Scholars, with financial assistance and experiential learning opportunities that include summer programs and/or work study programs. The program will also support Lilly Scholars with customized education and training at the Lilly Smart Manufacturing Lab, a world-class facility which will be built to support Ivy Tech Indianapolis with manufacturing certification and 2-year manufacturing degree options. The quality and pharmaceutical manufacturing industries contribute significantly to Indiana’s economy, providing high-paying jobs and driving innovation in areas such as biopharmaceuticals, vaccines, and medical devices.

Lifelong Arts for Aging Services Providers
According to the Creativity and Aging Study, creative arts experiences for people over 65 have been shown to have significant health and well-being benefits. In order to support the health and wellbeing of older Hoosiers, the Indiana Arts Commission and Family and Social Services Administration are hosting four free lifelong arts training opportunities across the state. Aging Service Providers can sign up for one of four free, in-person workshops. The training sessions are as follows:
- April 28, 2023: Fort Wayne
- June 23, 2023: Bloomington
- Sept. 19, 2023: Evansville
- Nov. 14, 2023: Gary
Aging services provider training participants will be eligible to apply for Lifelong Arts Early Action Grants, which fund a sequential arts-learning experience for a group of older adults in their community. Grants will be for up to $5,000 and must be led by a qualified artist.

Victory Field Classic
Friday, May 12 Tickets are now available to enjoy a high school doubleheader at Victory Field! The Victory Field Classic is an annual tradition featuring four Indiana high school baseball teams, and the 14th edition is slated for Friday, May 12. Game 1 between Guerin Catholic (Away) and Heritage Christian (Home) starts at 5:30 PM and will be followed by Franklin Community (Away) against Zionsville (Home) at approximately 8 PM. Gates open at 4:30 PM.

Indiana State Police Seeking Recruits for the 84th Recruit Academy
The Indiana State Police is accepting applications for the 84th Recruit Academy. Individuals interested in beginning a rewarding career as an Indiana State Trooper must apply online at IndianaTrooper.com. This website provides a detailed synopsis of the application process and information on additional career opportunities with the Indiana State Police. Applications must be submitted electronically by 11:59 pm (EST) on Thursday, April 27, 2023.
Probationary Troopers graduating from the 84th Recruit Academy, who successfully complete their Field Training Officer (FTO) program, receive a $5,000.00 one-time cash bonus (taxable) in addition to their regular salary. The Trooper Trainee’s salary is $1,807.70 bi-weekly, plus approximately 200 hours of Paid Time Off and $3,800 of Paid Overtime during the academy. Upon graduation from Trooper Trainee to Probationary Trooper, salary increases to $51,000.
Recruits of the 84th Recruit Academy are offered an excellent health care plan, including medical, dental, vision, and pharmacy coverage for current and retired employees, along with their families, until reaching age 65. The Indiana State Police pension program provides a lifetime pension after 25 years of service. Additionally, the Indiana State Police Department provides comprehensive disability coverage and a life insurance program. This Week in Hoosier History

1893, – Mrs. Edna Ruth Scott Parker was born in Morgan County, Indiana. Edna, a former Indiana school teacher, was an American supercentenarian (a person who has reached the age of 110 years). She was recognized for 15 months as being the oldest person in the world. In case you were wondering, she was raised eating a typical Hoosier farm diet of meat and starch. Edna passed away in Shelbyville, Indiana, on November 26, 2008 at the age of 115.
