
Bodies of two missing men recovered at Monroe Lake
The bodies of Siddhant Shah, 19, and Aryan Vaidya, 20, have been recovered from Monroe Lake. The bodies were found at 11:23am on Tuesday morning, after going missing on Saturday afternoon., Indiana Conservation Officers located and recovered the bodies of the victims in 18 feet of water in an area east of the Paynetown Marina.
Crews used side scan sonar and scuba divers all day Sunday and Monday to search the area where the men had been last seen in the water. High winds and rough water created obstacles for officers conducting the search. om Sunday.
Shah and Vaidya were boating on a pontoon with friends on Monroe Lake Saturday afternoon when the group anchored to swim. When both men did not resurface, friends tried to help but were unsuccessful. Rescue units utilizing side scan sonar and scuba divers searched the area before suspending search operations for the night due to darkness.
Units assisting in the search include the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, Bloomington Police Department, IU Police Department, Monroe County Dive Team, IU Dean of Students Office, Monroe Fire Protection District, and IU Health EMS.
Bloomington Community Survey now open to all residents
Beginning this week, the 2023 Bloomington Community Survey became open to all residents interested in participating. The survey may be accessed at https://polco.us/Bloomington2023.
Beginning March 20, a random and scientific sample of 3,000 households were mailed invitations to participate in the survey. A second wave was mailed on March 27. Participants’ responses are confidential and will be weighted, analyzed, and published on the city’s open data portal B-Clear. Residents not selected randomly may now participate in the survey by completing it online using the link above. The results of residents who opt-in will be collected, analyzed, and published in a separate data set. Data collection for both the random sample survey and open participation survey closes May 1. A formal presentation of the results will be presented to the City Council in late May.
The survey asks residents for their perceptions about the quality and value of City services and current conditions in the community. This year’s responses will be compared with the previous three survey results as well as with a set of peer cities. As previously, the survey also asks a few new questions soliciting residents’ opinions on new or current City issues. Data gathered will help inform decision-making and identify shifts in public perceptions of City services and conditions.

1931 – Lee Herbert Hamilton was born on April 20th. Lee Hamilton represented the 9th congressional district of Indiana from 1965-1999. After leaving office, he served on many governmental boards including vice chairman of the 9/11 Commission and Cochairman of the Indiana Bicentennial Commission. Lee also received the Presidential Medal of Freedom.
