
Domestic violence law advanced to Governor’s desk
Indiana Governor Eric Holcomb has until April 25th to make a decision on 79 bills recently passed by the state legislature. Among those is Senate Bill 168, relating to Domestic Violence.
The Bill provides that a person arrested for certain crimes committed against a family or household member may not be released on bail for 24 hours. Provides that a charge of invasion of privacy is elevated to a Level 6 felony if the person has a prior unrelated criminal stalking conviction. Provides that certain crimes are considered a serious violent felony for the purposes of unlawful possession of a firearm by a serious violent felon.
Current law in Indiana allows those people to post bail after 8 hours.
Cook Executives share messages of community and action to help celebrate Ivy Tech’s Cook Center for Entrepreneurship
Ivy Tech Community College welcomed Stephen L. Ferguson, Chairman of the Board of Cook Group and President of French Lick Resort, and Pete Yonkman, President of Cook Group and Cook Medical, as the Keynote Speakers for their 12th Annual Cook Institute for Entrepreneurship luncheon on Wednesday afternoon. The Cook Institute, first launched in 2010, serves as a fundraising event for Ivy Tech student scholarships. The event aims to bring the local business community together to share and learn while celebrating the accomplishments of Ivy Tech Cook Center for Entrepreneurship.
Bloomington announces upgrade of open data portal
The City of Bloomington iannounced the update of its “B-Clear” data portal. The new data portal provides users with an improved ability to view data, analyze data sets, and create visualizations of City data using visualization tools within the portal or with external data analysis and visualization software. Currently, the City’s Open Finance portal, Covid Dashboard, and Climate Action Plan Dashboard are hosted on the new unified data portal. Beyond City-created dashboards, self-serve visualizations can now be created by residents and then shared with others.
In addition to the updated portal platform, new data sets are now available, including City Geographic Information System (GIS) data that is available on the portal as both static maps suitable for viewing, downloading, and printing and as GIS files (in CSV, KML and Shapefile format) that can be used in GIS software such as Google Earth, ArcGIS, and QGIS.

This Week in Hoosier History

1988 – Indiana University held it’s first women’s Little 500 bicycle race. Members of the Willkie Sprint team, Kirsten Swanson, Amy Tucker, Kerry Hellmuth and Louise Elder won the race. It was held in front of a crowd of more than 15,000 at the Bill Armstrong Stadium in Bloomington.
