City of Bloomington infrastructure updates

  • The parking lot on the south end of Miller-Showers Park off 17th Street is now open for use. The lot has been closed to accommodate work on the 17th Street Multiuse Path. 
  • Construction continues on a multiuse path that is being constructed along the north side of 17th Street, and accessible sidewalk curb ramps are being installed. This week the parking lot for Miller Showers Park was reopened. The street will be resurfaced, and the existing traffic signal at the intersection of 17th Street at Madison Street/Kinser Pike will be replaced. Construction began in April and is anticipated to be completed by the end of the year. Currently, traffic lanes on 17th Street are shifted in preparation for a 45-day closure of the intersection of 17th Street and Madison Street/Kinser Pike that will begin after Memorial Day weekend.   • The 2023 paving season officially began the week of April 24th. Crews will continue in Hoosier Acres on S Ravencrest Ave from E Brighton Ave to E Brownridge Rd and S Fieldcrest Ave from E Brighton Ave to E Brownridge Rd. The Department of Public Works Street Division will prep streets prior to resurfacing and will have restrictions during work hours (7 a.m. to 4 p.m.). Signage will be posted. Opening of Bloomington water attractions

Bryan Park Pool – 1020 S Woodlawn Ave.

  • Opens for the 2023 swimming season Saturday, May 27, from 11 a.m.-7 p.m.
  • Bryan Park Pool is open daily through Aug. 1 from 11 a.m.-7 p.m.
  • Admission is $6 per person. Children age 3 yrs and younger are admitted free.

Griffy Lake Nature Preserve – 3400 N Headley Rd

  • Boathouse is open daily from 8 a.m.-8 p.m. beginning May 1. Canoes, kayaks, and stand-up paddleboards are available for rent for $9 an hour. Reservations are recommended; to reserve a watercraft, call the Griffy Lake boathouse at 812-349-3732 or email griffy.boathouse@bloomington.in.gov.

Mills Pool – 1100 W 14th St.

  • Opens for the 2023 swimming season Saturday, May 27, from 11 a.m.-7 p.m.
  • Mills Pool is open daily through July 30 from 11 a.m.-7 p.m.
  • Admission is $6 per person. Children age 3 yrs, and younger are admitted free.

Community Foundation Switchyard Plaza Spray Pad at Switchyard Park – 1601 S. Rogers St

  • Opens for the 2023 season Saturday, May 27, from 10 a.m.-8 p.m.
  • The spray pad is open daily through Sept. 4, 10 a.m.-8 p.m.

Monroe County Road Closings

  • MT ZION ROAD, between Harmony Road & Burch Road:  Mt. Zion Road will be closed in this area on Monday, May 1, 2023 – Tuesday, May 2, 2023, from 7 am – 3 pm for Monroe County CB Crews to replace a culvert.
  • MT ZION ROAD, between Burch Road & Crum Road:  Mt. Zion Road will be closed in this area on Tuesday, May 2, 2023 – Wednesday, May 3, 2023, from 7 am – 3 pm for Monroe County CB Crews to replace a culvert.
  • MT ZION ROAD, between Crum Road & Rockeast Road:  Mt Zion Road will be closed in this area on Wednesday, May 3, 2023 – Friday, May 5, 2023, from 7 am – 3 pm for Monroe County CB Crews to replace a culvert.
  • OLD SR 37 NORTH, between Bethel Lane & Old Meyers Road:  Old SR 37 North will be closed in this area from Monday, April 3, 2023 – December 15, 2023, for the Bicentennial Pathways Project. School bus routes and EMS access will be coordinated and maintained.  Detour: Sample Road/I-69/Business 37 North or Old Meyers Road/Boltinghouse Road/Bethel Lane.

Indiana Department of Revenue payment plans via INTIME
DOR offers several payment plan options for both individuals and businesses. Customers who owe state taxes can now easily and efficiently set up a payment plan and/or pay on it using INTIME. This Week in Hoosier History

Lincoln Funeral Train

1865 – The Abraham Lincoln funeral train arrived in Indianapolis. Over 50,000 people passed by the open coffin in the rotunda of the old Statehouse. Governor Oliver P. Morton and other Indiana officials had boarded the train as it entered the state at Richmond.
