The Indiana men’s golf team has earned a bid to the 2023 NCAA Auburn Regional played at the Auburn University Club, the NCAA announced on Wednesday via a selection show on The Golf Channel. After making the 2021 NCAA Tallahassee Regional and the 2022 NCAA Palm Beach Gardens Regional, Indiana has made three-straight regional appearances as a team for the first time since making six-consecutive NCAA events from 2008-13. This is a strong field, so we are going to have to play great golf if we want to reach our goal of qualifying for the NCAA Championship.”

The 2023 NCAA Regionals will be held May 15-17 at one of six sites across the country: Auburn University Club (Auburn, Ala.), The Cliffs at Keowee Falls (Salem, S.C.), Eagle Eye Golf Club (East Lansing, Mich.), Bear’s Best Las Vegas (Las Vegas, Nev.), Jimmie Austin OU Golf Club (Norman, Okla.), and The Institute Golf Club (Morgan Hill, Calif.). Indiana junior Drew Salyers was named All-Big Ten First Team, while fifth-year senior Mitch Davis was voted to the All-Big Ten Second Team, the league announced on Wednesday morning. Salyers is the first Hoosier men’s golfer to earn First Team recognition sinceClay Merchent in 2021. Salyers averaged a career-low 71.59 strokes per round to lead Indiana while playing in all 32 rounds throughout the season. He was a mainstay at the top of the leaderboards and earned nine-straight top-20 finishes to open the season. Five times he finished inside the top-10 with victories at the Quail Valley Collegiate Invitational (Oct. 16-17) and the Williams Cup (Oct. 21-23). His weekend at Quail Valley proved to be historic as he matched the 36-hole school record (130) and became the second Hoosier ever to record a sub-200 (199) scorecard during a 54-hole tournament. He was named the Big Ten Men’s Golder of the Week on Oct. 19.

Davis played in all 32 rounds for the Hoosiers across 11 tournaments. He posted a season stroke average of 72.44, the lowest figure of his career. He finished inside the top-20 of seven tournaments, including the top-10 outings. Davis produced 12 rounds at or under par this season, the second-highest amount of any Hoosier. Fifth-year senior Thomas Hursey was named Indiana’s recipient of the 2023 Big Ten Sportsmanship Honoree. The Ferris State transfer has played in 23 rounds with a stroke average of 74.00 in his debut season with the Cream and Crimson. Indiana University Men’s Basketball adds Ian Stephens as a walk on
Indiana has added in-state forward Ian Stephens as a walk-on in the program as he announced his commitment Wednesday Morning via Twitter. The 6-foot-6 Stephens averaged 15.2 points, and 7.9 rebounds while leading New Palestine H.S. (New Palestine, Ind.) to a school best 23 wins during his 2022-23 senior season.  He was named Associated Press Honorable Mention All-State, All-Hoosier Heritage Conference and All-Hancock County First Team.

Stephens is a good athlete and was very good player at New Palestine.  When it comes to walk-ons, he looks to be in the mold of recently departed forward Nathan Childress, as perhaps the first walk-on off the bench and someone who could play in an emergency. Stephens played for the JH1 AAU program that is connected to IU recruiting director Jordan Hulls.  He had college offers including Indiana Tech and IU South Bend.
