Indiana University Women’s Basketball Assistant Coach Glenn Box named Head Coach at Miami Ohio
Monday afternoon, the Indiana women’s basketball program announced associate head coach Glenn Box has been named the Miami (OH) women’s basketball head coach after seven seasons with the Hoosiers. After several coaching stints at the junior college and Division I collegiate levels, Box landed an assistant coaching position at Saint Louis University in his second stint with the Billikens where he spent two seasons before joining the Hoosiers’ staff in the 2016-17 season.
As a Hoosier, Box helped lead the team to seven seasons of winning 20 plus games. This included seven postseason berths as five were NCAA Tournament appearances. In those big dances, Indiana advanced to the second round each time, the Sweet 16 twice (2021, 2022) and the Elite Eight once in the 2020-21 season. Box’s direction along with that of head coach Teri Moren led 11 Hoosier guards to earn a grand total of 16 All-Big Ten honors including four consecutive first team awards for former point guard Grace Berger, who was the program’s first WNBA first round draft pick in program history this past April. Just last season, Box coached the Hoosiers to its first Big Ten regular season title in 40 years and their first NCAA Tournament one-seed in program history. The Hoosiers set a new all-time win record with 28 victories and tied for the most conference wins at 16.
Box will head to Oxford, Ohio, which is 135 miles away from Bloomington, to build up the RedHawks program that hasn’t seen a winning season since the 2018-19 campaign. Box’s experience with NCAA Tournament appearances should fare well for a team that’s only played in the tournament once back in 2008 where it lost to Louisville in the first round. Many Hoosiers including Berger credited Box for their improvement on the court throughout last season, especially on the defensive side of the ball. The seven-year coaching vet will be missed as a replacement has not yet been announced.

Indianapolis Indians Pitcher Caleb Smith named International League Pitcher of the Week
Minor League Baseball and the Indianapolis Indians announced Monday that left-handed pitcher Caleb Smith has been named the International League Pitcher of the Week after tossing a 7.0-inning complete-game shutout in Game 2 of Wednesday’s doubleheader at Toledo. Smith, 31, pitched the first complete-game shutout in all of minor league baseball this season. The southpaw was one of two pitchers in all of professional baseball to throw a complete-game shutout this week, alongside Double-A Portland’s Chih-Jung Liu.
In his brilliant outing on Wednesday afternoon, he allowed only three baserunners on three hits, striking out five Mud Hens. He became the first Indians pitcher to toss a complete-game shutout since right-hander James Marvel on July 5, 2019 (2) vs. Toledo. It was also Smith’s second career complete-game shutout, following a rain-shortened one-hitter over 7.0 innings on June 18, 2017, with Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre at Buffalo. Smith was signed by Pittsburgh as a minor league free agent on Feb. 12, 2023. He was originally selected by New York (AL) in the 14th round (434th overall) of the 2013 First-Year Player Draft out of Sam Houston State (Huntsville, Texas) University. He is Indianapolis’ third recipient of an IL weekly honor this season following Tucupita Marcano (April 4-9) and Josh Palacios (April 25-30), who both earned IL Player of the Week.
