
Indiana University Men’s Basketball to play Harvard at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis
For the 40th straight season and 113th time overall, IU Men’s Basketball will play in Indianapolis when it takes on Harvard on Sunday, Nov. 26, at Gainbridge Fieldhouse. “Playing a game in Indianapolis is very important to our program,” said IU Coach Mike Woodson a native of the Circle City who graduated from Broad Ripple High School in 1976. “IU Basketball has a long-standing tradition of playing whenever it can in Indianapolis and giving fans who may not otherwise get to see us in person an opportunity to experience a Hoosier game for themselves.” This will be the second meeting all-time against the Crimson with IU winning 97-76 on Dec. 2, 1972, in Bloomington.
Current IU Men’s Basketball season ticket holders can purchase their seats for the Harvard contest when they renew their season tickets for the 2023-24 season. Non-season ticket holders can purchase tickets to the game here. The priority deadline is July 28, at which point all seats will be allocated based on the IU Athletics Priority Point Policy. Woodson is in his third year with the Hoosiers and has led IU to back-to-back NCAA Tournament appearances and a final top 25 national ranking at the end of the 2022-23 season. The Cream and Crimson have played every season in Indianapolis since 1984 and have an 85-27 record overall since 1940. Last year, IU defeated Miami of Ohio, 85-56, in the 2022 Hoosier Classic.
Indiana University Football adds Southern University Transfer Trey Laing
The Indiana Hoosiers added more defensive depth from the transfer portal in Trey Laing, a linebacker transfer from Southern University. Laing has two years of eligibility left and originally played for East Mississippi Community College and South Florida coming out of high school as a three-star recruit. Laing then went to Southern for the 2022 season. Laing was productive for the Southern Jaguars as he played in 12 and making 38 total tackles including 14 for a loss and five sacks. In the only game against Power Five competition (LSU), he made two tackles including one for a loss. Listed at 6’4” and 225 pounds, Laing projects as a Bull for IU.
Indiana University Women’s Golf adds Ole Miss Transfer Maddie May
Indiana Women’s Golf head coach Brian May announced the addition of transfer Maddie May to the Hoosiers on Tuesday. May joins Indiana after two seasons with Ole Miss. She played in three tournaments during her freshman season in 2021-22 and recorded a 78.57 stroke average. May played in the Lady Bulldog Invitational, Auburn Tiger Invitational and Gators Invitational. She earned her career-best finish at the Auburn Tiger Invitational when she shot a career-best round of 70 (-2) during round two of the tournament to tie for 11th place on the leaderboard.
Prior to Ole Miss, May was a standout at her high school of Saint Andrews College in New Zealand. She was the captain of the team for three years and led them to two Regional Championships in 2019 and 2020. She was a member of the Canterbury Golf Development Squad from 2017-2021 while also playing on the New Zealand Golf Junior Training Squad since 2019, where she served as the captain for three years. May also won the 2019 Canterbury Golf Order of Merit Women’s Championship along with becoming the Canterbury Secondary Schools mixed champion in 2019. She earned a pair for third place finishes at the 2019 and 2020 New Zealand U19 Championships. May is majoring in accountancy. She is the daughter of Paula Holt and Tim May and has two brothers, Zach and Sebastian.
Indiana University Football adds Merrillville Indiana native and JUCO Transfer Jojo Johnson
The Indiana Hoosiers continue their roster rebuild as they received a commitment from junior college defensive back JoJo Johnson. The Iowa Western C.C. cornerback was originally a three-star prospect who signed with Notre Dame out of Merrillville High School in Northwest Indiana. Johnson played in nine games for Iowa Western and totaled 16 tackles and three interceptions. He also returned one kickoff for 21 yards. Johnson is listed at 5’11” and 190 pounds. The Hoosiers have turned over nearly their entire cornerback’s room from last year and Johnson should be in play to crack the two-deep in fall camp. Johnson was a redshirt sophomore last season.
Indiana Pacers and The City of Noblesville announce an new NBA G League Team
The Fort Wayne Mad Ants will soon be no more as the City of Noblesville and Pacers Sports & Entertainment announced plans to move the NBA G League team to a new home in Noblesville where the team will rebrand before the start of the 2024-2025 season. In order to accommodate the move, the City of Noblesville announced plans to build a new 3,400 seat, 85,000-square-foot arena near Finch Creek Park on the city’s east side with construction scheduled to begin this fall.
Noblesville has pledged $36.5 million to go toward building the new arena with the Pacers contributing $5 million over 10 years to the project. Noblesville stated that the Pacers would also be leading the effort to secure an additional $5 million in naming rights. The new Noblesville arena is anticipated to open during the 2024-2025 season. The Mad Ants will continue to play under their current name for the 2023-2024 season with games being held at Gainbridge Fieldhouse until the new Noblesville arena is completed. Due to the Mad Ants name having a special tie to Fort Wayne honoring “Mad” Anthony Wayne the team will retire the Mad Ants nickname prior to the 2024-2025 season and choose a new mascot. The new mascot will be unveiled at a future date. The Mad Ants have been in Fort Wayne since 2007.
The City of Noblesville expects to draw 65,000 fans annually to G League games but said the arena would be used to further draw in sports visitors along with hosting other events. The 10-year partnership agreement between the City of Noblesville and Pacers Sports & Entertainment was presented at the Noblesville Common Council meeting on Tuesday evening. The Mad Ants move to Noblesville is the second team to relocate to Hamilton County in recent months. The Indy Fuel recently broke ground on a new arena being built in Fishers.
Indiana Fever waive rookie forward LaDazhia Williams
The Indiana Fever announced Tuesday that the team has waived rookie forward LaDazhia Williams. The Fever drafted Williams with the 17th overall pick in the second round in last month’s WNBA Draft. Williams played 4 minutes off the bench in the Fever’s 81-56 loss to the Chicago Sky Sunday Evening in the first of two preseason games. Williams went 2-4 from the free throw line and did not record any other stats. Williams played at LSU and averaged 9.9 points in 28 minutes per game as LSU won the 2023 National Championship over Iowa in Dallas Texas. Williams played 37 minutes, scored 20 points, pulled down 5 rebounds and had 3 steals as the Tigers beat the Hawkeyes 102-85 on April 2. The 6-4 Forward is from Bradenton Florida and played at Lakewood Ranch High School.
Williams played at played her freshman season at South Carolina and then played three seasons at Missouri. Williams started 18 games for Missouri during the 2021-22 season and averaged 12.4 points, 4.2 rebounds and 1.2 blocks per game. Had one of the most efficient seasons in Missouri history as her 58.2 field goal percentage ranked third all-time in program history; had the No. 2 field-goal percentage in the SEC and No. 9 nationally. Williams led Missouri in scoring in seven games and tallied 16 games scoring in double-figures during the 2021-22 season.
