Alleged robbery at Bloomington Walmart
According to Monroe County Sheriff’s Department, on May 9, 2023, at approximately 3:20pm, a customer at Walmart called the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office to report an armed robbery that had just taken place. The 25-year-old female victim stated she was inside of the store shopping when she was approached by a female who allegedly asked for money and displayed a knife. The victim reported the suspect escorted her to the ATM at the front of the store and forced her to withdraw money. Once deputies arrived store employees accessed surveillance footage from the store and were able to obtain images of the suspect. A short time later, Deputies located the suspect in the parking lot area near the fuel center, and she was taken into custody. The suspect was identified as 34-year-old Tarea Hutchins of Bloomington, IN, and she was booked into the Monroe County Correctional Center for Armed Robbery, a Level 3 felony, and Kidnapping While Armed with a Deadly Weapon, a Level 3 felony. No injuries were reported from this incident.

Council representing former IU Football Player, charged with rape, release statement on his behalf
Identifying as Attorneys for Connor Delp, the former Indiana University Football Team Punt Returner recently charged with two counts of rape and separate charges for sexual battery and battery, based on a Police report made in 2022, released a statement on Delp’s behalf:

“Connor Delp has a constitutional right to be presumed innocent of the criminal charges that have been filed against him. There are always two sides to every story. Connor Delp intends to vigorously defend against these charges in the appropriate forum – the courtroom.”

Indiana’s Poetry Out Loud State Champion moves on to the national final
After two years of virtual competitions, the Poetry Out Loud® National Finals are returning to Washington, DC, this Spring, May 9–10, 2023, and will be streamed live at Arts.gov/Poetry-Out-Loud. This annual event brings together high school students from across the country who memorize and recite classic and contemporary poems, competing for the title of national champion and the $20,000 prize. Yesterday, Indiana’s Poetry Out Loud State Champion, Sreepadaarchana Munjuluri, competed in the national semifinals for region one, where she was named a national finalist. Today, she will compete in the final competition.

A program of the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) and the Poetry Foundation along with state and jurisdictional arts agencies, Poetry Out Loud has reached more than 4.3 million students since it began in 2005. This year’s state and jurisdictional champions advanced from more than 158,000 students nationwide.

Dillinger

1933 – After serving a 9 ½ year sentence for robbing a grocery store, John Dillinger was released from the Indiana State Prison in Michigan City. He embarked upon a series of bank robberies and jail breaks until July of 1934, when he was killed by the FBI in Chicago.
