Racing Legend Bobby Unser Passes Away at Age 87

Bobby Unser a three-time winner of the Indianapolis 500 has passed away at age 87 Sunday Night. Unser won the Indianapolis 500 in 1968, 1975 and 1981. Unser along with his brother Al are the only pair of brothers to win the greatest spectacle in racing. Younger Brother Al Unser Sr won in 1970, 1971, 1978 and 1987 and is one of only three men to win the Indianapolis 500 four times. The Unser Family tradition stretched to his Nephew Al Unser Jr won the race in 1992 and 1994. After his driving career Unser moved to broadcasting and won an Emmy Award as part of the ABC Sports broadcast team for “Outstanding Live Sports Special” for its coverage of the 1989 Indianapolis 500.

Baseball State Tournament Draw Announced

Parings for the IHSAA State Baseball Tournament were announced as Sectionals will start May 26th and go through Memorial Day May 31st. In Class 4A at Bloomington North, East Central will face Columbus North in Game 1 followed by Shelbyville and Columbus East in Game 2. The Winners will meet in the first semifinal followed by City Rivals Bloomington North and Bloomington South in the second semifinal with the winners advancing to the championship game. In Class 3A at Owen Valley, West Vigo will face Owen Valley in Game 1 while Edgewood faces Indian Creek in Game 2 with the winners playing the second semifinal. Sullivan and Brown County will play in the second semifinal with the winners advancing to the championship game.

Softball State Tournament Draw Announced

Parings for the IHSAA State Softball Tournament Draw were announced as Sectionals will start May 24th-29th.  In Class 4A at Shelbyville, Bloomington North will face Columbus East while Shelbyville will face Columbus North. The winners will meet in the first semifinal while East Central faces Bloomington South in game 2 and the winners advance to the championship game.  In Class 3A Edgewood, West Vigo takes on Owen Valley in game 1 while Edgewood and Indian Creek faceoff in game 2.  The winners will face off in the first semifinal while Brown County and Northview meet in game 2 with the winners headed to the championship game.

Sectional Assignments Announced for Six IHSAA Sports

Sectional Assignments have been announced for six IHSAA Sports for the 2021-22 school year. The IHSAA does a 2-year cycle of sectional assignments based on enrollment and tournament success factors. The IHSAA decided to freeze enrollments for this year due to the COVID-19 Pandemic. Here are following assignments for Girls and Boys Basketball, Football, Volleyball, Girls Soccer and Boys Soccer.  Girls and Boys Basketball, Class 4A Sectional 14 Bloomington North, Bloomington South, Columbus East Columbus North, East Central and Martinsville and in Class 3A Sectional 26 Brownstown Central Brown County Edgewood Northview Owen Valley South Vermillion and West Vigo. Football, In Class 5A Sectional 15 Bloomington North, Bloomington South, Castle and Evansville North and Class 3A Sectional 30 Brown County, Edgewood, Owen Valley, Pike Central, Princeton, Sullivan, Vincennes Lincoln and Washington. In Volleyball Class 4A Sectional 14 Bloomington North, Bedford North Lawrence, Bloomington South, Columbus East, Columbus North, East Central and Martinsville and in Class 3A Sectional 26 Brown County, Brownstown Central, Edgewood, Northview, Owen Valley, South Vermillion and West Vigo.  In Girls Soccer Class 3A Sectional 14 Bloomington North, Bloomington South, Martinsville, Terre Haute North and Terre Haute South and Class 2A Sectional 29 Brown County, Edgewood, Northview, Owen Valley and West Vigo. Boys Soccer in Class 3A Sectional 14 Bedford North Lawrence, Bloomington North, Bloomington South, Martinsville, Northview, Terre Haute North and Terre Haute South and Class 2A Sectional 29 Brown County, Edgewood, Monrovia, Owen Valley South Vermillion Sullivan and West Vigo.
