ACLU files suit challenging HEA 1608
A lawsuit has been filed by the ACLU, challenging an Indiana law prohibiting teachers from teaching human sexuality between kindergarten and third grade. HEA 1608, is set to take effect July 1. The suit contends that the law will infringe upon constitutional due process and First Amendment rights. The lawsuit that “instruction,” a key word within the new law, could be interpreted to include all interactions with students, even interactions outside of the classroom.

HEA 1608 also requires schools to notify parents or guardians within five days if a minor requests to use a different name or set of pronouns at school.
