2 new candidates seek Indiana’s US Senate seat
Two additional candidates announce plans to run for US Senate to win a seat currently held by Mike Braun, who intends to run for Indiana Governor in 2024. John Rust, Chairman of Rose Acre Farms, a leader in egg production, has filed as a Republican, and Indianapolis City-County Council Member Keith Potts has filed as a Democrat. They will join a host of other candidates which includes Republican US Congressman Jim Banks and Marc Carmichael, a former Indiana State Representative and President of the Indiana Beverage Allianace.

Rust is being challenged over his past voting record in Democrat primaries which could potentially eliminate him from the race based on upon eligibility criteria. He will require permission from the Jackson County Republican Chairperson in order to be placed on the Republican ballot.

Ivy Tech offering Society for Human Resource Management course
Ivy Tech Community College Bloomington is offering a 12-week Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM®) certification preparation class. The course starts Aug. 21 and will be held Mondays from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Students can attend the class via Zoom or in-person at Ivy Tech Bloomington. This is an opportunity to demonstrate qualifications and become a recognized expert in human resources. Students will learn how to apply HR principles to real-life, ethical practices, and employee relations.

A SHRM credential helps increase earning potential, get promoted, and gain readiness. HR professionals who pass the SHRM certification exam report earning salaries 7% to 9% higher than peers who did not. Of SHRM-certified professionals who were promoted, 63% report that their credential was a key factor. To be eligible for the SHRM®-CP and SHRM®-SCP exams, participants must meet specific educational and work experience criteria at the time of application. Consumer Alert: Products recalled in June 

The Indiana Attorney General’s Office is alerting Hoosiers of important consumer protection concerns for products recalled in June. This is the time to take advantage of opportunities available for those who purchased these recalled items. According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission, the following consumer products were recalled in June:  

If you believe you recently purchased a recalled product, stop using it, and check its recall notice. Then, follow the notice’s instructions, including where to return the product or what steps must be taken to receive a replacement product. To view recalls issued prior to June, visit the Consumer Protection Safety Commission website.

1894 – Elwood Haynes demonstrated his newly-invented horseless carriage by taking a six-mile drive on Pumpkinvine Pike in Kokomo. The car reached a speed of six or seven miles per hour.
