Bloomington Police arrest shooting suspect
On July 15, 2023, at approximately 1:25pm, officers with the Bloomington Police Department responded to a Subway restaurant, located in the 1800 block of N Kinser Pike, in reference to a shooting that had just occurred. Callers reported to dispatch that a man had just shot another man and was last seen running southbound from the scene. Officers arrived and located a 51-year-old man with a gunshot wound to his chest outside the restaurant near the dumpsters. The victim was transported to a nearby hospital by ambulance where he underwent multiple emergency surgeries. At the time of this release, the victim is in critical condition.
It was determined that the suspect in the shooting, identified as Sean Rivers (22, Bloomington), was an employee of the restaurant. Witnesses advised investigators that Rivers and the victim had gotten into some sort of verbal argument because of where the victim had parked his vehicle. The victim then reportedly walked out of the restaurant and Rivers was seen exiting the restaurant and walking towards the area where the witnesses last saw the victim. Shortly thereafter, witnesses reported hearing a single gunshot, then observed Rivers come back into the restaurant, where he gathered his belongings and left the store on foot.
Rivers was located at 1:55pm at a residence in the 500 block of W Northlane Drive, where he was taken into custody without incident. Sean Rivers was transported to the Bloomington Police Department for an interview, then later to the Monroe County Jail, where he was remanded for on a charge of Attempted Murder.
