Scott Rolen inducted into Baseball Hall of Fame
Bloomington resident Scott Rolen has been immortalized in Baseball’s Hall of Fame for an amazing career that has its roots in the late 1980’s as an Indiana teenager in Jasper. He would go on the excel in Basketball and Baseball at Jasper High School, becoming Mr. Baseball in 1993. He was drafted in the second round, and in 1996 he became the NL Rookie of the League with the Philadelphia Phillies.
“At no point in my lifetime,” Rolen said, “did it ever occur to me that I would be standing on this stage.”
He would add 7 All-star selections, 8 Golden Glove awards, and a Silver Slugger accomplishment throughout his 17 major league career. His career stats include batting .281, 2077 hits, 316 homeruns, and 1287 RBIs. Rolen played for the Phillies, Cardinals, Blue Jays, and Reds.
Rolen was inducted with former great, Fred McGriff after the two were previously rejected from Cooperstown a combined 15 times.
Dozens show up to protest Mayor Hamilton’s desire to close road access at Lower Cascade Park
Mayor Hamilton seeks to convert a half mile of public road between Old State Road 37 and North College to a trail in order to convert the stretch into bike and pedestrian path
Members of the public showed up on Saturday afternoon to voice their opinions against the plan, stating the City and the Mayor are not listening to the many voices against the plan. Mayor Hamilton’s plan lost the recommendation of local surveys and hired consultant studies, but he pushes forward with the concept, regardless.
Local residents protest based on local access during IU events, emergency service acess, and the historic importance of the area, as the oldest Park in the community.
INDOT expects to reopen Westbound 465 this week
INDOT announced that they expect westbound lanes of I-465 to reopen on Thursday, July 27. The directed closure signage should be removed late Wednesday and early on Thursday, prior to the morning commute on the 27th.
Westbound traffic will be moved back to its temporary configuration of 3 travel lanes with concrete barriers on both shoulders, as crews continue improving bridge deck overlays, road surface, and drainage structures.
