Terre Haute standoff results in suspect death
Terre Haute Police Officers shot and killed a man who pointed a gun at them during a standoff that lasted 2 hours on Tuesday morning. The 911 calls came in around 7am, complaining about a man threatening the workers of a landscaping business with a firearm.

Officers ordered the man to stand down and drop his weapon, but he refused to comply. Following the standoff, the suspect exited the building and pointed his weapon at Police. He again refused to comply, and Officers were forced to fire, administering a fatal gunshot wound.

The suspect was taken to a Terre Haute hospital where he died. The two Terre Haute officers have been placed on administrative leave.


Marion County seeks help locating suspect
Marion County Law Enforcement is looking for Jaquon Campbell, a suspect in a robbery investigation. Officials said that Campbell’s warrant was issued on March 15.

Officials said that Campbell is 5 feet 10 inches tall, weighs around 160 pounds, and has black hair and brown eyes. If anyone has information on where Campbell is, they are asked to contact the Crime Stoppers of Central Indiana at (317) 262-TIPS (8477).

Fundraising event in memory of Trooper Aaron Smith
An event to honor the life of Trooper Aaron Smith is happening this Sunday, July 30, 2023 in Bargersville. The celebration of life will include several opportunities to join others for a workout, followed by ceremony to honor Trooper Smith and his family. The funds raised will directly support Trooper Smith’s wife and family. 

Trooper Smith was passionate about serving his community in several capacities, and he was passionate about working out at the gym with his wife. This event will take place at the gym where Trooper Smith spent time physically preparing for his roles both as an Indiana State Trooper and a member of the Indiana National Guard. 

The community is invited to attend this event, participation in a workout is not required. The celebration of life is expected to begin at approximately 1:45 p.m. Information about workout times can be found in the attached flyer.

Bloomington Holiday Market accepting vendor applications from local, regional artists
The City of Bloomington Parks and Recreation Department invites local and regional artists to submit an application for consideration for vending space at the annual Holiday Market, Nov. 25 at 401 N. Morton St. in Bloomington, next to City Hall.

Artists may apply online at bloomington.in.gov/holidaymarket to request an application. There is a non-refundable, $20 jury fee per application. To receive full consideration, applications must be received by Aug. 25 at 5pm. The 21st annual Holiday Market, with booth spaces inside City Hall and outside at Showers Common, takes place from 10am-3pm. A limited number of artist booth spaces are available indoors. 

Applications are divided into 10 categories: clay; drawing/painting/photography; fiber arts; metalwork/woodwork; glass; jewelry; natural materials; personal care; recycled arts; and, surface decoration. Works will be juried, and artists selected based on the style and quality of work, price of work, and variety of artists. All work for sale at Holiday Market must be original and made by the applicant. Work must be safe, have a decent life expectancy, and exhibit quality of craftsmanship.

Visitors to the Holiday Market in 2023 can shop for seasonal, locally grown farm products, artisan foods and beverages by local small businesses, and unique, locally made art and fine crafts.

Tarkington

1869 – Newton ‘Booth’ Tarkington was born. He was an American novelist and dramatist best known for his novels The Magnificent Ambersons (1918) and Alice Adams (1921). He is one of only four novelists to win the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction more than once, along with William Faulkner, John Updike, and Colson Whitehead. In the 1910s and 1920s he was considered the United States’ greatest living author. Several of his stories were adapted to film.
