The Hoosiers opened the 2022 season with 23-20 win over Illinois on September 2, 2022. In his post-game press-conference after a 23-3 loss to Ohio State Allen said, “I’ll say it till I am blue in the face, until somebody tells me to shut up and I’ll probably say it again: Friday Night is for High School Football”. Curt Mallory feels bad for the kids on his team that have fathers who are High School Football Coaches and will be unbale to attend the game.
This is game that will have a lot of emotional storylines. Curt Mallory is the son of Former Indiana Football Head Coach Bill Mallory who won 69 games from 1984-96 and had six bowl appearances. Mallory and Allen have a deep respect and admiration for each other. Mallory said during his weekly press conference “I think if there is one compliment you can give another coach, if my son wasn’t playing for me, I’d want him to play for Tom Allen, That’s the respect I have for him”. Allen said this week “Just a football family, good people, and there so respected in this entire profession at such a high level, just really looking forward to it. Always cheering for him when were not playing him”.
