Indiana University Men’s Soccer plays to second scoreless draw in Big Ten Play  
After 90 minutes of action the Indiana Hoosiers and the Michigan Wolverines Men’s Soccer teams played to a 0-0 draw Tuesday Night on Jerry Yeagley Field at Bill Armstrong Stadium. Indiana is 3-3-3 on the season and 0-1-2.  Michigan is 2-3-4 on the season and 1-0-2 in the Big Ten. Michigan came into the match of a 3-2 home win against Rutgers Friday while the Hoosiers fell to Michigan State 2-1 in East Lansing. The Hoosiers keep their 155 consecutive regular season match streak without back-to-back losses. The Hoosiers have scored 6 goals on the season and have given up 5 goals. JT Harms made 4 saves in goal and gets his 5th shutout of the season and his 11th shutout as Hoosier along with 13 in his career between Indiana and Duke. Michigan’s Isaiah Goldson gets his first shutout of the season after making 7 saves between the pipes for the Wolverines. Indiana leads the All-Time Series 23-4-5 and this is second straight draw in the series and the third straight match that Indiana not won after Michigan won 2-1 in overtime on October 1, 2021.

The Hoosiers had plenty of chances with 19 shots and 7 on goal. A few of those chances hit the cross bar and the post also went to the left and right of goal. Michigan had 5 shots and 4 of those on goal. Michigan committed 12 fouls and the Hoosiers committed 7. Indiana had 9 corner Kicks and Michigan had 6. Indiana had four corner kicks to just 3 for Michigan. In the First Half Indiana out shot Michigan 6-4 as the Wolverines had 3 shots on goal to 2 for IU. JT Harms made 3 first half saves while Isaiah Goldson had 2 first half saves. Michigan had 6 fouls and the Hoosiers committed two fouls. IU had 4 corner kicks to 3 for Michigan and the Hoosiers called offsides twice. 

Indiana is now 357-71-55 all time at Bill Armstrong Stadium and 69-7-13 since 2016. The Hoosiers are 140-34-30 all time in Big Ten play. The Hoosiers still have 5 Big Ten Matches left to play but with 2 points through three Big Ten Matches it going to be a tough hill to climb for the Hoosiers. Michigan has scored 16 goals on the season and have given up nine. With a 2-2 draw at Maryland and a draw against the Hoosiers. Michigan has five points in the Big Ten Season so far. The Hoosiers travel to Kentucky next Tuesday for a non-conference match with the Wildcats and for Indiana Goalkeeper JT Harms the mindset in simple. “We have to continue to put the work in training, watch film and go out and get a big result” Harms said after the match. “We have to get the extra effort and control what we can control, and things will fall into place” Harms said.

Indiana University Women’s Soccer ranked in two polls for the First Time since 2021
Indiana women’s soccer climbed into the national polls coming in at No. 16 in the United Soccer Coaches Poll, the organization announced on Tuesday. The Hoosiers are off to their best start since 2013 with an undefeated record of 9-0-2 while posting a 3-0 record in the Big Ten. This is the highest ranking in program history. IU last appeared in the polls in March 2021 where they were ranked No. 24. Recently, Indiana shutout No. 18 Northwestern, 2-0, knocking off their first ranked opponent since 2017 to earn their third conference win. Additionally, IU was also recognized in TopDrawerSoccers’ national poll coming in at No. 17. IU Women’s Soccer will travel to Columbus for a border battle with the Buckeyes on Thursday. Kickoff is set for 7pm on Big 10 Network+.

Indiana University Women’s Golf Finishes Seventh at the Glass City Invitational
The Indiana Hoosiers women’s golf team finished seventh at the Glass City Invitational played at the Inverness Club in Toledo, Ohio Monday and Tuesday with a 54-hole score of 905 (308-301-296; +41).  Redshirt junior Caroline Smith finished t-ninth overall after shooting a 219 (73-74-72; +3) for the invitational. The Wake Forest transfer birdied No. 8 in the opening round and No. 2 in the second round, before heating up in the third round where she sunk birdies on holes 3, 8, 11, and 16. The three-round score of 219 is the lowest tournament score for Smith this season.

Chloe Johnson shot a three-round total of 225 (78-74-73; +9) to secure a t-22nd place finish. She recorded two birdies in the second round, and five in the final round. Senior Dominika Burdová, who competed in the starting lineup for the first time this season, finished t-35th. The Czech Republic native shot a 229 (77-78-74; +13), contributing solid numbers to the Hoosiers’ team score. Burdová carded birdies on holes No. 3, 5, and 16 in the second round, and holes No. 6 and 8 in the final round. Graduate student Caroline Craig posted a score of 233 (81-75-77; +17) to finish t-43rd overall. The Georgia native sank birdie putts on No. 8 and 11 in the second round and on No. 2, No. 11, No. 18 in the final frame. Redshirt sophomore Maddie May placed t-50th with a 54-hole scorecard of 236 (80-78-78; +20). The Ole Miss transfer posted a birdie on No. 11 in round two.

Competing as an individual, Sophomore Faith Johnson shot a 236 (82-79-75; +20) to finish t-50th. She converted two birdies in each round, starting on No. 4 and 16 in round one, No. 13 and 18 in round two, and No. 14 and 16 in the final round. Also competing as an individual, freshman Nicole Kolbas shot a 242 (77-82-83; +26) to finish t-60th. In her second event of the season, Kolbas recorded birdies on holes No. 2 and 7 in the opening round, No. 18 in the second round, and No. 5 and 18 in the final frame. Indiana will return to the golf course for the Evie Odom Invitational played from Oct. 6-8 at the Princess Anne Country Club Course in Virgina Bech, Va.

Indiana University Women’s Soccer players Jamie Gerstenberg and Hope Parades win Big Ten Weekly Awards
Indiana junior midfielder Hope Paredes and Jamie Gerstenberg earn Big Ten Weekly Awards; the league announced on Tuesday. Paredes, a transfer from San Diego State, earns Defensive Player of the Week and her first conference accolade after she scored the game winner in the second minute to defeat No. 18 Northwestern, 1-0, on Sunday afternoon. The junior midfielder holds .636 shots on goal percentage and has for points on the season. She has made seven starts this season, earning back-to-back starts against Illinois and Northwestern, with 556 minutes played on the pitch. The Irvine, Calif., native has four points on the season with one game winning goal.

Gerstenberg earned two victories including her sixth shutout against No. 18 Northwestern. She combined for nine saves against Illinois and Northwestern for 115 career saves. The Birkenwerder, Germany, native also posted her sixth shutout this season against the ranked opponent and holds a .827 save percentage. She has faced only six goals this season with .58 goals against average. She currently ranks third in the conference in goals against (.571) and shutouts per game (.545) and fifth in saves (27).

Paredes and Gerstenberg helped extend the Hoosiers win streak to six and the longest undefeated streak since 2007 when IU went undefeated in 13 straight games. IU also defeated their first ranked opponent since 2017 against the Wildcats. The honors mark the fifth Big Ten weekly awards for Indiana this season. Gerstenberg earns her third Big Ten Goalkeeper of the Week award in her career. She last earned the award on Sept. 20, 2022. Paredes is the second defender alongside transfer Lauren Costello to win Defender of the Week.

Indiana University Field Hockey’s Arabella Loveridge selected to the New Zealand Under 21 National Team
Indiana Field Hockey junior goalkeeper Arabella Loveridge has been selected for New Zealand’s U21 National Team. Loveridge was named to the team’s Extended Squad over the summer and is now officially a member of the U21 team. She was one of 18 players chosen for New Zealand’s U21 National Team.

As a member of the national team, Loveridge will get the opportunity to compete in high-level, international competition. Loveridge will represent New Zealand in the 2023 FIH Junior World Cup (JWC). The JWC will take place from November 29 to December 10 in Santiago, Chile. Loveridge has made 165 career saves in her three seasons with the Hoosiers.

Indiana University Swimming promotes Luke Ryan to Assistant Coach
A member of the Indiana swimming and diving staff since 2020, Luke Ryan has been promoted to assistant head coach and director of recruiting for swimming, IU head swimming coach Ray Looze announced last week. Since Ryan joined Looze’s staff, Indiana has won two Big Ten titles on the men’s side and finished in the top six at the NCAA Men’s Swimming and Diving Championships. The women’s team has placed top three at Big Ten’s each season and top-15 at the national meet, highlighted by a program record seventh-place finish at the 2023 championships.

Last season, the men placed fourth at the NCAA Championships led in the pool by Brendan Burns national title in the 100-yard backstroke and seven All-America finishes by fifth-year senior Van Mathias who posted dramatic year-over-year drops in the 50 freestyle (20.05 to 18.89), 100 freestyle (43.70 to 41.33) and 100 breaststroke (54.74 to 50.57). After the 2022-23 season, Ryan served as an assistant coach for the Tunisian national team at the Fukuoka 2023 World Aquatics Championships, specifically working with IU swimmer and 2020 Olympian Ahmed Hafanaoui. At the championships, Hafnaoui won world titles in the 1,500 free and 800 free and earned a silver medal in the 400 free, posting top-five times in all three events.
