
Colts place Richardson on injured reserve, out for at least 4 more weeks
The Colts on placed Quarterback Anthony Richardson on injured reserve, which will keep the 2023 No. 4 overall pick out for at least the next four games. Richardson sustained an AC joint injury to his right (throwing) shoulder during the second quarter of the Colts’ Week 5 win over the Tennessee Titans on Sunday at Lucas Oil Stadium. The rookie will now miss, at a minimum, games at the Jacksonville Jaguars (Week 6), Cleveland Browns (Week 7), New Orleans Saints (Week 8), and Carolina Panthers (Week 9). Per IR rules, the earliest Richardson could be activated is the Colts’ Week 10 game against the New England Patriots in Frankfurt, Germany. The Colts have a bye in Week 11.
Veteran QB Gardner Minshew will step in for Richardson beginning with this weekend’s AFC South tilt against the Jaguars at EverBank Stadium. The Colts are 3-0 in games Minshew either starts (Week 3) or plays significant snaps (Weeks 2, 5). Additionally, the Colts on Wednesday elevated Guard Ike Boettger to the 53-man roster from the practice squad, released wide receiver Juwann Winfree from the practice squad and signed wide receiver Anthony Miller and Quarterback Kellen Mond to the practice squad.
#25 Indiana University Women’s Soccer host #20 Michigan State and Michigan in final regular season homestand
No. 25 Indiana Women’s Soccer (10-1-3, 4-1-1 B1G) hosts No. 20 Michigan State and RV Michigan in their final regular season homestand at Bill Armstrong Stadium this evening and Sunday afternoon. Cruz Martin (PxP) and Adam Oppenheim (Analyst) will be on Tonight’s B1G+ call at 7pm with Josie Broyles providing updates from the sideline. Sunday’s match will also be on B1G+ at 3pm. Noel Fary (PxP) and Alex Hynes (Analyst) will be on Sunday afternoon’s call against Michigan with Joe Cronin on the sideline. Both matches will be broadcasted on B1G+
The Hoosiers reclaimed the Golden Boot on Sunday in West Lafayette with a 1-0 win over Purdue. Anna Bennett put the Hoosiers (10-1-3, 4-1-1 B1G) up early with a second chance shot that the Boilermakers failed to clear in the 0:37 seconds, tying the second fastest goal in regulation. The teams would battle it out in the first 20 minutes until Purdue (3-10-1, 0-5-1 B1G) saw an opportunity to equalize in the 27th minute, but junior goalkeeper Jamie Gerstenberg swooped in for the save. In the 31st minute, IU saw another chance from graduate forward Paige Webber. She flicked one into the bottom right of the net, but it wasn’t enough to get past the keeper. Junior defender Camille Hamm took a shot at the top center of the net to close out the first half in the 42nd minute.
Coming out of the locker room, Indiana continued to be aggressive as they took four shots on goal with their best chance coming from senior midfielder Sofia Black. Webber sent a cross in the middle, but Purdue’s keeper would make the grab. Gerstenberg picked up her second save of the afternoon in the 84th minute to shut down any opportunity from the Boilermakers before securing her eighth shutout victory this season.
Michigan State (9-3-2, 4-1-1 B1G) defeated the No. 14 ranked Michigan Wolverines in Ann Arbor on Saturday, Oct. 7. Junior forward Jordyn Wickes scored two goals including the game winner in the rivalry game to secure their first top-25 win of the season. The Spartans have scored 26 goals with 32 assists for 104 points on the season. Wickes leads the attack with seven goals with a .424 shots on goal percentage. Indiana leads the series against the Spartans 19-9-2. The Hoosiers fell, 1-0, in the last two matches.
No. 14 ranked Michigan (7-3-3, 3-2-1 B1G) fell 2-1 against rival Michigan State on Saturday. Senior forward Sammi Woods leads the team with eight goals and one assist for 17 points. She holds .542 shots on goal percentage. The Wolverines will travel to Rutgers to face the Scarlet Knights this evening before heading to Bloomington. The Wolverines lead the series 17-7-5. The Hoosiers have won the last three out of the last five matchups with the other two resulting in nil-nil draws in overtime.
The Hoosiers are receiving votes in week seven of the United Soccer Coaches Poll after earning their highest ranking at No. 16 in week six. Indiana’s national ranking at No. 16 was the highest ranking in program history. IU last appeared in the polls in March 2021 when they were ranked No. 24. Additionally, IU was also recognized in TopDrawerSoccers’ national poll for the first time coming in at No. 17. IU is #27 in the CollegeSoccerNews polls top-30 (Week 8 Oct. 9). The Hoosiers are second in the Big Ten standings behind No. 4 Penn State (11-0-2, 5-0-1 B1G) who holds an undefeated record through 13 matches. IU ranks No. 35 in the RPI standings and will play two opponents in the top-25 with Michigan (24), Penn State (1) along with Michigan State (26) who sits right outside.
Indiana University Men’s Basketball announces game times for the Two Exhibition Games
Fans will get their first glimpse of 2023-24 IU Basketball game action at 1 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 29. That’s the tip-time for Indiana’s first exhibition game at Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall against the University of Indianapolis. A few days later the Hoosiers will tip at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 3 against Marian University. Both exhibition games will air live on the subscription-based streaming platform B1G Network Plus. Hoosier Hysteria is slated for Oct. 20 at 7:30 p.m., and the IU basketball season kicks off officially on Nov. 7 vs. Florida Gulf Coast. Friday December 29th against Kennesaw State is the only game that does not have a time listed but will be streaming on Big Ten Network Plus.
Three Indiana University Freshman Women’s Soccer players named to the TopDrawerSoccer’s Midseason Top 100 Freshmen List
A trio of Indiana freshmen were named to TopDrawerSoccer’s Midseason Top 100 Freshmen List, the publication announced. Freshmen defender Piper Coffield held the highest ranking with midfielder duo Kennedy Neighbors and Elle Britt rounding out the list. Coffield is placed in the top-25 at No. 21 in TDS List. She has earned two Big Ten Freshman of the Week Awards this season. Coffield has tallied six points with two goals and two assists on the season. The Mars, Penn., native has started in 13 games for the Hoosiers this season and has aided in eight shutouts this season. Neighbors, a native of Evansville, Ind., has played in all 14 games this season earning six starts. She has totaled over 500 minutes on the pitch in her rookie season. She has tallied one assist and three shots on the season. Britt rounded out the list for the Hoosiers ranked at No. 63. She has totaled 575 minutes on the pitch through 14 games played. The Cincinnati, Ohio, native has earned four starts, recording 33 shots. Britt scored her first goal in the 2-0 shutout win over Louisville. In addition, she has recorded two assists totaling four points.
2024 Indiana University Football Commit Hubert Caliste has reopened his recruitment
There has been at least one case of recruiting disruption in the aftermath of Indiana’s change at offensive coordinator. Class of 2024 tight end Hubert Caliste announced he’s reopened his recruitment. The 6-foot-4- and 235-pound Caliste is currently ranked a 3-star according to the 247Sports Composite, and he’s the No. 52 tight end nationally in the class. According to On3, IU’s 2024 class ranks No. 60 nationally and No. 17 in the Big Ten. Indiana currently has 17 verbal commits going into the December early signing period. Head coach Tom Allen says the program may take up to a few more commits from the high school senior class.
“You know I’m thinking in the 18 to 20-ish range is where you’re at,” Allen said this week. “And once again the portal becomes utilized to offset any departures you might have that you either expect or didn’t expect and to be able to keep the rooms balanced. “And we have certain positions where we say we need to be able to get this many high school guys to develop those guys and have the right distribution of age within a position group. “So I think we’re really close to where we want to be from a high school number, which is higher than a lot of people are choosing to go right now.”
Indiana University Women’s Soccer back in the National Polls
Indiana Women’s Soccer checks into week eight of the national polls for the second time this season coming in at No. 25 in the United Soccer Coaches Poll, the organization announced on Tuesday evening. The Hoosiers hold a 10-1-3 record for their first 10-win season under HeadCooach Erwin van Bennekom and the best since 2013 when the Hoosiers went 15-7-1. Indiana is also second in the conference standing with a 4-1-1 conference record behind the undefeated and No. 4 ranked Penn State Nittany Lions who are 5-0-1 in Big Ten play. IU last appeared in the week six polls coming in at No. 17 for their highest ranking in program history. Indiana received 14 votes in week seven before climbing back in after a 1-0 shutout win against Purdue. Indiana is also ranked No. 27 in the College Soccer News national poll.
