Grace Berger Named to AmeriCup Team

Indiana Women’s Basketball Rising Senior Grace Berger has been Named to the 2021 AmeriCup Team that will play in San Juan Puerto Rico June 11th-19th.  Berger was one of 13 finalists after the trials concluded April 21st. NaLyssa Smith of Baylor was unable to attend training camp this month due to a family illness setting the 12-player roster. The Roster will include four other Big Ten Players Veronica Burton of Northwestern, Naz Hillmon of Michigan, Diamond Miller and Ashley Ouswu of Maryland. Jackie Brown-Turner and Elissa Cunane of NC State who Berger face in NCAA Tournament Sweet 16 this season in which the Hoosiers won that game. Rhyne Howard of Kentucky who beat Indiana in Lexington in December. Rounding out the team are Aliyah Boston and Destanni Henderson of South Carolina, Sedona Prince of Oregon and Haley Jones of Stanford who won the National Championship this season. The USA will open play June 12th against the Dominican Republic at 6:10 PM and all games will be available on ESPN+

Kristina Paegle Advances to Wave II of US Olympic Swimming Trials

Bloomington South Rising Senior Kristina Paegle has advanced to Wave II of the US Olympic Swimming Trials in Omaha Nebraska June 13-20th. Paegle finished 2nd in the 100-yard freestyle with a career best 55.91 to advance to Wave II. Pagele finished 5th in the 50 Meter freestyle with a time of 25:60 but will not advance to Wave II in that event. The Wave I trials were held June 4th-June 7th in Omaha Nebraska. The Top two in each event advance to Wave II. Paegle is a two-time state high school champion in the 100-yard freestyle and two-time state runner up in the 200-meter freestyle.

Former Indiana Baseball Coach Tracy Smith Out at Arizona State

Arizona State has fired head coach Tracy Smith after seven seasons. Smith was 202-155 and led Arizona State to four NCAA Appearances but no trips to the College World Series. Arizona State was knocked out the Austin Regional after 9-7 loss to Fairfield in which the Sun Devils blew a five-run lead.  Smith Coached at Indiana from 2006-2014 and led the Hoosiers to the 2013 College World Series.  Smith had a 287-237 at IU and led the Hoosiers to 3 NCAA Tournaments. Smith was the 2014 National Coach of the Year while at Indiana.  He coached his Alma Mater Miami Ohio from 1997-2005 and was 317-220-1 with 2 NCAA Appearances in 2000 and 2005. Smith is Native of Kentland Indiana and Played at South Newton HS. In 24 seasons as a College Baseball Coach Smith is 806-612-1 with 9 NCAA Tournament Appearances and 1 trip to the College World Series 

Bloomington South Grad Jacob Young Heading to Super Regionals with Dallas Baptist

Bloomington South Grad Jacob Young will be competing in the NCAA Baseball Super Regionals with Dallas Baptist this coming weekend after this team won the Fort Worth Regional beating Oregon State 8-5 in Monday’s Championship Game. Dallas Baptist is 40-16 on the season and will Play Virginia in the Best two out of three Super Regional Series in Columbia South Carolina Saturday Through Monday. Young a Freshman has appeared in 3 games this season. Young has pitched a total of 3.1 innings given up 7 hits, 5 Runs all Earned, 2 strikeouts and no walks and has ERA of 13.50
