Indiana University Volleyball’s Camryn Haworth earns Big Ten Setter of the Week Honors
Junior Setter Camryn Haworth became the first player in program history with back-to-back triple-doubles this past week in matches at Illinois and Northwestern. The Fishers, Ind. native earned Big Ten Setter of the Week honors for the third time this season after a spectacular all-around performance in a pair of road contests. She compiled 50 assists, a career-high 13 kills and 10 digs at Illinois on Wednesday (Oct. 25) before repeating the feat with 50 assists, 10 kills and 10 digs at Northwestern (Oct. 29). According to Big Ten research, she is the first player in the conference with consecutive triple-doubles since Lexi Zimmerman of Michigan did so in 2010.

Haworth is just the second player in program history to receive the same Big Ten weekly honor three times in the same season. Jordan Haverly (2009) won Big Ten Freshman of the Week accolades three times in one season. All-American Middle Blocker Ashley Benson was awarded four weekly honors in 2010 but they were split between two separate certificates. For her career, Haworth has passed 2,500 assists (2,509) and has 894 on the season, well on pace to pass her total mark of 1,111 from last year. She produced five service aces at Northwestern, taking her to 58 on the season and 149 for her career. Her 58 aces are the most in a single season by a Big Ten player since Penn State’s Micha Hancock went for 126 during the 2014 campaign. Haworth is also No. 13 in Big Ten history in aces during the rally-scoring era (since 2001).

There have been four triple-doubles in the rally-scoring era at IU with three of them coming from Haworth across the last 29 matches. She is the first person with multiple in a season since Laurie Gardner in 2000. Her three-career triple-doubles are second only to Karen Dunham (1984-87) with five. Haworth has served as the team’s starting setter in all 57 of IU’s games over the past two years. In that time period, she has led IU to 32 wins. The Hoosiers are hitting .238 this season with Haworth running the offense, one of the best single-season percentages in program history. Nebraska setter Bergen Reilly and Haworth have each one three Big Ten Setter of the Week awards this season. Nobody else in the league has more than one.

Indiana Men’s Soccer (9-4-4, 4-2-2 B1G) won a share of the Big Ten regular season championship and the No. 1 seed in the conference tournament after a 4-1 rout of Rutgers (5-7-3, 3-4-1 B1G) Sunday on Jerry Yeagley Field at Bill Armstrong Stadium. The conference title is IU’s 33rd overall and its 18th regular season championship. It’s also Indiana’s fifth regular season title under head coach Todd Yeagley and ninth overall league title in his 14 seasons. One of the top defenses and chance-creating teams in the country, perhaps Indiana was unlucky to start their Big Ten slate 0-1-2. Never daunted though, the Hoosiers rallied to go 4-1-0 down the stretch. And, on Sunday, chances were finished in a 4-1 rout of Rutgers, and IU got a couple breaks from out-of-town matches.

Five teams came into the day within reach of the trophy. IU had 13 points behind co-leaders Penn State, Northwestern and Michigan State, each having 13. Penn State tied Wisconsin, Northwestern lost to Michigan, and Michigan State had played its eighth conference game on Tuesday. IU’s 2-1 win over Penn State in October – that kickstarted a 6-1-0 run this month – was the head-to-head tiebreaker that gave IU the No. 1 seed in the tournament. Indiana capped its regular season with a dominant performance in the finale, firing 19 shots and 15 on goal. Senior Hugo Bacharach, freshman Collins Oduro and juniors Patrick McDonald and Samuel Sarver all splattered the scoresheet. Indiana has won 18 Big Ten regular season titles in the 33 seasons it has been contested.

The Hoosiers earned their sixth win in seven games and had a 6-1-1 record in October. Sarver scored his seventh goal of the season, bringing his point total to 18. Both lead the team.  Bacharach scored his first goal as a Hoosier and No. 8 of his career. He also earned his third assist of the season, all contributing to Sarver goals.

Indiana University Field Hockey takes down Kent State on Senior Day

She was assisted by freshman midfielder Inés Garcia Prado and graduate forward Sarah Charley. Kent State would tie the game with a goal from Patricia Strunk later in the first quarter in the third minute. Strunk would add another score to put the Golden Flashes up 2-1 early in the third quarter. She was assisted by Bella Carpenter and Eva Usoz. Junior midfielder Maggie Carter would push the Hoosiers back into a tie in the 40th minute of play. She was assisted by Sarah Charley. The Hoosiers would go on to win the game from an unassisted goal by sophomore back Emma Thompson in overtime. Cookson’s goal was her second of the season. Carter’s goal was her second of the season. The goal from Thompson was the first of her career. Indiana outshot Kent State, 11-4.

#21/24 Ranked Indiana University Women’s Soccer falls to #6 Penn State in the Big Ten Tournament Quarterfinals
No. 5 seeded Indiana (12-3-4, 6-2-2 B1G) fell 3-0 against No. 4 seeded Penn State in the Big Ten Quarterfinal match at Jeffery Field on Sunday afternoon. Penn State found the back of the net in the 21st minute and extended the lead in the 25th minute for a quick 2-0 lead. Indiana saw three shots in the first half but couldn’t get one on goal through the first 45. The Hoosiers continued to look for their first chance on goal out of the break. Senior midfielder Sofia Black opened the second half with an opportunity in the 47th minute. Once again, the shot would go just wide of the net.  Penn State scored another goal in the 52nd minute off a second chance opportunity in the goalie box.  Sophomore midfielder Olivia Rush had the Hoosiers first shot on goal in the 61st minute. She fired one from the midfield straight on the goal, but Penn State’s graduate goalkeeper Katherine Asman Nittany Lions keeper would make the save. Graduate forward Paige Webber found an open look in the 78th minute on a pass from freshman defender Piper Coffield. Her attempt was shut down as Asman made another deflection.   Black fired two shots on goal in the 82nd and 83rd minute but was unable to capitalize on either opportunity.

Indiana made their first appearance in the tournament since 2019. The teams tied 11-11 in shots, but the Nittany Lions held an 8-4 advantage in shots on goal. IU led 3-0 in corners. Seven Hoosiers recorded a shot in the match. Black led the team with four. Jamie Gerstenberg made four saves against the Nittany Lions bringing her season total to 47 and her career total to 135 saves. Indiana will await their fate in the NCAA Tournament. The selection show will be held on Monday, Nov. 6, at 4 pm and be streamed live on NCAA.com.
