Indiana House advances Hall’s resolution calling for congressional term limits
The Indiana House of Representatives recently passed a bipartisan resolution authored by State Rep. Dave Hall (R-Norman) that would add Indiana to the states seeking a convention to amend the U.S. Constitution to include congressional term limits.

Article V of the Constitution allows for the legislatures of two-thirds of the states to call a convention for proposed constitutional amendments. If passed, Hall’s resolution would add Indiana to the list of states seeking a convention to propose term limits for members of the U.S. House of Representatives and Senate.

After 34 state legislatures pass similar resolutions on the topic, and the term limits amendment is approved, it must be ratified by 38 states to become part of the U.S. Constitution.

House Joint Resolution 3 now moves to the Senate for further consideration. For more information, visit iga.in.gov

Governor Holcomb, FSSA announce additional $6.9 million in grants to support childcare
Governor Eric J. Holcomb announced today the Indiana Family and Social Services Administration’s Office of Early Childhood and Out-of-School Learning is awarding another $6.9 million in employer-sponsored childcare grants to an additional 22 businesses, community groups and school corporations, bringing the total invested to $25 million. The initiative, part of Gov. Holcomb’s 2024 Next Level Agenda, is mobilizing employers and communities to create or expand child care offerings that address the needs of working Hoosiers.

Overall, more than 40 large employers with 1,000 or more employees will receive up to $750,000 each. More than 30 mid-sized employers with between 100 and 999 employees will receive up to $350,000. And 12 small employers with between 20 and 99 employees will receive up to $50,000.

The program, a partnership with the Indiana Chamber of Commerce, uses a portion of the state’s remaining federal relief funds from the COVID-19 pandemic and is part of the state’s broader efforts to strengthen the early child care and education sector, providing support for today’s workforce and investing in tomorrow’s. The program is also supported by the Indiana Manufacturers Association.

Duo responsible for 3 Central Indiana armed robberies sentenced to Federal Prison
Corey Rice, 19, and Antonio Williams, 19, both of Indianapolis, have been sentenced to 60 and 66 months respectively in federal prison after pleading guilty to three counts of interference with commerce by robbery. According to court documents, on April 23, 2023, Corey Rice and Antonio Williams robbed a Subway restaurant located in Beech Grove. Both men approached the employees and threatened them with weapons that appeared to be firearms, demanded cash, and obtained about $400.

On April 30, 2023, at approximately 5:15pm, Rice and Williams robbed Indy Smoke Time in Greenwood. They again brandished apparent firearms at the employees, demanded cash, and walked out with $570. On the same day, just 45 minutes later, Rice and Williams robbed a Family Dollar store on West Washington Street in Indianapolis, also brandishing apparent firearms. The duo left with an unidentified sum of money.

Approximately ten minutes after the Family Dollar robbery, IMPD officers observed Rice and Williams arrive at an apartment complex on the Central Canal in downtown Indianapolis. Prior to making arrests, officers observed both defendants dispose of grey trash bags. Williams was subsequently interviewed and admitted that he threw the cash from the robberies into the canal after seeing police approach.
