Two More Indiana University Baseball Players Selected in MLB Draft
Indiana University Baseball had six players drafted in the 3-day Major League Baseball Draft that had 20 total rounds. Two more Hoosiers heard their names called on Tuesday. Junior Infielder Cole Barr was selected with the 444th overall pick by the Seattle Mariners in the 15th round. Outfielder Grant Richardson was selected with the 513th pick in the 17th round by the New York Yankees. They Join Pitchers McCade Brown, Gabe Bierman, Tommy Sommer and Matt Litwicki who were all selected on Monday. Indiana University has had 110 players that have been drafted in school history.
Edgewood Grad and Incoming Indiana Baseball Freshman Luke Hayden Goes Undrafted
Incoming Indiana University Baseball Freshman and Edgewood Grad Luke Hayden did not get selected in this year Major League Baseball Draft. Hayden made teams aware that if he was not picked early enough then he was unlikely to sign if drafted. Hayden told the Bloomington Herald-Times that the plan is to invest 3 years at IU getting stronger, more flexible, develop a 4th pitch, raise his fastball to 100 MPH and raise his draft stock, seeing that is a better alternative to bouncing around on buses in the minors for the same duration. Hayden will be eligible for the Draft his junior year and should he come back to IU for his senior season he could be drafted for a second time.
Milwaukee Bucks Host Phoenix Suns in Game 4 Of NBA Final
The Milwaukee Bucks host the Phoenix Suns in Game 4 of the NBA Finals tonight at 9 PM on ABC. The Bucks lead the series 2-1. East Chicago Central and Purdue Grad E’Twaun Moore has yet to play in the NBA Finals for the Suns. Indianapolis Pike Grad Jeff Teague has scored 7 points in 36 minutes of action through the first 3 of the NBA Finals while Norte Dame Grad Pat Connaughton has scored 30 points in 92 minutes for the Bucks.
Skylar Diggins-Smith to Play in WNBA All Star Game
South Bend Washington and Norte Dame product Skylar Diggins-Smith will play for Team USA in tonight’s WNBA All Star Game in Las Vegas at 7 PM on ESPN. Diggins-Smith will make her fifth WNBA All Star Game and plays for the Phoenix Mercury. Diggins-Smith was Indiana Miss Basketball in 2009 and won the State Championship in 2007. She Played at Norte Dame from 2009-2013 scoring 2,357 points in 150 Games led the Irish to 3 final four and two national Championship game appearances. Diggins-Smith will represent Team USA in the Tokyo Olympics later this month. Jewell Loyd who played at Norte Dame from 2012-15 is on Team USA as well. This is 3rd time that WNBA All Star Game has been a Team USA_vs WNBA All Star Format with Team USA winning in 2004 and 2010. The Indiana Fever who are 4-16 going into the Olympic Break have no All-Star Selections.
