
#14 Indiana University Women’s Basketball holds off Michigan State in a track meet
The # 14 Indiana Hoosiers held off the Michigan State Spartans 94-91 Thursday in Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall before a crowd of 8, 850. Chloe Moore-McNeil became just second IU Women’s Basketball player to record a triple double as she scored 10 points, 10 rebounds and dished 11 assists. Moore-McNeil joins Grace Berger who did it three times in her career. Mackenize Holmes led the Hoosiers with 28 points and needs just 17 points to break the school’s all-time scoring record held by Tyra Buss who scored 2,364 points from 2014-2018. Holmes has 2,348 points, 935 rebounds, 239 blocks and a school record 956 career field goals made. Holmes will go for the record on Sunday as the Hoosiers host Purdue on Sunday Afternoon at 2pm. Holmes is not thinking about the scoring record she is thinking a bigger picture. “I want to beat Purdue, I want to sweep Purdue for my career.” Holmes said after the game. Indiana is 19-3 overall and 10-2 in the Big Ten. Michigan State leads the all-time series 50-35 as the Hoosiers have won 5 of the last 6 meetings in the series including the last four inside Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall.
Sara Scalia scored 21 points, Yarden Garzon added 20 points and Grass Lake Michigan native Lexus Bargesser added 10 points. Henna Sandvik hit a big three in the fourth quarter and Lenee Beaumont scored 2 points. The Hoosiers were 35-52 from the field for 67%, 10-20 from three-point range for 50% and 14-16 from the free throw line for 87%. The Hoosiers pulled down 24 rebounds, dished out 25 assists, 5 steals, 4 blocks and committed 10 turnovers. The Hoosiers had 40 points in the paint.
Julia Ayrault scored 25 points to lead Michigan State as the Spartans put five in double figures. DeeDee Hagemann added 19 points and dished out 10 assists. Moria Joiner added 14 points. Threyn Hallock scored 13 points and Tory Ozment added 11 both off the bench. Joycelyn Tate added 7 points and Abbey Kimball added 2 points. Michigan State had 19 rebounds, 14 assists, 6 steals, no blocks and committed 10 turnovers. The Spartans had 36 points in the paint and 24 bench points.
The pace was fast and furious as both teams were hitting from all over the floor as Michigan State led 32-27 after the first quarter. The Spartans outscored Indiana 21-16 in the second quarter as the Spartans led 53-43 at halftime. Julia Ayrault had 18 points and Theryn Hallock had 11 points off the bench. Sara Scalia scored 12 points, Mackenize Holmes and Lexus Bargesser added 10 points in the first half. Indiana turned it around in the third quarter as they outscored 23-15 in the third quarter as Michigan State led 68-66 at the end of the third quarter. Indiana outscored Michigan State 28-23 in the fourth quarter as the Hoosiers outscored the Spartans 51-38 in the second half as the Hoosiers finished making 10 of their last 11 shots from the field. “Well if you did not enjoy that you are not a basketball fan” Indiana Head Coach Teri Moren said after the game.
There were 7 ties and 7 lead changes and for the fans that were in attendance Thursday Night. They were treated to one exciting Women’s Basketball game that was fast paced, hard fought, great shooting, big shots and came down to the wire and there is a big rivalry game on Sunday with Purdue coming in town looking for revenge after the Hoosiers won in West Lafayette earlier in the month. A chance to watch Mackenize Holmes make history and collect a Teri Moren Bobblehead.
Indiana University Men’s Basketball faces a tall task when they take on #2 Purdue in Mackey Arena Saturday Night
The Indiana Hoosiers will travel to West Lafayette to face the #2 Purdue Boilermakers in Sold-Out Mackey Arena Saturday night at 8pm with the game televised on FOX. The Boilermakers beat the Hoosiers 87-66 in Simon Sjkodt Assembly Hall on January 16, to hand the Hoosiers their worst loss in this series at Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall. The Hoosiers had no answer for 7-4 300-pound Zach Edey who had 33 points and 14 rebounds. Edey was 11-23 from the field and 11-12 from the free throw line. Edey was in early foul trouble and dove for a loose ball, and he dominated the Hoosier Big Men and look do the same in this meeting.
Indiana is coming off an epic come from behind victory at Ohio State 76-73 Tuesday Night in Value City Arena in Columbus. The Hoosiers victory was the largest come from behind win since 1998. Down 18 points with 18 minutes left Trey Galloway, Malik Reneau and Anthony Leal led the charge for the cream and crimson. With 22 seconds left it was the Bloomington native and 2020 Indiana Mr. Basketball Anthony Leal who hit a three pointer to put the Hoosiers up one 74-73. Kel’el Ware went up for a dunk and planted wrong on his foot and was fouled. Leal hit two free throws to seal the game for the Hoosiers. Ware did not practice on Wednesday when the team returned from Columbus and is status for Saturday’s game is uncertain.
The Hoosiers are 14-9 overall and 6-6 in the Big Ten. Malik Reneau who scored 26 points and pulled down 14 rebounds for his second double-double averages a team leading 16.4 points along with 6.2 rebounds. Kel’el Ware averages 14.8 points, a team leading 9.1 rebounds and 1.5 blocks per game. Trey Galloway who scored 25 points against Ohio State averages 11.1 points along with a team leading 3.9 assists and 1.2 steals per game. Mackenize Mgbako averages 10,.3 points game. Xavier Johnson who averages 8.3 points in 14 games this season is out indefinitely with an elbow injury he suffered against Iowa on January 30. The Hoosiers average 73 points and commit 12 turnovers per game. Indiana is shooting 47% from the field, 33% from three-point range and 66% from the free throw line.
Purdue is 21-2 overall and 10-2 in the Big Ten and won at Wisconsin on Sunday 75-69. Lance Jones led the way 20 points, Braden Smith scored 19 points, Zach Edey added 18 points and 13 points along with 12 points from Fletcher Loyer. The Boilers were 27-57 from the field for 47%, 3-11 from three-point range for 27% and 18-23 from the free throw line for 78%. Purdue pulled down 42 rebounds, dished out 12 assists, 4 steals, 3 blocks and committed 11 turnovers. Purdue led 34-32 at halftime and outscored the Badgers 41-37 in the second half.
Zach Edey is averaging a team leading 23.1 points, 11.7 rebounds and 2.3 blocks per game. Lance Jones is averaging 13 points per game. Braden Smith is averaging 12.4 points along with a team leading 7.3 assists and 1.5 steals per game. Fletcher Loyer is averaging 11.3 points per game. Purdue averages 85.3 points and commits 11.7 turnovers per game. The Boilermakers are shooting 49% from the field, 40% from three-point range and 72% from the free throw line.
Indiana University Men’s Soccer announces 2024 Signing Class
Indiana men’s soccer head coach Todd Yeagley announced Thursday the program’s 2024 freshman signing class, consisting of nine student-athletes set to join the roster for the upcoming season. “(I’m) really excited to announce our 2024 class,” Yeagley said. “We have nine [newcomers]; three defenders, three midfielders, three attackers. All provide really good, immediate positional help for us. (I’m) excited for our fans and all the Hoosiers out there to watch this new, young group hit the field next fall.” Indiana has welcomed 11 total newcomers to its 2024 roster. Last week, the program announced the addition of two transfer student-athletes; Quinton Elliot, a productive wing back from Louisville, and Justin Weiss, a two-time first-team All-Big Ten performer from Northwestern.
Easton Bogard | Forward | Oak Park, Ill. | Chicago Fire- The No. 23-rated prospect in the Midwest region according to Top Drawer Soccer, Easton Bogard is a member of Chicago Fire Academy, with whom, in 2023, he was named to the Elite Academy League U17 and USYS National Championships U17 Best XI lists. Bogard was also a 2023 United Soccer Coaches All-American at Oak Park and River High School, where he set scoring records for a single season (33, 2023) and career (91). The IHSSCA Player of the Year appeared in the High School All-American Game.
Drew Gaydosh | Defender | Centerville, Ohio | Cincinnati United Premier-One of the top prep school defenders in the country, Drew Gaydosh was a two-time United Soccer Coaches All-American at Centerville High School. Over three seasons, Gaydosh helped Centerville keep 39 clean sheets over 64 matches, conceding 39 goals. He produced 23 goals, with 14 of those coming from headers off set pieces. Gaydosh was also a two-year captain for his club, Cincinnati United Premier, and spent time with FC Cincinnati Academy.
Charlie Heuer | Midfielder | Elmhurst, Ill. | Chicago Fire-Charlie Heuer is the No. 182-ranked prospect in the 2024 class according to Top Drawer Soccer as well as the No. 11 recruit in the Midwest region. Heuer has most recently spent time with Chicago Fire Academy following a stint with FC United, also within MLS NEXT. Last season, he was named the 2022-23 FC United Academy Player of the Year.
Miles Imparato | Midfielder | Tampa, Fla. | Chargers SC-Playing with Chargers SC in MLS NEXT, Miles Imparato is the No. 92 overall prospect, No. 8 Florida region product and No. 34 midfield talent in the 2024 class according to Top Drawer Soccer. Imparato is a two-time United Soccer Coaches Player of the Year nominee tied to earning All-America honors each of the last two seasons. During his youth career, he has received four invitations to the U.S. Youth National Team Identification Center.
Nolan Kinsella | Forward | Munster, Ind. | FC United-Nolan Kinsella is the No. 15-ranked prospect in the Great Lakes region according to Top Drawer Soccer after spending time with FC United and Indy Eleven academies – both in MLS NEXT – as well as Millennium Soccer Association early in his youth career. Kinsella was a standout player at Munster High School, totaling 73 goals and 30 assists in his career – including a school record 43 goals as a senior. A two-sport athlete, Kinsella also lettered in basketball.
Jack Lindimore | Defender | New Albany, Ohio | Columbus Crew-Jack Lindimore comes in as the No. 111-ranked prospect, No. 7 Great Lakes region prospect and No. 35 defender according to Top Drawer Soccer. An eight-year starter for Columbus Crew Academy, he captained the U19 team to a UPSL East Regional Championship last year. Lindimore has also spent time with Columbus Crew 2 and helped capture the club’s first MLS NEXT Pro title in 2022.
Josh Maher | Defender | Caseyville, Ill. | St. Louis CITY SC-Josh Maher was originally a member of the 2023 signing class as a four-star recruit, the No. 35-ranked prospect in the country. The talented center-back deferred his enrollment to 2024 and will join the program from St. Louis CITY 2, which he helped win the Western Conference title in 2022. During his youth career, Maher captained St. Louis CITY’s U17 team as swell as Saint Louis Scott Gallagher academy squads. Josh is the youngest brother of former IU men’s soccer player Jack and Joey Maher. Jack (2018-19) now plays in Major League Soccer for Nashville SC, and Joey (2020-23) graduated from IU in December.
Michael Nesci | Forward | Chicago, Illinois | Chicago Fire- A four-star recruit, Top Drawer Soccer ranks Michael Nesci No. 99 in the 2024 class as well as No. 4 in the Midwest and No. 25 among forwards. Nesci is a member of Chicago Fire Academy and was an MLS NEXT All-Star in 2023. Over the last two years, Nesci has appeared in 25 matches for Chicago Fire II in MLS NEXT Pro.
Drew Thompson | Midfielder | Brownsburg, Ind. | Indy Eleven-One of two Indiana natives joining the program, Drew Thompson has spent his youth career with Indy Eleven. During his time with the academy, Thompson helped the club capture back-to-back USL Academy Cup Championships in 2021 and 2022. Thompson is a two-sport high school athlete, lettering in basketball at Brownsburg.
Indy Eleven Signs IU and Crown Point Native Karsen Henderlong for the 2024 Season
Indy Eleven has announced the addition of forward Karsen Henderlong to its USL Championship squad for the 2024 season. Per club policy, terms of the deal will not be disclosed, and individual status is pending league and federation approval. No stranger to the Hoosier State, Henderlong is from Crown Point and finished his collegiate career at Indiana University during the 2022 and 2023 seasons. Henderlong saw action in 46 matches, making 10 starts, and was part of IU’s NCAA College Cup team in 2022. As a fifth-year senior, Henderlong scored four goals, including one in the Hoosier’s NCAA Tournament victory over Wake Forest to send IU to the NCAA Round of 16, and added three assists. During his true senior season, he tallied two goals and two assists. Prior to his time at Indiana, Henderlong played at Xavier University, appearing in 45 matches with 43 starts. Henderlong tallied 22 goals and seven assists, leading the Musketeers in goals and points in back-to-back seasons, and was a first-team All-BIG EAST selection in 2021 and second-team honoree in 2020.

Bloomington South and Bloomington North head to the Girls State Swimming Finals
Bloomington South and Bloomington North Girls Swimming are headed to the 50th annual IHSAA State Swimming Finals at the Indiana University Natatorium in Indianapolis. Action gets underway tonight at 6pm with the preliminaries in 11 events with 4 heats in each event with the exception of the 100 Yard Breastroke that has 5 heats. The Top 16 Times in each event move on to the finals on Saturday at 1 pm. The top 8 will in each event will battle it out for the state title while the next 8 will compete in the consolation finals to determine 9th through 16th place. Carmel is looking to extend is National Record for most consecutive state titles in any sport as they are going for their 38th straight title. The Greyhounds started the streak in 1987 and they dominated ever since and most years the team is finishes in second is a distant second. The Greyhounds won the title in 1982 so they have won 38 state titles in Girls Swimming and coming into the 2023-24 school years they have won a state record 174 state titles in 11 sports.
Bloomington South will have all three relays and three individuals competing in eight events. The Panthers are in the 200 Medley, 200 Yard Freestyle and 400 Yard Freestyle Relay teams. Sophomore Harper Eakin competes in the 200 Yard and 500 Yard Freestyle. Senior Kate Seidenfaden competes in the 200 Yard Individual Medley and Junior Anna Asplund competes in the 100-Yard freestyle and 100-yard backstroke. Bloomington North Senior Ashley Freel competes in the 100-Yard Butterfly and the 100-yard backstroke. The Panthers won the East Central Sectional and the Bloomington Schools combined to win 9 of 12 event titles. Asplund finished second in the 100-Yard backstroke behind Freel with a time that met the state standard to qualify for the event which was the only callup that Panthers got for State Finals.
Ten Monroe County Wrestlers head to Evansville for the Semi State
Ten Wrestlers representing all three Monroe County Schools will compete for a chance to advance to State Finals with the Semi States being held at Ford Center in Downtown Evansville hosted by Evansville Reitz HS at 10am Bloomington Time 9am Evansville time. 224 Wrestlers from 58 Schools with 16 in each of the 14 weight classes will battle out in hopes of making the state finals which will be held at the Ford Center in Evansville next Friday-Saturday due to the NBA All-Star Game being held in at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis. The top four in each weight class will advance to the state finals and they will have to win their first two matches in order to advance and the wrestlers that fall in the semifinals will face off for third place.
Bloomington South will have five wrestlers competing with Freshman Jaxsen Jean 29-8 taking on Sophomore Eli Ogle of Brownsburg who is 29-7 at 106 Pounds. Freshman Amrin Pratt 20-14 will take on Scottsburg Senior Kellan Carter who is 38-2 at 132 Pounds. Sophomore Wyatt Cooksey who is 31-8 will take on Junior Owen Trimpe of Franklin who is 28-11 at 144 Pounds. Regional Champ Evan Roudebush who is a Junior and 36-2 will take on Columbus East Freshman Miller Clayton who is 19-13. Junior Tristan Hicks who is 18-19 will take on Freshman Sam Howard of Boonville who is 51-0.
Bloomington North will have three wrestlers competing with Freshman Trae Hopkins 22-13 taking on Columbus North Freshman Cohen Long who is 28-3 at 132 pounds. Regional Champion Cael Hickok who is a senior and 23-3 will take on North Posey Freshman Cody Fitts who is 21-17 at 157 Pounds. Senior Jeremiah Casillas 24-10 will take on Sophomore Oliver Hallett of Indian Creek who is 34-1. Edgewood will have two wrestlers competing. Sophomore John Orman 26-6 takes on Heritage Hills Sophomore Berke Eisenhauer who is 41-4 at 120 Pounds. Junior Michael Neidigh 29-5 takes on Cale Bonenberger of Evansville North at 150 pounds.
