2 serious Monroe County accidents over the weekend leave one dead
This past weekend Monroe County experienced two serious vehicle accidents, one on Sunday involving motorcycles and one single-car crash on Saturday.

On Sunday, March 3, 2024, at 3:55pm, the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office responded to South State Road 446 and East Salt Creek Drive for a crash involving three motorcycles. Upon Deputies arrival they assisted in rendering aid to all three motorcyclists, and one had to be life lined from the scene for severe lower leg injuries. As a result, South State Road 446 was shut down for two hours while our accident reconstructionist investigated the scene. This accident is still under investigation.

On Saturday, March 2, 2024 at 7:57pm, the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a motor vehicle crash at Chambers Pike and Wayport Road. Upon Deputies arrival, they located a vehicle with a single occupant. The individual was later pronounced dead on the scene by the Monroe County Coroner. The investigation is showing the vehicle left the roadway for an unknown reason.

Monroe County Democrats choose new Bloomington City Council Member
Courtney Daily, an Administrator at the IU Kelley School of Business, was victorious this past weekend in the local Democrat Caucus to fill a vacant Bloomington City Council District 5 seat.

Daily was involved in a 3-way race with Former Fire Chief Jason Moore and former Council Candidate Jenny Stevens. The race was determined in 2 rounds, decided by a tie-breaking vote by Party Chair and current County Council Candidate David Henry.

The seat was left vacant in January after the immediate resignation by Shruti Rana, who won the election in November after defeating Stevens in the Primary and being unchallenged in the General Election. Rana stepped away after deciding to move out of state with her family.

City of Bloomington hires new Planning and Transportation Department Director
Bloomington Mayor Kerry Thomson appointed David Hittle as the Department of Planning and Transportation’s Director, contingent on the approval of the Plan Commission. Hittle, who is scheduled to take over the role on April 1, has served as the Executive Director for the Area Plan Commission of Tippecanoe County since 2021. In that role, he has managed 14 staff members and oversees a 500-square mile, 190,000 jurisdiction including the cities of Lafayette and West Lafayette.

From 2013 to 2021, Hittle was Johnson County’s Director of Planning and Zoning and he also worked as a Senior Planner in the City of Indianapolis’s Department of Metropolitan Development from 2006 to 2013. A member of the American Institute of Certified Planners, Hittle earned his undergraduate degree from California State University, a master’s degree from Indiana University Indianapolis and completed coursework for a master’s degree in urban and regional planning at Ball State.

Regina Marie Kirk, known professionally as Jenna Fischer, was born in Fort Wayne, Indiana.

Fischer is an American actress. She is best known for her role as Pam Beesly on the NBC sitcom The Office (2005–2013), for which she was nominated for the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series in 2007; she was also a producer for the show’s ninth and final season.

Fischer has appeared in such films as Blades of Glory (2007), Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story (2007), The Promotion (2008), Hall Pass (2011), and The Giant Mechanical Man (2012), a film directed by her husband, Lee Kirk. She also appeared as Rhonda McNeil in the NBC comedy drama series You, Me and the Apocalypse (2015). Fischer also starred in the ABC sitcom Splitting Up Together (2018–2019). She is currently the co-host of the podcast Office Ladies.
