Indiana Cutters Lose Tough One on the Road  

The Indiana Cutters fell to the Kentuckiana Calvary 8-6 Saturday night at the Woehrle Athletic Complex in Jeffersonville Indiana. The Cutters got on the board first when Marquise Holt busted one right up the middle for 65-yard run with 1:58 into the 2nd half to make it 6-0 and the 2nd touchdown run of the season for the Bloomington South graduate. The Calvary came back on the next drive to score on 9-yard run with 8:43 left in the 3rd quarter to make 6-6. After Jason Tuckson picked off the Calvary for his first interception of the season. Cantrell Harris had interception for the Cutters as the defense has had 6 picks on the year with Harris returning one for a touchdown against the in Week 1 against the Quad City Titans.  A penalty put the Cutters back at their own 2-yard line, Sidney Moore was tackled in the end zone for a safety with 6:19 left in the 3rd with the Calvary leading 8-6. The teams went back and forth getting stops until the end when it came down to a 40-yard field goal attempt that was wide left by Marquis Feldman. The Calvary beat the Cutters for the 4th straight time and the 3rd straight time in Jeffersonville. The Cutters are 4-3 on the season and will travel to Elkhart Panthers for the final regular season game this Saturday.

Indiana Men’s Basketball Gets Commitment from Kaleb Banks for 2022

Indiana University Men’s Basketball Coach Mike Woodson has gotten his 2nd verbal commitment for 2022 recruiting class.  Kaleb Banks 6-8 215-pound power forward out of Fayetteville Georgia has committed to the Hoosiers. Banks plays at Fayette County HS and averaged 23.5 Points and 8.5 rebounds in a 29-game season as a junior. He also shot 63 percent from the field and 40 three pointers in his junior season. Banks picks the Hoosiers over Mississippi State, Alabama, Georgia, Georgia Tech Clemson and Xavier. Banks joins CJ Gunn from Lawrence North HS in Indianapolis as the 2 members of the 2022 class. Both cannot sign National Letters of Intent until this November or April 2022.

Indiana University Athletes Begin Competition at Tokyo Olympics

15 former and current Indiana University Athletes have begun competition at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics in Japan. On Saturday Swimmer Marwan Elkamash a 2017 graduate finished 14th overall in the 400 Meter Freestyle for Egypt with a time of 3:46.94 he was 2nd in Heat 3 but the top 8 overall times make the final and he will not advance. Gabi Rennie a sophomore to be for the Women’s Soccer team played 10 Minutes as a substitute as New Zealand lost to the United States 6-1, Rennie has played 12 minutes in 2 games for New Zealand and scored a goal against Australia in the opener.  2014 Grad Shae (Fournier) La Roche started for Team Canada as they lost to Australia 8-5, 2018 Graduate Jessica Gauderalt is an alternate for the Canadians. On Sunday 2018 Graduate Zach Apple and 2019 Graduate Blake Peroni who is from Valparaiso finished 1st in the prelims of the 4 x100 freestyle relay with a time of 3:11:33 and will have 2nd best time overall behind Italy going into the final.  Lilly King a 2019 grad from Evansville finished 1st in her for the 100-meter breaststroke with a time of 1:05.55 and will advance to the final with 3 best time overall. The United States has 4 Gold Meals, 2 Sliver and 4 Bronze for 10 overall medals through 2 days of competition.

Brownsburg Wins Little League Baseball State Title

Brownsburg beat Sliver Creek 1-0 to win Indiana State Little League Baseball Championship in Munster Indiana advance to the Great Lakes Regional Tournament. The 6 Team Great Lakes Regional Tournament for Kids 12 and under will be held August 8th in Whitestown Indiana with state champions from Ohio, Michigan, Kentucky Illinois and Wisconsin competing for two spots at the Little League World Series in Williamsport Pennsylvania in August.  Brownsburg has won 5 state championships and it’s the first one since their run of four straight from 1999-2002 and won the Great Lakes Region Championship in 1999 and 2002. Brownsburg did not allow a run in four games and it was a rematch of 2019 state championship game when Sliver Creek won 6-0.
