Former Indiana University Athletic Director Clarence Doninger Passes Away at Age 90   Clarence Doninger, Indiana University’s athletic director from 1991–2001 and a member of IU Basketball’s 1957 Big Ten Championship team, passed away last night at his Indianapolis home surrounded by loved ones. He was 90 years old. “IU Athletics extends its deepest condolences to the Doninger family on the loss of Clarence,” said IU Vice President and Director of Intercollegiate Athletics Scott Dolson. “Words cannot adequately express the impact Clarence had on Indiana University and our department through his lifetime of service to his alma mater. He loved Indiana University as much as anyone I’ve ever known. I was incredibly fortunate to work for Clarence during his time leading our department; he had a profound impact on me as a leader, a close friend, and a trusted advisor.”

Doninger served as Indiana University’s Athletic Director from 1991–2001, overseeing a period of sustained success and growth for the department. During his decade-long tenure, IU’s athletic programs captured 27 Big Ten regular season or postseason championships and won two NCAA Championships in Men’s Soccer. Additionally, the department added four varsity sports under his leadership: Women’s Soccer, Women’s Water Polo, Rowing, and Field Hockey. Doninger’s impact on Indiana University extended well beyond his years as athletic director. An Evansville native, he earned his B.S. in Business from IU in 1957 while playing for the 1956–57 Big Ten Championship Men’s Basketball team. He subsequently earned his law degree from IU in 1960 and transitioned into a highly successful law career in Indianapolis.

While his legal career flourished, Doninger remained deeply involved with his alma mater, holding national leadership roles for both the IU Alumni Association and the IU Varsity Club. He was honored for his service with the Clevenger Award (1990), IUAA President’s Award (2000), the Distinguished Alumni Service Award (2005), and the Bicentennial Medal (2020). He was inducted into the IU Athletics Hall of Fame in 2011. Clarence is survived by his wife, Judy; the couple’s children, Gretchen and Eric; and five grandchildren – Lilly, Grayson, Charlotte, Isabella, and Emmett.

Indiana University Men’s Basketball Faces Northwestern in the Big Ten Tournament The 10th-seeded Indiana Hoosiers will kickoff the Big Ten Tournament with a second-round matchup with 15th-seeded Northwestern. Tip is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. ET tonight at the United Center in Chicago. Guy Haberman (PxP), Jordan Taylor (Analyst), and Andy Katz (Sideline) will handle the BTN broadcast.
Northwestern (14-18) is under the direction of 13th-year head coach Chris Collins, who has the second-most wins in Wildcat history (208). Senior forward Nick Martinelli, a 2026 All-Big Ten Second Team honoree, entered the postseason with averages of 22.7 points and 6.2 rebounds per game. He shot 50.1% (238-of-475) from the floor, 41.0% (41-of-100) from the 3-point line, and 80.9% (165-of-204) from the free throw line. The Glenview, Ill., native led the Big Ten Conference in scoring in consecutive season. Junior forward Arrinten Page posted 10.2 points and 4.5 rebounds per contest, while junior guard Jayden Reid added 9.7 points and 4.7 assists per night.

Indiana holds a 120-58 advantage in the 178-game series against Northwestern. The 120 wins is the most for the Hoosiers against any program, however the Wildcats have won six-straight games in the series. IU last win over NU at home came in a 66-62 result on Jan. 8, 2020. Northwestern earned a 72-68 victory in the lone matchup between the teams this season on Feb. 24 at Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall. Indiana led for nearly 35 minutes of game time and by as many as 13 points in the first half before ultimately falling.

Indiana (18-13 9-11 B1G) wrapped the regular season with a 91-78 loss at Ohio State on Saturday, March 7. The Hoosiers shot 54.9% (28-of-51) from the floor in the game. Five Hoosiers scored in double figures, led by fifth-year senior guard Lamar Wilkerson. He tallied 18 points, three rebounds, and three assists. Redshirt senior forward Tucker DeVries added 17 points, five assists, and three steals. Senior forward Sam Alexis collected 14 points on 5-of-5 shooting from the floor. Senior forward Reed Bailey added 12 points and five rebounds in 29 minutes off the bench.  Redshirt senior guard Conor Enright posted 12 points and five assists.

Indiana redshirt senior guard Lamar Wilkerson was named All-Big Ten Second Team by the league’s coaches and Third Team by select media members.
Wilkerson is the first Hoosier since Kel’el Ware (Third Team in 2024) to be voted All-Big Ten. Trayce Jackson-Davis (2022) was the last IU player to be named to the B1G second team.  The veteran guard averaged 21.0 points per game, the second-highest figure in the Big Ten. Wilkerson is on track to be the first player since Brian Evans (1995-96) to average 21.0-plus points in a season for Indiana. The Ashdown, Ark., native is one of four players nationally to average north of 20.0 points and at least 3.0 made 3-pointers per game this season.  Wilkerson made 103 shots behind the arc during the regular season, the second most in program history. He trails only Steve Alford’s total of 107 during the 1986-87 campaign. His free throw percentage of 89.3% is on pace to finish third in program history for players with more than 100 made free throws in a single season.

Indiana University Softball Beats Loyola Chicago by Run Rule Indiana picked up its 12th win by run rule this season on Tuesday when it defeated Loyola Chicago, 14-6 in six innings, at Andy Mohr Field. Indiana’s Aly VanBrandt led the way, hitting three home runs to power the team to the win, including the walk-off to secure the run rule in the bottom of the sixth. The Hoosiers have won three in a row and are now 19-5 on the year.

Loyola Chicago hit a home run over the left field wall on the first pitch when Alli Pawloicz went yard to go up 1-0 in the top of the first inning. The Ramblers would make it a 4-0 game in the top of the second on a run scored from a fielder’s choice and a bases-clearing double hit by Nat Lesnicki. Indiana would chip away from there though with a sac fly from Avery Parker, an RBI single from Josie Bird and a bases-loaded walk in the bottom of the third, Indiana got the Ramblers’ lead down to 4-3 at that point. VanBrandt hit the first of her home runs in the fourth when she hit a 2-run homer over the left field wall to put Indiana ahead 5-4. Indiana’s lead was brief as Loyola tied it at 6-6 in the top of the fifth. After the game was tied up, Indiana scored a barrage of runs, charting eight in the final two innings, including six in the fifth inning. Following a 1-2-3 top of the sixth, Indiana picked the bats up right away to end the game quickly. Cassidy Kettleman bunted for a single to get on base before VanBrandt hit a home run over the right field wall to seal the run rule on the walk off homer.

Aly VanBrandt’s three home runs is a career high and also tied the program’s single game record. The last Hoosier to hit three home runs in a game was Brianna Copeland at Ohio State (March 31, 2025). VanBrandt’s seven RBI in the game also tied the program’s single-game record. VanBrandt had seven RBI in the team’s win over Portland State earlier this season (Feb. 13). VanBrandt leads the team in home runs after her performance tonight, putting herself at nine on the season.  Aubree Hooks’ win puts her season record at 5-0 for the freshman. Three Hoosiers had multiple RBI on the day: VanBrandt (7), Parker (2), Bird (3). Indiana has won three games in a row dating back to the Saturday (March 7) won over Minnesota in their Big Ten opening series. Indiana will stay home for its second Big Ten series of the year with a three-game set against Rutgers from Friday-Sunday (March 13-15) at Andy Mohr Field.

Four Indiana University Divers Expand their NCAA Programs   Four Indiana divers added a second event to their programs for the NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships on Tuesday, the second day of the NCAA Zone C Diving Championships inside the Jones Natatorium on the campus of Eastern Michigan University. Having all qualified on one springboard Monday, the Hoosier quartet of senior Maxwell Weinrich, sophomore Joshua Sollenberger and juniors Lily Witte and Ella Roselli just needed top 12 finishes in Tuesday’s events. They can all qualify for a third event – platform – with similar performances Wednesday. On the 3-meter springboard, Witte got her second runner-up finish in two days with a score of 652.60. Roselli bounced back from a failed dive – meaning she scored no points – in the second round of prelims to finish No. 8 overall. Finishing 10th and 11th respectively on 1-meter, Weinrich (670.65) and Sollenberger (670.45) narrowly grasped their second NCAA bids with near-identical scores.

Indiana University Baseball handles Wright State A big offensive day was just what the doctor ordered for the Indiana Baseball team (7-9, 1-2 B1G) on Tuesday Night. The Hoosiers scored 12 runs – scored in just three different innings – on 16 hits to roll past visiting Wright State (5-9, 0-0 Horizon) at Bart Kaufman Field. For head coach Jeff Mercer, it was the first win of his IU tenure over his alma mater. Sophomore outfielder Caleb Koskie set the tone in the first inning when he clobbered a three-run home run over the bullpen in left field. IU jumped out to an early 4-0 lead and led for the entire nine innings.

Koskie had a team-high five RBIs on three hits to help anchor the middle of IU’s lineup. His sophomore counterpart, third baseman Will Moore, had a career-high four hits and reached all six times he came to the plate. Even with a shortened bullpen, IU’s pitching staff pieced together nine solid innings on the mound. Freshman right-handed pitcher Ivan Mastalski (W, 1-0) earned his first career win after throwing two innings to start the game. He allowed just one run on a solo home run. The contest turned when graduate student right-handed pitcher Kaden Jacobi recorded a three-pitch strikeout with the bases loaded in the sixth inning. Jacobi entered the game in a 2-0 count and proceeded to get IU out of a massive jam.

The Hoosiers would go on to score three runs in the home half of the inning to put the game away. A five-spot crooked number in the bottom of the eighth helped seal the deal for good. Koskie’s two-run double and an RBI single from Hanley helped provide insurance for the IU bullpen. Redshirt junior right-handed pitcher Jacob Vogel put up a scoreless ninth inning to end affairs on Tuesday evening. IU used eight pitchers, including redshirt sophomore right-handed pitcher Evan O’Neill – who made his collegiate debut in the win. IU will head out of town this weekend for a four-game road trip that takes the program to both Oregon (March 13-15) and Vanderbilt (March 17) over spring break. The next home series will come in two weeks when Minnesota makes the trip to Bart Kaufman Field (March 20-22).

Indiana University Wresting to Send Six to the NCAA Championships The Indiana Wrestling program will officially have six Hoosiers compete in the 2026 NCAA Wrestling Championships from March 19-21 in Cleveland, Ohio. Indiana’s Tyler Lillard (165) and Sam Goin (184) earned at-large bids to the championships today as the NCAA released the official announcement about the tournament’s field. Jacob Moran (125), Bryce Lowery (157), Derek Gilcher (174) and Gabe Sollars (197) all earned automatic bids to NCAAs at the Big Ten Championships this past weekend at Penn State. The six qualifiers mark the third consecutive year of six NCAA qualifiers. It is the first time that the program has totaled 6-plus NCAA qualifiers in three-straight years since 2008-10. Of Indiana’s six qualifiers, four of them are Indiana natives.
