Indiana University Women’s Basketball gets a commitment from top 20 5-star Azy Jackson IU women’s basketball continues to have significant recruiting momentum. On Friday, class of 2027 5-star senior forward Azy Jackson announced her commitment to the Hoosiers. The 6-foot-4 Washington-based Jackson took an official visit to IU a few weeks ago. Jackson is the No. 20 overall ranked prospect in the class of 2027 according to ESPN. Jackson picked IU over Kansas, USC, North Carolina and Cal. “When it came to choosing Indiana, I really liked the small college town feel and the personal feeling of the visit. It felt genuine and started to feel like family,” Jackson told ESPN.
Jackson averaged 14.6 points and 14.8 rebounds per game as a junior at Bonney Lake High School (Bonney Lake, Washington). She will not play as a senior as she recovers from a summer injury. IU landed the No. 8 2026 recruiting class according to ESPN, and they’re on track for another elite class. The Hoosiers now have three top-75 players in the 2027 class. Jackson joins ESPN No. 24 Brookeslee Colvin, and ESPN No. 66 Finley Parker.

Doubles Point Proves Decisive in 4-3 Loss for Taylor University Women’s Tennis at Anderson Taylor and Anderson split the six singles flights on Wednesday, which left the doubles point as the difference and that was enough for AU’s 4-3 win over the Trojans at Anderson High School. The result dropped Taylor to 2-1 on the fall. Much like the season opener against IU East, the Trojans lost the doubles point and rallied in singles for a 4-3 win. On Wednesday, the singles split left them one match short from pulling out the victory, with three of the six singles matches going to a third-set tiebreaker.
Anderson claimed the doubles point at the top two flights. Vanessa Akuaku and Makynna Oconitrillo topped Maddy Fuqua and Giselli Reschke 6-2 at No. 1, and Paula Torrent and Alli Hayden defeated Jillian Darby and Liza Brouwer 6-4 at No. 2. Ellie Schaufelberger and Anna Stone earned Taylor’s lone doubles win, a 6-4 decision over Kara Buehnerkemper and Anna Brown at No. 3 that improved the pair to 2-1 at the third flight this fall. Reschke stayed perfect at No. 2 singles, defeating Gabby Hosier 6-1, 6-2 to move to 3-0 in dual matches. Sydney Crisp claimed her first win at No. 4 with a 6-3, 6-2 victory over Torrent.
Schaufelberger remained undefeated at No. 5 singles. She took the first set 6-3 over Abigail Cunningham, dropped the second 6-4, then closed out the tiebreaker. The other two tiebreakers went Anderson’s way. Fuqua lost a tight first set to Akuaku at No. 1, answered with a 6-2 second set and fell short in the decider. At No. 6, Evy Danemayer won the opening set 7-6 before Buehnerkemper rallied 6-2 and took the tiebreaker. Hayden handed Anderson its other singles point with a 7-6, 6-3 win over Brouwer at No. 3. Akuaku and Hayden each won in both singles and doubles for the Ravens. Taylor returns home this morning to host future Crossroads League member Manchester at 11 a.m. at the Taylor Tennis Complex
Taylor University Men’s Soccer Suffers Road Setback at Goshen Josh Byrd scored his team-leading fifth goal of the season, but Goshen struck three times in a span of less than five minutes early in the second half to hand RV Taylor a 3-1 Crossroads League loss Wednesday night at Ingold Complex. TU (6-4-2, 0-3-0 CL) is still searching for its first league result of the season. The Maple Leafs (2-9-1, 1-2-0 CL) earned their first conference win. Connor Shaw kept the match scoreless through halftime. Goshen controlled the opening 45 minutes, outshooting the Trojans 10-3 and earning seven corner kicks, and Shaw answered with six first-half saves. The biggest came in the 34th minute, when he stopped a Goshen penalty kick to keep the match level.
The second half turned quickly. In the 53rd minute, Pedro Diegues headed home a second ball off service from the left wing. Three minutes later, David Hidalgo Muniain slipped a through ball to Kyle Phillip, who finished after the referee played advantage to double the lead. TU had the quick answer as Byrd met a deflected cross in the box and headed it home in the 57th minute, with assists credited to Caleb Van Dop and Edrick Mugisha, to cut the deficit to 2-1.
However, the TU momentum was quickly erased when GC’s Nicholas Whitaker sent an unassisted shot into the upper corner at the far post in the 58th minute, restoring the two-goal margin. The Trojans pressed for a second goal down the stretch, with Byrd sending a shot wide left in the 77th minute and forced a save from Matias Labbe in the 82nd, but Goshen held on. Goshen outshot TU 18-11, including 12-6 on goal, and held a 9-2 edge in corner kicks. Shaw finished with nine saves. Byrd led the Trojans with three shots, two on target, and Roarke Watterson also had three attempts. Van Dop put both of his shots on frame in addition to his assist. Phillip led Goshen with seven shots, four on goal, and Diegues added four shots on target. Labbe made five saves to earn the win. TU returns to action this afternoon when it travels to No. 20 Spring Arbor. Kickoff in Michigan is scheduled for 3 p.m. at the Cougar Soccer Complex.
