
Indiana University Football Lands Crown Point Tight End and Linebacker Trevor Gibbs for 2026 Crown Point, Ind. tight end and linebacker Trevor Gibbs announced his verbal commitment to Indiana at his high school Wednesday evening. The 6-foot-4 and 235-pound Gibbs chose IU over his five other finalists: Iowa, Purdue, Cincinnati and Boston College. “The best in Indiana play for Indiana,” he said in a commitment video released Wednesday. According to the On3 Industry average rankings, Gibbs is a 3-star, No. 778 overall, the No. 62 linebacker, and the No. 6 player in the state of Indiana. During his junior season, Gibbs hauled in 35 passes for 600 yards as a tight end while recording 60 tackles and three interceptions as a linebacker/edge rusher. He’ll probably play tight end in college and would be the first tight end commit for IU in the 2026 class. The Hoosiers already have two projected linebackers. Indiana now has eight verbal commits in the 2026 class. Gibbs is the third player from Indiana.
Indiana University Softball Defeats Washington to Advance to the Big Ten Tournament Quarterfinals No. 10 Seed Indiana took care of No. 7 Seed Washington in the opening round of the Big Ten Tournament on Wednesday afternoon, winning 2-0 at Bittinger Stadium in West Lafayette. Brianna Copeland led the Hoosiers in a complete game win. The senior had seven strikeouts and only gave up two hits. With the win, Indiana is now 33-17 on the season. In the bottom of the first with two runners on Washington’s Jade Bubke hit a ball to the wall in dead center where Melina Wilkison robbed the would-be home run at the fence to keep the score at 0-0. The Indiana defense held strong through the bottom of the second, finishing a three-up, three-down inning. The first out was when Taylor Minnick made a diving catch in left field. Copeland threw two-straight strikeouts to end the frame.
Indiana got the bats going in the top of the third when Alex Cooper tripled to right field. Two at bats later, Minnick lined out to second and as Washington tried to get Copeland out, Cooper took home to put Indiana up 1-0. Avery Parker started out the sixth inning with a crushed ball over the left center wall to extend Indiana’s lead to 2-0. Washington had the bases loaded with no outs in the bottom of the sixth before Indiana got out of the jam. Alycia Flores lined out to Madalyn Strader and then Strader dove to tag third base and complete the unassisted double play. Then, Copeland threw her seventh strikeout of the game to finish out the inning. Copeland’s win improved her season record to 17-7. Each of her last three wins have been complete-game efforts. Copeland only allowed two hits and had seven strikeouts in the shutout. This was the first game between Indiana and Washington as conference opponents in softball. Parker’s home run was her 11th of the season and 34th of her career. Indiana has won seven of its last nine Big Ten Tournament games.
Indiana University Women’s Golfers Madison Dabagia and Caroline Smith Close Historic Seasons at the NCAA Lexington Regional Redshirt senior Caroline Smith shot a 214 (74-72-68; -2) to tie for ninth place, while Junior Madison Dabagia shot a 220 (75-72-73; +4) to tie for 30th place at the 2025 NCAA Lexington Regional played from Monday through Wednesday at the Keene Trace Golf Club in Lexington Kentucky.
Redshirt senior Caroline Smith shot a 214 (74-72-68; -2) to tie for ninth place. Round 1: 74 (+2) with birdies on No. 5 and No. 13. Round 2: 72 (E) with birdies on No. 4 and No. 6 and an eagle on No. 3. Round 3: 68 (-4) with birdies on No. 2, No. 6, No. 7, and No. 14. Smith finished her final collegiate season with a stroke average of 73.09, the lowest mark in program history, across 34 rounds and 12 events. She played a team-best 15 rounds at or under par, earned six top 20 finishes, and placed inside the top 10 in a pair of events. Her Indiana career stroke average of 73.49 will rank second in program history.
Junior Madison Dabagia Shot a 220 (75-72-73; +4) to tie for 30th place. Round 1: 75 (+3) with birdies on No. 1 and No. 15. Round 2: 72 (E) with back-to-back birdies on No. 4 and No. 5. Round 3: 73 (+1) with a birdie on No. 12. Dabagia finished her debut season with the Hoosiers with a stroke average of 73.12, the second lowest mark in team history, while played 34 rounds in 12 tournaments. She played 12 rounds at or under par, finished top 20 in six events, and earned three top 10 finishes. Indiana will return to tournament action for the 2025-26 season.
Indiana Fever waive Rookie Yvonne Ejim The Indiana Fever waived forward Yvonne Ejim on Wednesday, the team announced. Ejim was a third-round pick (pick No. 33) in the 2025 WNBA Draft. She was a five-year player at Gonzaga and averaged 20.7 points and 9.3 rebounds per game in the 2024-25 season. She led the West Coast Conference in both categories. Ejim played 12 minutes in the Fever’s preseason game against the Brazilian National Team, scoring six points. She also played five minutes in the preseason game against the Mystics. Ejim is the third player the Fever waived this week. On Monday, Jillian Alleyne and Bree Hall were waived. Alleyne last played in the WNBA in 2021 with the Washington Mystics. Hall was selected in the second round (pick No. 20) in the 2025 WNBA Draft. She played four seasons at South Carolina, where she won two national championships. The Fever’s roster is now down to 12 players. The minimum roster size in the WNBA is 11 players, and teams can carry a maximum of 12 players on their roster. The Fever play its last preseason game on Saturday on the road against the Atlanta Dream. The Fever’s regular season tips off on Saturday, May 17 at home against the Chicago Sky.
Indy Ignite Places Two on the Pro Volleyball Federation All-League First Team After helping pave the way for an inaugural season 2025 PVF Championship berth for the Indy Ignite, two players are getting the recognition they deserve. Setter Sydney Hilley and opposite hitter Azhani Tealer were both named to the PVF All-League First Team just three days before they play in the semifinals of the playoffs. Over the course of Indy’s inaugural season, Hilley led the PVF in assists (1,277) and assists per set (11.30). “No doubt in my mind that Sydney makes our team better every day,” Ignite head coach George Padjen said. “Her thoughtfulness and professionalism, her ability to understand the game as it’s changing and evolving on the fly, is above all.”
Tealer scored the third-most points of anyone in the PVF this season (464) and also ranked third in kills-per-set average (4.22). “For Z (Tealer), making All-League being first year as a fulltime player is incredible,” Padjen said. “It shows her work ethic, her attention to detail, along with her God-given gifts of athleticism and speed and strength and power. Z is a world-class human who deserves this award 110%. I couldn’t be happier for her. Indianapolis Colts Sign Free Agent Linebacker Joe Bachie The Indianapolis Colts signed free agent linebacker Joe Bachie on Wednesday. Bachie, 6-2, 235 pounds, has played in 51 career games (two starts) in his time with the Cincinnati Bengals (2021-24), Philadelphia Eagles (2020) and New Orleans Saints (2020). He has compiled 37 tackles (23 solo), one pass defensed and 11 special teams stops. Bachie has appeared in three postseason contests and has registered one special teams’ tackle. He was originally signed by the Saints as an undrafted free agent on April 27, 2020, out of Michigan State. His last name is pronounced BAH-chee.
