Former Indiana University Player Mike Smith Added to the College Baseball Hall of Fame Mike Smith, one of the greatest players to ever wear an Indiana uniform, had his named etched into baseball history on Thursday afternoon. The former shortstop was elected to the Collegiate Baseball Hall of Fame class of 2026, the first IU player to be added to the illustrious group of players and coaches. An Ohio native, Smith was one of the most electric players in the entire country during the early 1990’s. He was named Big Ten Player of the Year in 1992, the first of four IU athletes to ever be honored with the award. During his outstanding senior season, he won the nation’s triple crown with a .490 batting average, 27 home runs and 95 RBIs. All three of those marks are still single-season records in the team’s record books. Over 30 years after leaving Bloomington, Smith is still top-10 in program history in hits (270), games played (219), home runs (47), triples (16), RBIs (185) and runs scored (202). He was named the 1992 National Player of the Year (NCBWA, Sporting News) and was a fifth-round draft pick of the Texas Rangers in that summer’s MLB Draft. Smith, and the rest of the 2026 cohort, will be honored February 10-11, 2026, in Overland Park, Kansas at the College Baseball Hall of Fame induction ceremony.

Andrean and Guerin Catholic to Battle for the Class 3A Baseball State Championship Andrean and Guerin Catholic will battle for the IHSAA Class 3A State Championship this afternoon at Victory Field in Indianapolis at 4:30 PM. No team in IHSAA baseball history has a resume quite like Andrean. The 59ers (30-3) are making their state-record 12th appearance in the 3A championship since 2004, and they’re looking to win back-to-back titles for a fourth time – something no other Indiana school has done more than once. Their previous titles came in 2005, 2009, 2010, 2014, 2015, 2018, 2019, 2022, and 2025. Their postseason road included wins over #10 New Prairie and #5 DeKalb, and they arrive at Victory Field with a championship pedigree that simply doesn’t exist anywhere else in the state.
Guerin Catholic is making its first trip to the baseball state finals and is seeking the school’s second state title this school year, with boys’ soccer having won it all last fall. The Golden Eagles (27-3-1) have been dominant in the postseason, allowing just six total runs across six games. In semi-state, they shut out #12 Providence behind a nine-strikeout complete game from Alabama commit Tate Troxell, then held off #4 Gibson Southern 4-2 in the final. Offensively, three Division I commits lead the way. Ian Taylor (George Mason) has nine home runs and a .593 on-base percentage. Carson Kail (Dayton) is batting .432, and Ben Canada (Northwestern) leads the team with 37 hits.
Kouts and Northeast Dubois to Battle for the Class 1A Baseball State Championship Kouts and Guerin Catholic will battle for the Class 1A State Championship game at Victory Field in Indianapolis Tonight at 8 PM. Kouts capped its 2025 season with the program’s first state finals appearance, ending with a loss to Indianapolis Lutheran. They then dropped their first game of the 2026 season to Guerin Catholic. Since then? Thirty-one straight wins.
The Mustangs (31-1) have been nearly unstoppable, outscoring opponents 60-6 in the playoffs with top-10 wins over #7 Morgan Township and #10 Rossville. The player to watch is sophomore Billy Miller, who leads the team in virtually every offensive category and is even more impressive on the mound with a 0.42 ERA and 83 strikeouts in 49.2 innings pitched.
Northeast Dubois is making its first trip to the baseball state finals and will try to bring home the school’s first-ever state title. The Jeeps (23-5) knocked out #9 Shakamak in regionals, then dispatched #13 Greenwood Christian and #11 Hauser at semi-state to punch their ticket. The Jeep to watch is junior Sam Beck, who is batting .470 with seven home runs.
Former Indy Car Rookie of the Year Linus Lundquist Gets New Role with Honda Racing Race car driver Linus Lundqvist found success during his first full season in the NTT IndyCar Series. He drove for Chip Ganassi Racing during the 2024 season after driving for Meyer Shank Racing for three races during the 2023 season. Lundqvist finished 28th during the 2024 Indianapolis 500 after crashing on lap 28. Despite being named 2024 Rookie of the Year, he did not get a ride for the 2025 NTT IndyCar Series season, nor did he land a seat for the 2026 NTT IndyCar Series season. On Wednesday though, Honda Racing Corporation (HRC) announced that Lundqvist will be the HRC Driver-In-The-Loop (DIL) Simulator Development Driver. HRC hopes that Lundqvists’ “expertise will help us create an HRC DIL sim experience more closely aligned with the on-track product in IndyCar racing. His speed, technical feedback and experience as a Honda-powered driver make him a valuable addition to our development program,” according to a news release. Lundqvist posted on X following the announcement on Wednesday. “Excited and proud (to) join the HRC family!” Lundqvist said in the post. “Let’s get to work!” The 2026 NTT IndyCar Series season continues this weekend with the XPEL Grand Prix at Road America.
