Former Indiana University Football Player Pat Coogan Signs His Rookie Contract with the Tennessee Titans The Tennessee Titans had a busy day on Thursday, hiring a new scout, signing 11 undrafted rookie free agents, and making progress with their 2026 draft class, inking five to their initial rookie contracts. The Titans signed fifth-round picks, Arkansas guard Fernando Carmona (142) and Penn State running back Nick Singleton (165), sixth-round picks, Baylor defensive tackle Jackie Marshall and Indiana center Pat Coogan, and seventh-round pick Oklahoma tight end Jaren Kanak (225) to their slotted rookie contracts. With these five players locked up, the front office can turn its attention to their three remaining draft picks, Ohio State wide receiver Carnell Tate (first round), Auburn edge Keldric Faulk (first round), and Texas linebacker Anthony Hill Jr. (second round). These contracts are also slotted, but there are usually a few more details to work out, especially with Hill. For the past few seasons, second-round draft picks have been slow to sign because of the percentage of guaranteed money in the final year of their contracts. The Titans hosted all of their rookies for the rookie minicamp that started yesterday and concludes today at Vanderbilt Health Football Center in Nashville.
Former Indiana University Men’s Basketball Player Jason Drake Transfers to Temple Former Indiana Hoosier guard Jason Drake committed to Temple, the program announced Thursday afternoon. He spent one season with the Hoosiers but did not play due to an injury and has two seasons of eligibility remaining. Drake started his career at Cleveland State as a freshman for the 2022-23 season. He played 16 games and averaged 5.6 minutes. He spent 2023-24 with Butler Community College and put up 9.6 points and 3.7 assists in 27 games. The 6-foot, 1-inch guard transferred back to Division I for the 2024-25 season and joined Drexel. Drake started all 33 games for the Dragons and averaged 11.1 points and 3.1 assists on 42.8% shooting from the field and 39.6% from three. Drake transferred to Indiana for the 2025-26 season but sustained a lower-body injury before the first game and never made an appearance. He is the fourth transfer the Owls have landed, joining guards Dez White, Dallis Dillard and forward Baboucarr Njie.
The Indianapolis Motor Speedway Releases Pictures of the Pace Car Curt Cignetti Will Drive for the Indianapolis 500 Curt Cignetti has turned down a lot of speaking engagements and appearances offered since he led Indiana to the national championship. But he couldn’t say no to driving the pace car at the Indy 500. “It’s a great event, and it’s part of the fabric of the state,” Cignetti Said. “I can remember watching the Indy 500 growing up. I just hope I can handle it.”
The car Cignetti will be handling is a Corvette ZR1x, known as America’s quickest production car. “America’s hypercar will be front and center at the Indianapolis 500, and it has the speed to stay there,” Global Corvette and Performance Cars Team Executive Chief Engineer Tony Roma said in a release. “The ZR1X is made for the racetrack. This Corvette, inspired by America’s 250th anniversary, will absolutely give Coach Cignetti and the fans a thrill.”
The Corvette ZR1X delivers 1,250 horsepower across all four wheels, combining a 186-hp electric motor on the front axle with a 5.5L twin-turbo V8 putting 1,064 hp to the rear wheels. For Pace Car duty, the ZR1X is equipped with the Carbon Aero package, including dive planes on the front bumper, underbody aero strakes and the rear wing, which creates more than 1,200 pounds of downforce at top speed. The Corvette ZR1X achieves incredible acceleration – capable of zero to 60 mph in under 2 seconds – and can reach 233 mph, approaching speeds seen by race cars in the field.
Cignetti was asked last month what was the fastest he has driven a car. “I can’t tell you the truth,” Cignetti playfully responded. … “I would not be setting a good example for the young people. “But I bought a new Audi SQ8 the first summer I was employed here (at IU) from down the road there, and that thing has got a lot of horsepower in it. One night within the first couple weeks that we owned it, my wife and I were returning from Ohio to see our son and there was nobody on the highway. I laid it down pretty quick; it’s got a little juice in it. “But I’m going to put the pedal to the metal when they tell me to in Indy.” The 110th Running of the Indianapolis 500 is scheduled for Sunday, May 24, 2026.
Three Indiana University Football Players Appear in the First Round of 2027 NFL Mock Drafts After no first-round picks for more than 30 years, could IU football see multiple first round selections in back-to-back years? Could the Hoosiers tie or break records just set in 2026 with two or even three first round selections in the 2027 NFL Draft? There’s a long way to go to next year’s draft, and much will change between now and then. So, chalk this up to pure entertainment at this point. But here’s what some outlets are thinking as it relates to IU football players one year out from the 2027 NFL Draft. Three players on the 2026 Indiana team are regulars in various way-too-early 2027 mock drafts published since the conclusion of the 2026 edition.
The Athletic’s Dane Brugler has wide receiver Charlie Becker going at No. 11, and his fellow Hoosier wideout Nick Marsh at No. 20. PFF has left tackle Carter Smith going No. 18. CBS Sports has Charlie Becker going No. 32. USA Today has Nick Marsh going No. 23. FOX Sports has Carter Smith going No. 13. Sports Illustrated has three Hoosiers going in the first round, with Carter Smith going No. 25, Charlie Becker No. 26, and Nick Marsh No. 32. NBC Sports also has three Hoosiers in the first round, with Carter Smith going No. 26, Nick Marsh going No. 28, and Charlie Becker going No. 31. And Bleacher Report has Nick Marsh going No. 11 and Charlie Becker at No. 18. So if you’re keeping score at home, in eight mock drafts, Becker and Marsh appear in five, and Smith appears in four.
After IU quarterback Fernando Mendoza went No. 1 overall in 2026, and Kurtis Rourke was drafted in 2025, it’s reasonable to wonder if Josh Hoover will be the third-straight Hoosier quarterback to be drafted. Hoover didn’t appear in any first round mock 2027 NFL Draft we surveyed. But to be fair, Mendoza was not a projected first-rounder at this time last year either. ESPN conducted a poll of 10 NFL scouts for their way-too-early top three quarterback projections for the 2027 NFL Draft. Nine quarterbacks received a vote, but Hoover was not one of them. Oregon’s Dante Moore, Texas’ Arch Manning, and Ohio State’s Julian Sayin led the way in the ESPN survey.
Can IU meet or exceed the eight total players drafted in 2026 next year? Beyond Becker, Marsh and Smith, here are some of the other top contenders to hear their names called at some point in the 2027 NFL Draft: Running back Turbo Richard, Guard/Center Drew Evans, Guard Joe Brunner, Defensive tackle Tyrique Tucker, Defensive end Tobi Osunsanmi, Defensive end Chiddi Obiazor, Linebacker Isaiah Jones, Linebacker Rolijah Hardy, Safety Amare Ferrell, Cornerback A.J. Harris and Cornerback Jamari Sharpe.
