
Indiana University Softball Defeats Purdue to Clinch Series on Saturday Indiana kept up its winning ways with a 5-1 win over Purdue on Saturday to clinch the rivalry series, 2-0. The win marked the third-straight victory for the Hoosiers and put them at the 30-win mark in 2026. Indiana is now 30-10 for the season and 9-5 in Big Ten play. Anna Moore homered to right field to put Purdue up 1-0 in the top of the first. Josie Bird singled down the third base line to bring Aly VanBrandt in for the Hoosiers to tie the game in the bottom of the first, 1-1. VanBrandt singled to left center to bring Brooke Mannon and Cassidy Kettleman to put the Hoosiers up 3-1 in the bottom of the second.
Taylor Hess relieved Aubree Hooks in the circle in the top of the third for Indiana. Kettleman was hit by pitch with the bases loaded to put Indiana’s lead to 4-1 in the bottom of the third. In the next at bat, VanBrandt hit a sacrifice fly to left to bring in Ellie Goins putting Indiana up 5-1 in the third. Indiana pulled off a 6-4-3 double play to end the top of the fourth. Cassidy Kettleman laid out to snag the final out of the game in the top of the seventh, making a diving catch in left field to secure the series victory. Indiana has recorded four-straight 30-win seasons. Aly VanBrandt added three RBIs to bring her season total to 48. Madalyn Strader was 3-for-4 at the plate. In 4.2 innings of work, Hess only allowed one hit and struck out six to improve her record to 7-2 for the season.
Former Indiana University Women’s Basketball Star Mackenize Holmes Resigns with the Seattle Storm Former Indiana University Women’s Basketball Star Mackenzie Holmes has resigned with the Seattle Storm return following appearances on the Storm’s 2025 roster. Per team policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed. Last season, Holmes was signed as a free agent on June 16, after being released from the Storm following training camp. She was selected by the Storm at No. 26 in the third round of the 2024 WNBA Draft and missed the 2024 season after undergoing a procedure on her knee. The rookie forward made an appearance in 10 games throughout the 2025 regular season, averaging 5.8 minutes of playing time. The Indiana University graduate finished her collegiate career ranked first in four categories: the program’s all-time leading scorer (2,530), field goals made (1,043), field goal percentage (63.9) and wins (123). During her five seasons in Bloomington, she earned eight All-American selections, including a standout 2024 campaign in which she was named a unanimous All-Big Ten First Team selection and earned All-Big Ten Defensive Team, USBWA and AP All-America honors.
Indiana University Women’s Tennis takes down #53 Penn State Indiana women’s tennis (14-8, 4-6 B1G) pushed past No.53 ranked Penn State (12-9, 3-7 B1G), finding strength in singles play after being down 0-3 on Saturday afternoon at the IU Outdoor Tennis Center in Bloomington, Ind. Play came down to junior Elisabeth Dunac at court No.3 to seal the 4-3 upset for the Hoosiers. The match came down to the grit of Dunac, who used her third set as a game tie-breaker to help IU take the victory in a crucial conference match up (7-5, 0-6, 6-1). Penn State took the early lead after securing the first point at doubles No. 2 and No.1. The Nittany Lions kept this momentum through the beginning of singles play, taking down freshman Alessandra Teodosescu at court No.1 (6-3,6-4) and senior Nicole Teodosescu at court No.4 (6-1-6-1) to make it a three-point advantage.
Despite the 0-3 deficit, four courts still remained with opportunity for a Hoosier comeback. Sophomore Nicole Sifuenetes started the rally at court No.6 when she overcame Brianna Baldi of PSU at court No.6 to add the first point on the board for the home team (3-1). Indiana took control of the courts after Sifuentes led the way, with freshman Ameia Sorey finding power in her final two sets, clinching a win of her own at court No. 2 (2-6, 6-1, 6-2) to make it just a one-point advantage for Penn State. Freshman Hi’ilani Williams took the first set against Maria Ciubotaru. After dropping the second, she took back the match in set three (6-3, 2-6, 6-2) and tied the contest three-all (3-3).
Indiana University Women’s Water Polo beats San Jose State to Advance to the Fifth Place Game Junior Olivia Harris set a season-high four goals as No. 12 (6-seed) Indiana advanced to the MPSF Championship fifth-place game with a 14-11 win over No. 19 (7-seed) SJSU on Saturday at Spieker Aquatic Center in Berkley, California. The Hoosiers (16-10) got on the board first in a back-and-forth first quarter as a drawn exclusion led to the 6-on-5 opportunity for junior Gwenyth Le who skipped the shot into the goal. Junior Olivia Harris pushed the lead to 2-0 before the Spartans responded with three-straight goals.
Both teams answered each other’s call late in the frame to take a 4-4 tie into the second. Harris and freshman Kylie Williams gave Indiana a brief lead at 6-5 in the second. SJSU would score a pair including one with 45 seconds to go in the first half to take a 7-6 lead at the break. Indiana used a six-goal third quarter to finally break out of the tie game on a Klingler goal at the 3:17 mark. It would go on to secure a two-goal edge leading to the fourth as Harris completed her hat trick in the frame. The largest lead of the day, a three-goal lead, highlighted the fourth quarter as the Cream and Crimson defense was able to hold off the Spartans down the stretch.
Indiana wins both meetings against SJSU this season, as it also picked up the 14-12 win in San Jose on March 20. Harris paced the Hoosiers with a season-high four goals on six shots and an assist, steal and field block. She tied senior Louisa Downes with five points in the game as she recorded a season-high five assists on the afternoon. Senior goalie Jasmine Higgs led in the cage with nine saves and a steal. Williams finished the day with a pair of goals, an assist and team-high two drawn exclusions.
Indiana Fever Re-Sign Guard Lexie Hull The Indiana Fever have been staying busy so far at the start of WNBA free agency. One of the moves the team announced on Saturday as the re-signing of guard Lexie Hull. According to multiple reports, Hull is signing a multi-year deal with the team. Hull has played for the Fever throughout her WNBA career. This upcoming season will be her fifth in the league and fifth with the franchise. “Ensuring Lexie’s return was a high priority for us,” Fever Chief Operating Officer and General Manager Amber Cox said in a press release. “She represents the heart of our team, and that was never more evident than in our playoff run last season. She impacts every aspect of the game on both ends of the floor and is a vital member of our core group. We are thrilled to have her back in a Fever uniform.”
Hull is coming off the best season of her career. She averaged 7.2 points and 4.3 rebounds per game. Hull played a key role in helping the Fever advance to the WNBA semifinal round of the playoffs last year. “Indy has been my home over the last four years, and there was no other place I could imagine playing right now,” Hull said in the press release. “We still have unfinished business, and I’m so excited to continue building on all that we accomplished last season. I instantly fell in love with the fans during my rookie season and I’ve grown so much during my time here, both in our locker room and in the community. I’m a West Coast girl turned Midwesterner, and I’m ready to do everything I can to bring another WNBA championship to Indianapolis.” Hull was picked sixth overall by the Fever in the 2022 WNBA Draft. She has played in 134 career regular season games with the franchise.
Indiana Fever Sign Free Agent Monique Billings for the 2026 Season The Indiana Fever has signed eight-year WNBA veteran forward Monique Billings ahead of the 2026 season. “Mo is a dynamic player on both sides of the ball, who adds a unique dimension to our frontcourt,” said Fever COO and General Manager Amber Cox. “Her ability to run the floor fits perfectly with the way we want to play, and her versatility will impact us in a big way on the defensive end.”
“Fit is one of the most important things in the WNBA, so finding an organization that made me feel wanted and valued was a big factor during this process. At this point in my career, having fun while playing basketball is also very important to me, and Indiana checked all of the boxes,” Billings said. “I’m looking forward to building off a fruitful offseason including the synergy I gained playing with both Kelsey Mitchell and Caitlin Clark during that time, meeting the rest of my teammates and, of course, the fans. Let’s get busy, Indy!” Billings, 29, comes to Indiana following a one-year stint with 2025 WNBA expansion side Golden State Valkyries where she appeared in 26 games, averaging 7.3 points per game and a told of 21 blocks and 16 steals. Before making her way to Golden State, Billings spent time with the Atlanta Dream (2018-23), Dallas Wings (2024) and Phoenix Mercury (2024). Across her career, Billings has appeared in 239 games and has averaged 6.3 points per game and 5.6 rebounds per game.
Billings has spent extensive time playing overseas, including in Australia (Townsville Fire), China (Guangdong and Heilongjiang), Israel (Elitzer Ramia), Russia (Dynamo Kursk and Nadezhda Orenburg), South Korea (Asan Woori Bank Wibee) and Turkey (Besiktas and Fenerbache). Additionally, Billings competed this past offseason in Unrivaled where she was teammates with Fever guard Kelsey Mitchell. Billings made her senior national team debut in April of this year, playing with the United States as a member of the 2026 Women’s World Cup Qualifying Team, helping the team to a 5-0 record while averaging 6.4 points per game and 3.2 rebounds per game. Billings was also recently part of the April USA Basketball training camp in Phoenix, Ariz. While with the USA, Billings was coached by Indiana Fever Head Coach Stephanie White who served as an assistant for the United States, while also playing alongside Caitlin Clark in the qualifying tournament in Puerto Rico. At the collegiate level, Billings spent four years as a member of the UCLA Bruins, averaging 13.5 points per game and 8.2 rebounds per game in 141 games. Billings will wear No. 25 for the Fever.
Four-Game Sweep of Goshen Gives No. 1 Taylor University Baseball 20 Consecutive Wins No. 1 Taylor scored 14 runs in each game of Saturday’s doubleheader, defeating Goshen 14-4 in eight innings and 14-2 in seven to complete a four-game sweep and push its winning streak to 20 games. The Trojans (38-3, 26-2 CL) have now scored 11 or more runs in 12 consecutive games and reached 20 straight victories for the first time since 2011, when TU won a program-record 24 in a row. The streak topped last season’s 18-game run and moved TU to 20 road wins on the year, a mark the program hasn’t reached since 2010.
Fletcher Roemmich headlined the opener (1 for 4, HR, 3 RBIs) with a two-run homer to left in the eighth that put the finishing touches on the win. Jace Schrock drove in three-on-three sacrifice flies, Brennan Frickel doubled in two (1 for 4, 2B, 2 RBIs) and Sam Gladd added a pair of RBIs (1 for 3, 2 RBIs). Luke Sutter recorded two hits (2 for 6, RBI). Ben Kennedy was the star of the nightcap (3 for 4, 2B, 4 RBIs), delivering his fourth three-hit game of the season. Kennedy singled home a run in the first, drove in another in the second, then ripped a two-run double to left center in the third to stretch the lead to 11-1. He has now reached safely in 24 consecutive games.
Goshen grabbed a 1-0 lead in the opener when Chase Smith scored on a groundout in the first, but TU answered with a five-run second fueled by two Goshen errors and a pair of singles from Sutter and Jordan Malott. Schrock’s sacrifice fly tied the game at 1-1, Roemmich drew an RBI walk, and the Trojans kept the line moving to take a 5-1 lead. Frickel’s two-run double in the sixth extended the lead to 8-2 before Gladd added a sacrifice fly and Schrock delivered another sac fly to make it 10-2. Goshen pulled within 10-4 in the bottom of the sixth on an RBI walk from Smith and a wild pitch. Hunter Doran slammed the door with 2.1 scoreless innings and four strikeouts. TU tacked on two in the seventh and Roemmich’s homer in the eighth closed it out at 14-4. Sophomore right-hander Lane Lewis made his first start of the season and second of his career in the opener, working four innings of one-run ball on just 56 pitches to improve to 3-0.
TU jumped ahead early in Game 2, plating four in the first on an RBI single from Malott, an RBI fielder’s choice from Frickel, an RBI single from Kennedy and a sacrifice fly from Schrock. Aidan Calvey answered with a solo homer for Goshen, but it was 9-1 after two innings. Freshman right-hander JT Tabor improved to 5-0, the most wins by a TU freshman since Gabel Pentecost posted six in 2023, with four innings of one-run ball, striking out five with just one walk. Nathan Frady worked two innings, and Brayden Stevenson closed it with a perfect seventh, striking out the side. Roemmich extended his streak of reaching base in every game this season and now carries an eight-game hitting streak along with a career-high eight home runs.
Frickel has reached safely in every game in which he has had a plate appearance, and Sutter has reached in 14 straight with his 21st multi-hit effort of the season. Brayden Manning has reached safely in 20 consecutive outings, and Malott has hit safely in eight straight with 60 RBIs on the season, tying for the Crossroads League lead. Schrock has driven in a run in seven of his last eight appearances. TU has swept all but one CL series this season and hasn’t dropped a conference series in five years across 44 straight matchups. The Trojans are closing in on last season’s record finish in the regular season (41-8). Top-ranked TU returns home on Friday-Saturday, April 17-18, to host cross-county rival Indiana Wesleyan (26-15, 19-9 CL) for a pair of doubleheaders at Winterholter Field.
