Indiana under Cignetti has won 17 of their 19 games by double digits. The Hoosiers are 13-1 in the Big Ten and 11 of those are by double digits and from 2014-23 the Hoosiers won 10 Big Ten games from double digits and 14-0 at home and the Hoosiers continue to roll along entering the home stretch of the regular season and looking towards the Big Ten Championship Game and the College Football Playoff.

Fernando Mendoza has completed 73 percent of his passes throwing for 1,923 yards 24 touchdown passes, 3 Interceptions and being sacked 6 times. The Miami native has completed 148 of his 203 passes as the buzz continues for his case for College Football’s highest honor the Heisman Trophy. Mendoza has carried the ball 46 times for 196 yards with 3 touchdowns. The offensive line has done a great job protecting Mendoza and credit goes to Offensive Line Coach Bob Bostad who was here when Tom Allen was Head Coach. Curt Cignetti mentioned in his Monday Media Session that “It’s Huge” the impact Bostad has, and he was fired up when he saw he was in the previous staff and was excited to be able to retain him.  Elijah Sarratt and Omar Cooper Jr have been a 1-2 combo at Wide Receiver. Sarratt has 45 receptions for 609 yards and 10 touchdowns. Cooper Jr has 39 receptions for 583 yards and 7 Touchdowns. Aiden Fisher who was injured against UCLA is probable for Saturday’s game has 20 solo tackles and 2.5 sacks and a pick six that got on the second play from scrimmage against the Bruins.  The Hoosiers have 29 sacks, 11 interceptions and 2 fumble recoveries.  The Hoosiers motto is “Fast, Physical, Relentless” and they have lived up to that motto.

Maryland is 4-3 on the season and 1-3 in the Big Ten. Maryland beat Wisconsin 27-10 in Madison on September 20 and three conference losses to Washington, Nebraska and UCLA have been by a combined 10 points. The Terrapins have scored 198 points for an average of 28.3 points per game. He has an overall record of 39-70 and 17-43 in the Big Ten and took Maryland to three straight bowl appearances from 2021-23 winning all three of them.

Indiana leads the all-time series 8-5 and 6-5 as Big Ten opponents since Maryland joined the Big Ten in 2014. Indiana won last year’s meeting 42-28 in Bloomington with Roman Hemby scoring a touchdown for Maryland now he is a Hoosier, and he will look to do the same against the team that he once played for. Freshman Defensive Back Byron Baldwin Jr is from Baltimore along Hemby and Wyatt return to their home state. Elijah Sarratt, who is from Virginia, played at Saint Frances Academy in Baltimore which is the same school as Baldwin. The Hoosiers have not let off the gas pedal all season and their remaining opponents after this week which are Penn State, Wisconsin and Purdue have zero conference wins entering this Saturday’s games. This game will hit different for some including Hemby and Wyatt but as Curt Cignetti says it’s the most important game and the next game on the schedule and the focus and preparation remains the same go 1-0 each week.

The Patriots last sectional title came in 2017 when the finished 6-6.  The Patriots have been outscored 420-42 and enter the sectional with a 12-game losing streak. Terre Haute South posted two shutouts this season including a 23-0 win over Bloomington North at home on September 5th. The Panthers are ranked fourth in and the Braves tied for 10th with Plainfield in Class 5A. Plainfield won at Terre Haute South 31-7 in the season opener.  Many expects it to be an all-Bloomington Sectional Championship next Friday. It would be a stunner if Bloomington North would fall to Terre Haute North and rushing combo of Townsend and Cooper maybe two much for the Braves once again but as they always say no matter the sport it is hard to be a team twice in the same season.

Indiana Hoosiers Men’s Soccer Head North for Halloween Conference Clash with Northwestern Indiana men’s soccer (11-4-1, 4-4-0 B1G) hunts for a crucial three points in its penultimate Big Ten Conference match tonight at Northwestern (6-5-3, 1-4-2 B1G). Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. ET on Northwestern Medicine Field at Martin Stadium. Fans can watch the match on the B1G+ digital platform. With two games remaining in the regular season, Indiana controls its destiny regarding qualification for the four-team Big Ten Tournament. With wins at Northwestern tonight and versus Rutgers next week, the Hoosiers would automatically clinch a spot in the conference semifinal. On top of conference tournament goals, positive results will strengthen IU’s already glowing NCAA Tournament resume, highlighted by a No. 4 ranking in the RPI, three victories against ranked opponents and four Quad 1 victories.

Indiana leans on its high-powered attack, producing 2.6 goals per game and leading the conference in scoring with 41 goals this season – matching, in 16 games, what it totaled in 22 games last season. Chicagoland has produced some of the Indiana program’s greatest players and continues to provide a hotbed for Hoosier talent, as seven members of the 2025 team call the metro area their first home: Alex Barger (Naperville), Luka Bezerra (Chicago), Easton Bogard (Oak Park), Charlie Heuer (Elmhurst), Michael Nesci (Chicago), Owen Sloan (Lake Forest) and Seth Stewart (Oswego).

Northwestern owns a 6-5-3 record on the year but has done relatively well at home, earning a 4-2-2 mark at Martin Stadium. In Big Ten Conference play, the Wildcats have managed a victory against Rutgers (1-0) and draws with Michigan State (0-0) and Penn State (2-2). Head coach Russell Payne leads the Wildcats in his fifth season, sporting a 34-34-15 record during his time in Evanston, and a 103-119-46 career mark over 16 seasons as a head coach. Indiana has historically dominated the series with Northwestern, winning 37 of the 48 meetings. The Hoosiers won the first 20 matchups between 1983-2003 as well as six of the last seven. Indiana celebrated winning a share of the Big Ten regular season title last season with a 6-1 victory over Northwestern in Bloomington. Indianapolis Colts Running Back Johnthan Taylor Named the AFC Offensive Player of the Month for October Indianapolis Colts running back Jonathan Taylor was named the AFC Offensive Player of the Month in October. This is the third time he has been named player of the month in his career. He won it in back-to-back months in October and November in 2021. In October, Taylor had 66 carries for 436 yards and nine touchdowns. He added 12 receptions for 93 yards and a touchdown in the passing game. He led the NFL in total touchdowns and rushing touchdowns in October and was second in scrimmage yards and rushing yards. Taylor has been gaining steam in the NFL MVP conversation as well, as he leads the league in rushing yards by nearly 100 yards and in rushing touchdowns by three.

On Thursday, he was asked if it would mean something to win the MVP, to which he responded, “Of course.: “You’re just talking about the guys who have won it before,” Taylor said. “I don’t know anybody who wouldn’t want to have that under their belt.” There has not been a running back to win the award since Adrian Peterson in 2012. Only four running backs have won the award since 2000, with LaDainian Tomlinson, Shaun Alexander, and Marshall Faulk being the other three winners. Every other NFL MVP in that timespan has been a quarterback. “Those are legends,” Taylor said. “Those are guys who set the path for us. We’re just trying to follow along their footsteps to create a new path to finish it, for the guys behind us to take it to new heights.” Taylor is the second Colts player to win Player of the Month this season, joining kicker Spencer Shrader, who was the AFC Special Teams Player of the Month in September. This is the first time a Colts player has been named AFC Offensive Player of the Month since Taylor did in November 2021. The Colts have won four straight games and have the best record in the NFL. They go on the road to play the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday, with kickoff scheduled for 1 p.m.
