Indianapolis Officer shot while being attacked by man he was helping
<\/strong>An unnamed Indianapolis Police Officer is now at home recovering after being shot over the weekend with his own weapon during an altercation over the weekend. The Officer was performing a welfare check on an individual said to be suffering from a \u201cmental crisis\u201d and considering suicide. In the midst of the Officer de-escalating the situation and awaiting upon an ambulance, the man allegedly thrusted toward the Officer and attempted to remove his weapon from its holster. During the struggle, the weapon discharged, injuring both individuals. The suspect is currently in the hospital with a hand injury, while the officer was released after having the bullet graze his leg. Preliminary charges include, battery on a police officer, criminal recklessness, disarming a law enforcement officer, and resisting law enforcement. IMPD Internal Affairs will investigate because an Officer\u2019s weapon was discharged.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bloomington 4th<\/sup> Street Parking Garage opens today
<\/strong>The replacement Fourth Street Garage will be open for parking today with parking for more than 500 vehicles (with dedicated spaces for accessible, compact, and electric vehicles) and a covered bicycle depot. The structure will house commercial\/retail space, public bathrooms, and City Parking Management offices; and activate adjacent pedestrian plazas on its southern and western sides. The City will host a public event to dedicate the facility this fall upon completion of all components. Integral to the architectural design, custom artwork comprising almost 9,000 aluminum panels will be installed across its facade. Local Firefighters receive airport rescue training
<\/strong>Monroe Fire Protection District and Monroe County Airport performed Airport Rescue Fire Fighting training and testing on last week in which firefighters used different scenarios that rescue personnel might experience. Approximately 20 firefighters from the Monroe Fire Protection District took part in the training, and were trained in ARFF truck operation, aircraft fire suppression, victim rescue, ventilation, and aircraft familiarization. This training makes firefighters more capable, confident, and able to handle these low-frequency but high-risk incidents. Aircraft emergencies are broken down into three categories which are defined by the FAA.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
