Indiana finished the regatta with 158 points, 18 points ahead of fifth place Ohio State. IU&#8217;s top boats, the Varsity Eight and Second Varsity Eight, led the way, each finishing fourth in the two top-scoring grand finals. Washington won the title in its first Big Ten Championships, sweeping the events and earning 264 points. Three Hoosiers earned All-Big Ten awards. Senior\u00a0Annabel Oerte<a href=\"https:\/\/iuhoosiers.com\/sports\/womens-rowing\/roster\/annabel-oertel\/19719\">l<\/a>\u00a0and sophomore\u00a0Lilly Murphy\u00a0earned first-team honors, while sophomore\u00a0Nico Daly\u00a0received a second-team selection. Oertel and Daly are both now two-time All-Big Ten honorees. Senior\u00a0Lily Haupt\u00a0was Indiana&#8217;s Big Ten Sportsmanship Award winner. Indiana will find out this afternoon at 5 PM if has earned a bid to what would be a fourth consecutive NCAA Championships. The Big Ten has sent at least four programs to the national regatta nine of the last 10 seasons (not counting the canceled 2020 regatta).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>TEAM STANDINGS<br>1. Wisconsin &#8211; 53 <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Six Indiana University Track and Field Athletes score in Six Events on the Final Day of the Big Ten Outdoor Track and Field Championships <\/strong>                                     Indiana track and field completed the final day of the Big Ten Outdoor Championship from Hayward Field on Sunday. The Hoosiers point earners in six separate events to close the final day of competition. Day three started on the runway for the women&#8217;s triple jump.\u00a0Kelly Moran\u00a0saw a personal best mark of 12.33m\/40-5.5 in her performance. The 4&#215;100 quartet of\u00a0Novo Onovwerosuoke,\u00a0Tamer Saleh,\u00a0Christian Woodson, and\u00a0Trelee Banks-Rose\u00a0was the first podium finish of the day. Their time of 29.79 earned a sixth-place finish. Makayla Hunter\u00a0saw massive improvement from the shot put. Her personal best distance of 17.15m\/56-3.25 landed her a seventh-place podium finish.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>After advancing to the finals,&nbsp;Trelee Banks-Rose&nbsp;took home the bronze medal in the 100-meter dash with his time of 10.26. Veronica Hargrave&nbsp;followed suit and ran 2:04.67 in the 800 to land the silver medal.  In his third event of the day, Banks placed fifth in the 200-meter dash with a time of 20.63.  The 5,000 saw personal bests from&nbsp;Tony Provenzano&nbsp;(14:00.64) and&nbsp;Katelyn Winton&nbsp;(16:24.50) in their respective races.  The men&#8217;s 4&#215;400 team of&nbsp;Cameron Mullens,&nbsp;Tamer Saleh,&nbsp;CJ Martin, and&nbsp;Daquan Tate&nbsp;landed the final podium appearance for the Hoosiers. Their season-best time of 3:09.18 was best for an eight-place finish. Indiana finished 13th in the Men&#8217;s Standings with 29 Points and 15th in the Women&#8217;s Standings with 12 Points. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Devin Taylor Named a Golden Spikes Award Semifinalist  <\/strong>                                                                                                                                                    Junior outfielder\u00a0Devin Taylor, who is wrapping up an illustrious college career at Indiana, was named as a Golden Spikes Semifinalist, as announced by the organization on Sunday afternoon. He is one of 25 players named to the list in the entire country. The Golden Spikes award is one of the nation&#8217;s most prestigious individual awards, handed out annually to the best player in College Baseball. Charlie Condon (Georgia) and Dylan Crews (LSU) won the past two editions of the award in 2024 and 2023 respectively.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Taylor has been the face of IU&#8217;s program over the past three seasons and has been a part of 107 wins during his time in Bloomington. On the season, he&#8217;s hitting .366 with 16 home runs, 60 RBIs, 13 doubles and 61 runs scored. Taylor is also one of the best at taking free passes, ranking inside the top five of the Big Ten with 51 walks.  In his career, Taylor ranks top 10 in program history in home runs (52), RBIs (173), runs scored (189), walks (124) and slugging percentage (.664). He&#8217;s a two-time First Team All-Big Ten selection and is likely to make it three-consecutive years when conference honors are released Today.  Taylor is just the fourth Golden Spikes semifinalist from IU since the award began tracking the honor in 2009.&nbsp;Eric Arnett&nbsp;(2009),&nbsp;Josh Phegley&nbsp;(2009) and&nbsp;Sam Travis&nbsp;(2014) join Taylor (2025) in an illustrious group of players in program history. Phegley and Travis went on to play in the big leagues while Arnett was a first-round draft pick.  The Cincinnati, Ohio will aim to be the first finalist for the Golden Spikes Award in program history. Fan voting, which factors into the decision for the three finalists, will run from May 18-28. The organization releases the three finalists in June during the NCAA Tournament.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Robert Shwartzman Wins the Pole for the Indianapolis 500 <\/strong>                                                                                                                                                                  Robert Shwartzman won pole for the 2025 Indianapolis 500. The Indianapolis 500 is the first oval race that Shwartzman will ever drive in. He\u2019s the first rookie to win pole for the Indy 500 since 1983. He\u2019s also the first Israeli driver to win pole for the Indy 500. Shwartzman drives for PREMA Racing, which is in its first year in IndyCar. \u201cThe car was just perfect, all four laps,\u201d Shwartzman said. \u201cFor me, it\u2019s like a race win, honestly.\u201d Shwartzman shared the mentality he had during qualifying weekend. \u201cThe mentality was to be just smooth, careful,\u201d Shwartzman said. \u201cNot to go too aggressive and not to go too soft. And yeah, I think that\u2019s the perfect balance we managed to get it.\u201d Shwartzman won pole with an average speed of 232.790 miles per hour.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI think the main key is the approach that we had,\u201d Shwartzman said. \u201cWe didn\u2019t have experience. I\u2019m a rookie. Nobody would expect me to be in this position, not even me. I didn\u2019t even expect it myself. But I think the approach we had with the team is just go steady, step by step. We knew that the Indy 500 is not forgiving. Any mistake can be costly. And we were like, let\u2019s take it step-by-step. Do not lose confidence.\u201d Shwartzman will be joined by Takuma Sato and Pato O\u2019Ward in the first row for the Indy 500.  Scott McLaughlin won pole for the Indy 500 in 2024.  The 109th Running of the Indianapolis 500 is scheduled for Sunday. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Indiana Fever Issue Statement on Alleged Inappropriate Fan Conduct <\/strong>                                                                                                                                     Pacers Sports &amp; Entertainment CEO Mel Raines issued a statement on Sunday afternoon following Saturday\u2019s Indiana Fever season opener against the Chicago Sky. The Fever beat the Sky, 93-58, in the season opener at Gainbridge Fieldhouse. Caitlin Clark led the Fever with 20 points and recorded a triple-double, adding 10 rebounds and 10 assists. \u201cWe are aware of the allegations of inappropriate fan conduct during yesterday\u2019s game and we are working closely with the WNBA to complete their investigation,\u201d Raines said in the statement. \u201cWe stand firm in our commitment to providing a safe environment for all WNBA players.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The WNBA released a statement as well: \u201cThe WNBA strongly condemns racism, hate, and discrimination in all forms \u2014 they have no place in our league or in society. We are aware of the allegations and are looking into the matter.\u201d The Fever beat the Sky, 93-58, in the season opener at Gainbridge Fieldhouse. Caitlin Clark led the Fever with 20 points and recorded a triple-double, adding 10 rebounds and 10 assists. The Fever return to action tonight at home against the Atlanta Dream.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Jacob Abel Fails to Qualify for the Indianapolis 500 <\/strong>                                                                                                                                                                                     Dale Coyne Racing\u2019s Jacob Abel failed to qualify for the Indianapolis 500. His teammate, Rinus VeeKay, was the final qualifier for the race. Marco Andretti and Marcus Armstrong were the other two drivers to qualify for the Indy 500 in Last Chance Qualifying. \u201cAs soon as we hit Saturday, we just didn\u2019t have any pace. Honestly just kept getting slower and slower each run,\u201d Abel said. \u201cUnfortunately, been preparing for this a little bit the last couple of days, or the last day, really. We were fast all week. I felt really good with the race car all week long. We were in a good place.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Nolan Siegel went and gave Abel a hug after he failed to qualify for the race. Siegel was bumped from the Indy 500 in 2024. Siegel qualified 26th for the 2025 Indianapolis 500. \u201cI do appreciate all the support from the other drivers,\u201d Abel said. \u201cIt means the world to me.\u201d  Despite failing to qualify, Abel said he will still be at the Indianapolis 500.  \u201cI\u2019m a huge fan of this race,\u201d Abel said. \u201cI\u2019ve been to the last 12 of them. It\u2019s going to be hard to be a fan this year at the race, for sure, but just going to keep moving forward. It\u2019s been a tough year so far and just going to keep our heads down and hopefully our luck will turn around a little bit.\u201d   This is Abel\u2019s rookie season in IndyCar. He finished second in INDY NXT in 2024, where he won three races and three poles.
