The Hoosiers brought in 10 transfers, one freshman, and retained two walk-ons from the 2024-25 roster. The portal haul was ranked 10th nationally according to 247Sports. \u201cWe like the way the roster came together,\u201d DeVries said. \u201cWe added a lot of quality shooters, which is a priority for us. 30 | Ian Stephens | Forward | Junior | New Palestine, Ind.-Two-year walk-on at Indiana\u2026 2024-25 Academic All-Big Ten selection\u2026 played at New Palestine High School\u2026 earned three letters for Coach Trent Whitaker\u2026 averaged 15.0 points, 7.8 rebounds and 1.3 steals per game for New Pal, which went 23-3 and won a sectional title\u2026  shot 59% from the field and 40% from the 3-point line (17-for-42) as a senior\u2026 played AAU ball for JH1 Elite and was coached by his father, Jason\u2026 son of Jason and Celia Stephens\u2026 has an older brother, Eli, and two younger brothers, Brody and Aidan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Former Indiana University Men’s Basketball Player Thomas Bryant Headed to the NBA Finals with the Indiana Pacers <\/strong> Ineffective early in the series, Thomas Bryant lost his role in the Pacers\u2019 rotation in the Eastern Conference Finals.\u00a0 He had just four points in the series going into Game 6 and didn\u2019t play at all in Games 3 and 4. But when another opportunity arose, Bryant was more than up to the task. Now the former Hoosier star has a chance to win a second NBA Championship ring in three years. Bryant had lost minutes in the series to fellow backup center Tony Bradley, who suffered an injury in Game 5.\u00a0 So, when Pacers starting center Myles Turner picked up his fourth foul with 10:14 left in the third quarter, Bryant\u2019s number was called. Just six seconds later, Bryant met his former IU basketball teammate OG Anunoby at the rim and blocked his good friend\u2019s shot.\u00a0 That was just the beginning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With the Pacers leading 69-61 with 8:10 left in the third, Bryant spotted up in the corner for his second three of the game. 86 seconds later, Bryant snared a defensive rebound, ran the floor, and hit another three to give Indiana a 78-63 lead.  Before his run ended, Bryant would hit two free throws for an 8-point, three rebound quarter. Bryant finished the game with 11 points in 13 minutes.  He added three rebounds, the block, and made 3-of-4 shooting from beyond the arc.  His third quarter spark helped the Pacers pull away for the 125-108 series-clinching win. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

After the game on the national television broadcast, Eastern Conference Finals MVP Pascal Siakam acknowledged Bryant\u2019s contributions, including how positive Bryant was on the bench in the games he didn\u2019t play. \u201cOne of the things that he did when he was sitting down, he was the best guy on the bench cheering for everyone,\u201d Siakam said.  He lost his minutes, and he kept cheering for everyone.  That\u2019s basketball.  The basketball gods are going to repay you when you\u2019re that type of teammate.  He was so laser focused and helped us win the game tonight.\u201d It was the second straight series Bryant provided a major contribution in a game when the Pacers clinched.  He had nine points, three rebounds and a steal in Game 5 at Cleveland and drew the praise of head coach Rick Carlisle. Anunoby had a solid performance as well.  He scored 24 points and pulled down five rebounds.  Anunoby has become the very good two-way NBA player many thought he could be when he left IU along with Bryant following the 2016-17 season. Bryant and the Indiana Pacers will face Oklahoma City in the NBA Finals.  That series starts on Thursday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Indiana University Rowing Finishes 14th at the NCAA Championships <\/strong> Indiana rowing finished as the No. 14 team nationally Sunday at the 2025 NCAA Championships on Mercer Lake in West Windsor, New Jersey, led by the Varsity Eight’s historic ninth-place finish as a crew. IU’s V8 earned the boat’s best-ever finish at an NCAA Championships, tying the program record for any Hoosier crew \u2013 the Varsity Four’s 2014 and 2019 crews also finished ninth in those seasons. Indiana placed third in the V8 petite final Sunday with a time of 6:15.162, just one half of a second behind Rutgers and 2.6 seconds off race winner Princeton. The Hoosiers outpaced Cal (6:16.996), Virginia (6:17.738) and Big Ten rival Michigan (6:20.140). Indiana’s No. 14 team finish is the program’s best result since 2019 when the Hoosiers placed 12th. In their third consecutive NCAA appearance, the Hoosiers improved from 15th a year ago. IU’s Varsity Four and Second Varsity Eight finished 17th and 18th, respectively, after placing fifth and sixth in their ‘C’ finals. Both races were tightly contested as Indiana finished within seven seconds of the lead in each race.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Madi Sell Honored as Indiana University Female Scholar Student Athlete of the Month<\/strong> Junior middle blocker\u00a0Madi Sell\u00a0finished out her first full season at Indiana by being named the June Female Scholar Student Athlete of the Month. The award is designed to honor student athletes at IU who embody strong academic and athletic performance. Sell joined the IU program as a transfer from Missouri during the spring semester in 2024. She started 28 of 30 matches for the Hoosiers during the 2024 campaign and led the team with 94 blocks (0.92 per set). She added 119 kills (1.17 per set) as a veteran presence in the middle. Known for her fiery passion on the court, Sell shined in the biggest moments. She provided seven kills and seven blocks against Penn State \u2013 the eventual National Champions. Against in-state rival Purdue, she had seven kills (zero errors) and three solo blocks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Ballwin, Missouri native has been equally impressive in the classroom. She had to retake a handful of classes due to transferring credits but took a proactive approach to ensure she met all requirements for her major. Sell aspires to be an Anesthesiologist Assistant and is set to graduate in the spring of 2026. Sell is back home for the first weeks of summer but will return to campus with her fellow teammates in June. She is one of four returning starters on next year’s roster and helps to make up a four-person senior class for head coach Steve Aird and the Hoosiers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jake Hanley Named Indiana University Male Scholar Student Athlete of the Month<\/strong> On top of one of the best freshman campaigns in program history, first baseman\u00a0Jake Hanley\u00a0proved to be the true embodiment of a student-athlete with his outstanding performance in the classroom during the 2024-25 school year. He was named the June Male Scholar Student Athlete of the Month. Hanley, the Big Ten Freshman of the Year in 2025, led all freshman players in the Big Ten in hits (73), runs scored (48), home runs (14) and RBIs (52). He was named to the Big Ten All-Freshman Team and was a Second Team All-Big Ten selection. He completed the entire season without making an error while starting all 56 games this year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In addition to his on-field performance, Hanley thrived in his first year in the college classroom. He has the highest cumulative GPA of any undergraduate student in the baseball program (3.7) and maintained a 3.50+ GPA during the spring semester. Hanley is working on his degree in the prestigious Kelley School of Business. He is set to head off to play summer baseball before returning to campus in August to begin his sophomore campaign.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Six Former Indiana University Men’s Soccer Hoosiers Eligible for MLS All-Star Fan Vote<\/strong> Major League Soccer Last Wednesday opened the voting process for the 2025 MLS All-Star Game, which includes online fan voting. Indiana men’s soccer fans can vote for six of their favorite Hoosiers to play among the league’s best this summer. The MLS All-Star Game will feature the MLS All-Stars taking on a team of All-Stars from Mexico’s top league, LIGA MX, on Wednesday, July 23, at Q2 Stadium in Austin, Texas. The list of eligible players includes former IU men’s soccer stars Roman Celentano, Griffin Dorsey, Andrew Gutman, Jack Maher,\u00a0Jansen Miller\u00a0and Daniel Munie.
