Based on the average of the national sites, McHaney is the No. 408 overall player in the class, and the No. 39 defensive lineman. He’s a high-end 3-star overall, including a 4-star at ESPN. He’s known for his quick-burst and speed, and his low center of gravity helps him gain leverage against blockers. An Indianapolis product, McHaney attends national prep school IMG Academy in Florida where he played against a national schedule. He recorded 39 tackles as a junior, (7 TFL), with 2 sacks, 2 pass breakups and 2 QB hits. McHaney transferred to IMG after playing his sophomore season at Indianapolis Lutheran, which went 13-0 and won its second consecutive Indiana 1A state title in 2023. As a sophomore there he was credited with 81 tackles (7 TFL), 1 sack and 1 fumble recovery. McHaney is IU’s 20th verbal commit in a 2026 class that is ranked around No. 30 in the nation by the main recruiting outlets. He’s the fourth defensive lineman to commit to IU this cycle.

Jake Hanley Becomes Indiana University’s unanimous Freshman All-American First baseman Jake Hanley continues to make more history for the Hoosiers. On Tuesday afternoon, he became the first unanimous Freshman All-American to ever play at Indiana. He was honored by all four major outlets after a dominant rookie campaign in Bloomington. Hanley started all 56 games at first base in 2025 and became a regular in the middle of the order. He was second on the team with a .333 batting average and contributed 73 hits, 48 runs scored, 14 home runs and 52 RBIs. IU’s lineup was filled with freshmen this season and he helped anchor a core four of true freshmen (Hogan Denny, Cooper Malamazian and Will Moore) that all recorded at least 40 hits on the season.

In addition to his tremendous offensive game, Hanley became an outstanding defender as well. Hanley didn’t commit a single error on the season and was a national finalist for the ABCA/Rawlings Gold Glove award at first base. After his prolific season in Bloomington, Hanley has gone out to the prestigious Cape Cod League as a freshman to play summer ball. He was the fourth player in program history to win Big Ten Freshman of the Year and will be the focal point of IU’s lineup in the 2026 season. Perfect Game, D1 Baseball and the NCBWA all honored him as a first team selection. Baseball America tabbed the 6-foot-6 first baseman as a Second Team Freshman All-American.
