Maddie May Wins the Golfweek Hoosier Amateur Women’s Tournament at the Pfau Course <\/strong> Indiana University Women’s Golfer Maddie May made it known that the Pfau Course is her course as she dominated start to finish to win the Golfweek Hoosier Amateur Women’s Tournament at the Pfau Course on the IU Campus in Bloomington. May will be a Senior, and this is her third time playing in this event and as they always say the third time is the charm. May shot a tournament record 67 on Tuesday to lead by five strokes after day 1. May shot a two over par 73 on Wednesday and was one under par after two rounds after with a four-shot lead over Nicole Johnson going into the final round. May shot a three over par 74 on Thursday and Johnson shot a 78 as May won the tournament by nine strokes and finished the tournament one over par. May who put Bloomington as her home for this event is originally from Christchurch, New Zealand started her career at Ole Miss before transferring to Indiana and after redshirting her Sophomore Season for the Rebels she will start her third and final season for the Hoosiers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

May’s Teammate Cara Heisterkamp from Westlake, Ohio tied for 17th finishing the tournament 22 over par and she will be a sophomore this upcoming year for the Hoosiers. The Tournament had 53 players to start and finished with 45 after eight withdrew before and during the event. The tournament featured players from 19 States along with Canada and Japan. The States that were represented were Illinois, Indiana, Texas, Mississippi, Iowa, Ohio, Louisiana, Kentucky, Michigan, North Carolina, Virginia, Arkansas, Georgia, Pennsylvania, New York, Kansas, Alabama, Missouri and Florida.  The Men’s Golfweek Hoosier Amateur Tournament will take place Next Tuesday through Thursday at the Pfau Course on the Indiana University Campus. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Brownsburg Set to Play in the Little League Baseball Great Lakes Region Tournament in Whitestown <\/strong> The Brownsburg Little League from Brownsburg Indiana will have a short trip to play in the Little League Baseball Central Region Tournament in Whitestown Indiana and there will be a big crowd behind them. The Indiana State Champions will be playing just 13.4 miles north of their hometown when they begin tournament play this evening at 7 PM against the Clarendon Hills Illinois Little League. Brownsburg has won six Indiana State Titles including four in a row from 1999-2002 and they are back in the Great Lakes Regional for the first time since 2021. Brownsburg has won the Regional Twice in 1999 and 2002 and are looking to become the first Indiana Team since Hagerstown in 2022 to make it to the Little League World Series in Williamsport, Pennsylvania.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Clarendon Hills is making its first Great Lakes Region Tournament Appearance and is a Southwest Suburb of Chicago with a population of 8,702. The first game of the tournament will feature the Lexington Eastern Little League from Kentucky against the West Side Little League from Hamilton, Ohio at 10 am with the winner facing the Negaunee Michigan Little League Sunday at 4 PM. The Tournament is a double elimination format with the first five games streaming on ESPN+ and the final three games televised on ESPN. The Tournament will run through Wednesday with the Championship Game scheduled for 7 PM. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Indiana Fever Sign Forward Chloe Bibby to Rest of the Season Contract<\/strong> The Indiana Fever have signed Australian forward Chloe Bibby to a rest of season contract. Bibby has played in two games for the Fever since joining via a seven-day contract on July 25. In her two games with the Fever, Bibby has averaged 9.0 points per game, shooting 44.4 percent from the field and 50.0 percent from beyond the arc. On Wednesday, Bibby helped Indiana earn a 107-101 win over the Phoenix Mercury, scoring 10 points in 13 minutes, including two three pointers. In her Fever debut the game prior, Bibby scored eight points in 11 minutes played as part of a 93-78 win over Chicago. The Indiana Fever began a four-game road stint Last Night against the Dallas Wings at American Airlines Center, before heading west to face the Seattle Storm Tomorrow at Climate Pledge Arena with tip set for 3 p.m. ET on ABC.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Indiana University’s Chloe Moore-McNeil and Jack Waggoner Named Big Ten Outstanding Sportsmanship Winners for the 2024-25 Academic Year <\/strong>The Big Ten Conference announced on Thursday the 36 honorees named Outstanding Sportsmanship Award winners for the 2024-25 academic year. These standouts were chosen from a group of 430 students honored throughout the academic year who had displayed positive sportsmanship.  One member of each varsity sports team on every campus was chosen by his or her institution as a Sportsmanship Award honoree, and two Outstanding Sportsmanship Award winners were then selected from each institution. All of the Sportsmanship Award winners have distinguished themselves through sportsmanship and ethical behavior. In addition, these honorees must be in good academic standing and must have demonstrated good citizenship outside of the sports-competition setting.  The 2024-25 Big Ten Outstanding Sportsmanship Award winners appear below, and the complete list of Sportsmanship Award honorees for all sports from each school can be found here<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Indianapolis Colts Sign Two Cornerbacks and place another on Injured Reserve and Waive a Defensive End <\/strong> T he Indianapolis Colts today signed free agent cornerbacks Tre Herndon and Duke Shelley. The team also placed cornerback David Long Jr. on the Injured Reserve list and released tight end Albert Okwuegbunam Jr. Herndon, 5-11, 185 pounds, has played in 84 career games (34 starts) in his time with the New Orleans Saints (2024), New York Giants (2024) and Jacksonville Jaguars (2018-23). He has recorded 233 tackles (180 solo), 9.0 tackles for loss, 1.0 sack, 32 passes defensed, three interceptions, two forced fumbles, one fumble recovery and 10 special teams stops. Herndon has appeared in two postseason contests and has tallied five solo tackles. He was originally signed by the Jaguars as an undrafted free agent on April 30, 2018, out of Vanderbilt. In 2024, Herndon spent time on the Saints’ active roster and practice squad. He saw action in one game. His first name is pronounced Tray.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Shelley, 5-9, 176 pounds, has played in 53 career games (11 starts) in his time with the Giants (2024), Los Angeles Rams (2023), Las Vegas Raiders (2023), Minnesota Vikings (2022) and Chicago Bears (2019-22). He has compiled 87 tackles (64 solo), 14 passes defensed, one interception, one fumble recovery and six special teams stops. Shelley has also appeared in three postseason contests (one start) and has registered seven tackles (five solo), two passes defensed and one special teams stop. He was originally selected by the Bears in the sixth round (205th overall) of the 2019 NFL Draft out of Kansas State. In 2024, Shelley spent time on the Giants’ active roster and practice squad. He played in one game and tallied one solo tackle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Long Jr., 5-11, 196 pounds, was originally signed to the Indianapolis practice squad on September 2, 2024. He has played in 79 career games (12 starts) in his time with the Colts (2024), Giants (2024), Green Bay Packers (2023), Carolina Panthers (2023), Raiders (2023) and Rams (2019-22). Long Jr. has compiled 94 tackles (81 solo), eight passes defensed, one interception and two special teams stops. He has appeared in six postseason contests (one start) and has totaled 12 tackles (11 solo), 1.0 tackle for loss, one pass defensed and one interception returned for a touchdown. In 2024, Long Jr. saw action in 13 games with Indianapolis. Okwuegbunam Jr., 6-5, 258 pounds, was originally signed to the Indianapolis practice squad on December 17, 2024. He has played in 30 career games (seven starts) in his time with the Colts (2024), Philadelphia Eagles (2023-24) and Denver Broncos (2020-23) and has compiled 54 receptions for 546 yards (10.1 avg.) and four touchdowns.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

FOX Acquires Interest in Penske Entertainment and Indy Car<\/strong> FOX acquired a one-third interest in Penske Entertainment, which includes IndyCar and the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. FOX Corporation and Penske announced the deal Thursday. The agreement comes after FOX acquired IndyCar\u2019s media rights. Thursday\u2019s announcement includes a multi-year extension of the media rights deal. \u201cThis partnership is built on long-standing trust and a shared vision for the future,\u201d said Roger Penske. \u201cFOX sees the incredible potential across our sport and wants to play an active role in building our growth trajectory. Lachlan Murdoch and his team, starting with Eric Shanks, are committed to our success and will bring incredible energy and innovation to IndyCar.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Both companies said the agreement would \u201csupercharge a new era of growth\u201d for IndyCar. Plans call for: Innovative and industry-leading racing and entertainment events. A hyper-engaged digital strategy and immersive content focus. Enhanced promotion and star-building opportunities for NTT IndyCar Series drivers. FOX Sports debuted its coverage of IndyCar during the 2025 season. This year\u2019s Indianapolis 500, the series\u2019 crown jewel race, averaged 7.01 million viewers, a 41% increase over the previous year and a 17-year high. The IndyCar season is averaging a 31% increase in viewership year-over-year, the network said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Noblesville’s New $93 Millon Dollar Arena Set to Open after Two and Half Years Under Construction <\/strong> The brand-new Arena at Innovation Mile in Noblesville is set to open next week and the Media got a preview of the brand-new facility on Wednesday.\u00a0Arena at Innovation Mile, located just off of 141st Street and Olio Road, will be the official home court for the Noblesville Boom, the Pacers\u2019 G-League team. It will hold about 3,500 people for Boom games, and up to 4,200 for concerts and other events. One thing that stands out when you walk in the main entrance, is the open concept with a lot of natural lighting.\u00a0Leaders in Noblesville say this was intentional to make it feel like a welcoming space for all events.\u00a0 The new venue also pays tribute to the nearby Ruoff Music Center, or \u201cDeer Creek,\u201d as some still call it. One of the concession stands is named Deer Creek.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Crews spent the last two years working on the $93 million project, which Mayor Chris Jensen calls a \u201cgamechanger\u201d for the city. \u201cFor a long time, Noblesville was known for its historic downtown, The Square. We have 100% capacity in our businesses, we have the White River, but this is really the front door to Noblesville for a lot of people now.\u201d Jensen also addressed comparisons between the Arena at Innovation Mile and the Fishers Event Center, which opened last year. \u201cFishers is about double the capacity. You\u2019re going to see a whole different subset of events down in fishers that you\u2019re going to see here in Noblesville. It is done in effort to be coordinated to attract as much population growth long term, visitors as much as possible, to Hamilton County. We\u2019re in constant communication with them \u2018down the street.\u2019\u201d The Arena at Innovation Mile will open next Friday, Aug. 8, when Jensen holds his State of the City address and cuts the ribbon.
