Indiana University Men’s Basketball Faces Another Road Test at #12 Michigan State\u00a0<\/strong> The Indiana Hoosiers are on the road this evening at 7 PM when they face the #12 Michigan State Spartans in the Breslin Center in East Lansing, Michigan with the game televised on NBC Sports Network and Peacock.\u00a0 The Hoosiers lead the all-time series 74-58 and have won the last two meetings with the Spartans. Indiana is 23-41 all time in East Lansing and the Hoosiers have won three of the last four meetings. Michigan State beat Indiana 80-65 in East Lansing on February 21, 2023. Indiana is coming off an 83-77 lost to #10 Nebraska Saturday afternoon at Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall. The Hoosiers were 10-0 at home coming to that game and blew a 16-point lead giving 53 points in the second half. The Hoosiers are 12-4 overall and 3-2 in the Big Ten. Lamar Wilkerson led the way with 31 points, Tucker DeVries added 17 points, and Reed Bailey scored 10 points off the bench.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Indiana led 39-30 at halftime and led 51-35 with 16:54 remaining in the ball game when the Cornhuskers came all the way back and outscored the Hoosiers 48-26 for the remainder of the ball game and handed Indiana is first home loss of the season as the Cornhuskers remain one of five Unbeaten teams in the nation along with Arizona, Iowa State, Miami Ohio and Vanderbilt. Michigan suffered its first loss of the season at home Saturday afternoon to Wisconsin 91-88. Lamar Wilkerson leads the Hoosiers in scoring at 20.3 points along with 3.3 rebounds, 2.6 assists and 1.4 steals per game. Tucker DeVries adds 14.9 points and a team leading 5.1 rebounds per game. Tayton Conerway is averaging 12.3 points and team leading 1.4 steals per game.  Reed Bailey averages 10.4 points and 4.5 rebounds. Connor Enright leads the team with 4.6 assists per game, and Sam Alexis leads the Hoosiers with 0.9 blocks per game.  Indiana is averaging 84.5 points, 18.3 assists and 10.7 turnovers per game. The Hoosiers have dished out 292 assists and committed 171 turnovers this season. The Hoosiers shoot 48% from the field, 36% form three-point range and 78 percent from the free throw line. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Michigan State is 14-2 overall and 4-1 in the Big Ten. The Spartans have won their last two games at home against USC 80-51 and Northwestern 76-66. The Spartans lost to Duke at home 66-60 in December and at Nebraska 58-56 on January 2. Jaxon Kohler leads the team with 14.2 points and 10.1 points. Jeremy Fears Jr. Is averaging 12.1 points along with a team leading 8.8 assists and 1.1 steals per game. High-Flying Coen Carr is averaging 11.6 points, 5.2 rebounds, 1,5 assists and a team leading 1 block per game. Carson Cooper averages 10.3 points per game.  The Spartans average 78.9 points, 19.1 assists and 12.6 turnovers per game. Michigan State shoots 46% from the field, 36% from three-point range and 73% from the free throw line. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

 The Spartans have a 15-player roster that represents Michigan, Georgia, Illinois, Mississippi, Kentucky, Utah, Ohio, Virginia, New Hampshire, Texas, Maryland and South Carolina. There are 5 Seniors, 2 Juniors, 3 Sophomores and 5 Freshman on the squad. Michigan State is big up front with Cooper at 6-11 and Kohler at 6-9 and will attack inside and be a force on the boards. Carr is 6-5 and his known for highlight reel dunks and if he gets going early and then crowd at the Breslin Center is into the game it could be a long night for Darian DeVries and the Hoosiers Indiana has to hit their shots, take care of the ball and get the Spartans big men in foil trouble early along with limiting transition points if they want to get out of East Lansing with a road win in always tough environment.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Indiana University Football Lands Montana State Defensive Back Carson Williams from the Transfer Portal\u00a0<\/strong> Indiana picked up a commitment from Montana State transfer cornerback Carson Williams on Sunday. Williams was in town visiting IU this weekend. Playing almost exclusively on the outside, Williams had 46 tackles, 2.5 for loss, on the season and eight pass breakups.\u00a0 He started on Montana State\u2019s FCS national championship squad. At PFF he earned a 70.9 defensive grade, with his highest mark coming in run defense (79.3), and lowest in pass rush (55.0).\u00a0 He earned a 69.5 coverage grade, and 71.6 tackling.\u00a0 He was targeted 63 times and allowed 38 receptions. The 5-foot-11 and 170-pound Houston, Texas product earned FCS Central All-American honors. Williams has three years of eligibility remaining. Indiana doesn\u2019t have any cornerbacks who are out of eligibility following this season, but they have lost Amariyun Knighten to the transfer portal, and D\u2019Angelo Ponds could leave early for the NFL. Jamari Sharpe, Ryland Gandy, Jaylen Bell, Seaonta Stewart, Zacharey Smith, and Dontrae Henderson are all slated to be back at corner for the Hoosiers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Indiana University Football Loses a Pair of Young Defensive Backs to the Transfer Portal\u00a0<\/strong> Even as the team prepares for the national championship, an ill-timed transfer portal window has led to more defections for Indiana. Safety Jah Jah Boyd and cornerback Dontrae Henderson are both entering the transfer portal, according to reports. Boyd is no longer listed on Indiana\u2019s roster but was with the team and in uniform Friday evening in Atlanta. Henderson still was listed with the team as of Monday morning. IU coach Curt Cignetti said last week he\u2019d give players who enter the portal the option to continue practicing with the team, and Henderson said Monday on social media he\u2019s staying with the team through the national championship game. \u201cReally thankful for my time at IU and every person who made an impact in my life and development here,\u201d Henderson wrote on X.\u00a0 \u201cI will be finishing the season out but looking for a new home this upcoming season.\u201d Both players had originally committed to play for Cignetti when he was still at James Madison.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Boyd did not play in any games in 2024 as he recovered from an injury.  He saw action in six games this season, playing a total of 47 snaps.  Boyd graded out exceptionally well at PFF in his limited action.  He leaves with three years of eligibility remaining. Henderson is a redshirt freshman and leaves IU with three years of eligibility remaining.  He played in one game in each of the 2024 and 2025 seasons. The transfer portal entry period runs from Jan. 2-16, with an extra five-day window (Jan. 20-24) for teams playing in the national championship. Indiana has already made multiple transfer portal addition at defensive back thus far, adding Wisconsin\u2019s Preston Zachman at safety, likely rover Jiquan Sanks of Cincinnati, and Montana State cornerback Carson Williams.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Indiana University Men’s Tennis Player Sam Landau Named to the Big Ten Players to Watch List<\/strong> \u00a0 Indiana’s\u00a0Sam Landau\u00a0was named to the Big Ten Men’s Tennis Players to Watch List. Landau is one of 18 players to be selected to the preseason watch list. In the fall,\u00a0Landau\u00a0went\u00a06-2 in singles play and\u00a08-5\u00a0in doubles competition.\u00a0Landau qualified for\u00a0both the singles and doubles competitions at the NCAA Individual Championships in November. Landau earned his berth in the singles competition\u00a0after splitting the championship at the ITA Ohio Valley regionals, and he earned his bid to the\u00a0double’s\u00a0competition with\u00a0teammate\u00a0Facundo Yunis\u00a0after placing third in the ITA sectionals.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kokomo Native Madison Layden-Zay becomes the All-Time Career Three Point Leader in Purdue Women’s Basketball History\u00a0<\/strong> It was a memorable Sunday for the Purdue University women\u2019s basketball team. The Boilermakers (10-7, 2-4) beat No. 23 Washington 78-72 in overtime inside Mackey Arena. It was Purdue\u2019s first win over a ranked opponent since the 2022-23 season. \u201cThe progress that we\u2019ve seen in practice, now it\u2019s starting to show,\u201d Purdue head coach\u00a0Katie Gearlds said. \u201cI think our kids\u2026 They believe.\u201d The Boilers trailed by as many as 13 points in the Big Ten Conference clash before storming back to force overtime. Purdue had a 17-point run through the end of regulation to the start of overtime en route to the victory. It\u2019s the Boilers\u2019 second straight win.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The game was memorable not only because of the comeback victory, but also because there was history made on Sunday. Purdue guard Madison Layden-Zay, a Kokomo, Ind. native, became the program\u2019s career three-point leader. The Northwestern High School graduate\u2019s three-pointer with just under 3:30 to play in the fourth quarter was the 245th career triple for Layden-Zay, passing Karissa McLaughlin\u2019s previous Purdue record of 244 career three-point field goals. Layden-Zay added another triple after the record breaker. She currently has 246 made three-point field goals in her career. \u201cObviously really cool, really special,\u201d Layden-Zay said. \u201cBut, I think it\u2019s even more special that we did it with a win today. And I feel like, for me, that\u2019s really all that matters.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The fifth-year guard finished with 19 points in the win. She was 4-of-11 from behind-the-arc, her 21st career game with four or more three-pointers. \u201cI\u2019m so proud of that kid,\u201d Gearlds said. \u201cShe deserves it. She gives us everything she wants. And everybody who was around the program or was here and watched kind of the end of her career not go the way it should have gone\u2026 For her to come back and have this moment here, it couldn\u2019t happen to a better human being.\u201d Layden-Zay returned to the program after taking the 2024-25 season off. The Boilers are back in action next Sunday when they face No. 21 USC in Los Angeles, Calif.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hannah Hidalgo scores 31 points as Norte Dame Women’s Basketball beats #22 North Carolina by 23 Points<\/strong> Hannah Hidalgo scored 31 points with eight rebounds, seven steals and six assists, Cassandre Prosper added 17 points and 14 rebounds as\u00a0Notre Dame\u00a0blew out No. 22 North Carolina 73-50 on Sunday. Vanessa de Jesus, made four 3s and scored 16 points on 6-of-7 shooting for Notre Dame (12-3, 4-2 Atlantic Coast Conference). Hidalgo also had a block and just one turnover in her 14th career 30-point game. Nyla Harris scored 14 points on 6-of-9 shooting for North Carolina (13-5, 2-3), which lost its second straight with its lowest scoring game of the season.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

De Jesus, with 11 on 4-of-5 shooting, including three 3s, and Hidalgo combined for 20 points in the third quarter when the Irish outscored the Tar Heels 22-5 to break the game open. The Fighting Irish forced 22 turnovers against a team averaging just 13 a game and turned those into 26 points. The Tar Heels, who came in shooting 47.7% and averaging eight 3s, were held to four 3s and 34.5% shooting. North Carolina shot 2 of 12 and scored five points in the third period \u2014 its fewest in any quarter this season. De Jesus had a basket and a 3-pointer as Notre Dame scored the first six points of the second half to get the lead to 12. After a Tar Heels basket, de Jesus made back-to-back 3s and then Hidalgo scored four points for a 10-0 run that made it 49-29. The Irish led 33-27 at the half. Notre Dame celebrated the 2001 national championship team featuring coach Muffet McGraw, Final Four MVP Ruth Riley and current coach Niele Ivey at halftime. Notre Dame is home against No. 10 Louisville on Thursday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Taylor University Men’s Basketball Player Pete Combs Collects Crossroads League Offensive Player of the Week Award<\/strong> The Crossroads League announced its weekly awards, with Pete Combs collecting his first CL Offensive Player-of-the-Week award by leading Taylor to a pair of road wins in CL play. Combs averaged a potent 21 points throughout the week on an efficient 72 percent shooting from the field. The forward was 16-21 from inside the arc and 2-4 from three-point land. Combs added seven assists on the offensive end while grabbing nine rebounds, two steals and a block in an impressive week.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Bloomfield, Indiana native began the week helping TU overcome a slow start to defeat Saint Francis (7-9, 2-5 CL) 84-72 on the road. Combs poured in 17 points and a career-high six assists as TU shot 52.5 percent from the field as a team. Combs carried the Trojan offense in a dominant victory against RV Huntington (12-5, 3-4 CL), scoring one fewer than his career best with 25 points. The big man was the only Trojan to score more than 12 in the contest and shot 10-13 from the field including a pair of triples.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

TU student-athletes have already garnered 40 Crossroads League and MSFA Player-of-the-Week awards, along with six NAIA National Athlete-of-the-Week honors during the 2025-26 school year.
