#9 Michigan\u2019s Full Court Press stifles Indiana University Women’s Basketball <\/strong> The #9 Michigan Wolverines handled the Indiana Hoosiers 95-67 Thursday Night in Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall. Michigan led start to finish, and their full court press forced 23 Hoosier turnovers and the Wolverines capitalized, 34 scoring points off those turnovers. Michigan dominated by scoring 54 points the paint and holding the Hoosiers to 67 points for the entire game. Michigan has won the last three meetings between the two teams and it\u2019s just their ninth all-time win in Bloomington in 36 games as the Hoosiers lead the series 49-32. Michigan is 18-3 on the season and 8-1 in the Big Ten. Michigan has won three in a row and seven of their last eight games. Indiana is 11-11 overall and 0-10 in the Big Ten. Indiana is .500 for the first time since November 7, 2024, when the Hoosiers were 1-1 to start the season after a season opening win against Brown followed by a home loss to Harvard. Indiana has lost nine in a row and seven by double digits including the last four games.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Indiana will face Northwestern on Sunday Afternoon at Simon Skojdt Assembly Hall and Northwestern has three Big Ten Conference Wins and sits in the 15th and final spot for the Big Ten Women\u2019s Tournament in Indianapolis in March. Indiana has 8 more games left and needs to beat Northwestern plus two more wins down the road to have any shot at the postseason as the bottom three in the conference standings stay home. Olivia Olson led Michigan with 27 points and 5 rebounds. Olson was 10-14 from the field, 1-3 from three-point range and 6-7 from the free throw line. Mila Holloway added 17 points, and Syla Swords scored 10 points. Westfield, Indiana Native Alyssa Crockett scored 3 points in 9 minutes as 11 of the 13 Wolverines that played scored. Michigan finished 35-68 from the field for 51 %, 7-16 from three-point range for 43 % and 18-28 from the free throw line for 64 %. Michigan pulled 37 down rebounds, 15 assists, 16 steals, 2 blocks and 11 turnovers. The Wolverines had 29 fastbreak points, 26 bench Points and 13 second chance points.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Maya Maklusky led Indiana with 17 points and Shay Ciezki added 13 points as they both fouled out. Lenee Beaumont who celebrated her Birthday added 13 points. Jerni Kiaku added 8 points, Neveah Caffey and Edessa Noyan added 7 points apiece. Faith Wiseman scored 2 points in 12 minutes as the Indian Creek Graduate played in her first game since December 6 at Illinois. Chloe Spreen saw her first minutes since December 21, playing for two minutes and not scoring. Phoenix Stotjin did not score in three minutes, and Jade Ondineme did not play. Indiana was without Sophomore Forward Zania Socka-Nuegmen is out for the second game in a row with a lower leg injury. Head Coach Teri Moren said the injury is on the other foot and said after the game there was no timetable for her return. The Hoosiers finished 24-47 from the field for 51%, 8-21 from the field three-point range for 38% and 11-16 from the free throw line for 68%. The Hoosiers pulled down 25 rebounds, 12 assists, 5 steals and 4 blocks. Indiana scored 30 points in the paint, 10 bench points, 10 points off turnovers and 10 fastbreak points.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Michigan jumped out to a 12-3 lead hitting their first five shots from the field and led 24-15 after the first quarter. Michigan outscored Indiana 25-16 in the second quarter as the Wolverines had an 8-0 run and a 14-2 run to increase the lead to 40-20 with 6:08 left in the second quarter. Indiana responded with a 11-2 run to cut the lead to 11 points 42-31 with 2:42 left before halftime. Michigan came back with a 7-0 run in the last 2:09 as Indiana did not score in the last 2:42 for the second quarter. Michigan led 49-31 at halftime as Olivia Olson scored 17 points at halftime. Michigan outscored Indiana 23-18 in both the third and fourth quarter as the Wolverines led 72-49 at the end of the third quarter and closed it out even though they missed their final six shots from the field and did not hit a field goal for the last 3:55.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Indiana Head Coach Teri Moren praised Michigan and Head Coach Kim Barnes Arico for how she has built her program and says \u201cThey’re going to make a deep run\u201d when talking about the NCAA Tournament in March. Moren also asked the fans \u201cTo stick with this team and do not give up because they are showing up every day\u201d and Moren added she must \u201cKeep pouring into this team and continue to encourage this team to not give up\u201d. Lenee Beaumont knows that this is hard and experience this when she played AAU ball in Illinois and her team won two games at the end of summer. \u201cWe have to get better and I have to do better and limit my turnovers\u201d Beaumont said after the game. Beaumont knows that there is another big opportunity on Sunday and a must win situation against Northwestern and knows that \u201cThe Big Ten is tough and every game is a big game, and we have stay in games to have a chance.\u201d For Head coach Teri Moren she has not experienced a season since the 2014-15 season when she was 15-16 in her first season at Indiana. Moren does not make excuses but says \u201cWe keep seeing the same things over and over\u201d and added \u201cNobody feels sorry for us\u201d but now the focus turns to Northwestern on Sunday and still looking for that first Big Ten Conference win of the season.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Limited Edition Indiana University Football National Championship Coke Cans to be Available <\/strong>  Coca-Cola cans celebrating Indiana\u2019s national championship in football will soon hit store shelves. Coca-Cola Consolidated, Indiana\u2019s local bottler, said the special cans will be delivered to retailers in the Bloomington and Indianapolis areas during the week of Feb. 3. The limited-edition cans, sold individually, feature the 2025 championship logo to honor the Hoosiers for their historic season. No. 1 Indiana defeated No. 10 Miami 27-21 on Jan. 19 to capture the university\u2019s first football championship. IU\u2019s run included a win over then-No. 1 Ohio State in the Big Ten Championship Game and College Football Playoff victories against No. 9 Alabama and No. 5 Oregon. The cans will be available while supplies last. \u201cCongratulations to the Indiana University Hoosiers on a phenomenal Championship run,\u201d said Heather Hucks, vice president of consumer connections at Coca-Cola Consolidated. \u201cWe are thrilled to celebrate alongside Hoosiers fans, by bringing them custom championship Coca-Cola cans to commemorate their first football national championship win.\u201d Fans willing to wait a few months can also get commemorative championship glass Coca-Cola bottles, which are set to arrive in August, just before the start of the next football season. Headset that Curt Cignetti Wore for the College Football Playoff National Championship Game is up for Auction <\/strong> The headset Indiana coach Curt Cignetti wore during the College Football Playoff National Championship Game is up for auction. Bison Drop, a site dedicated auctioning off Indiana Athletics memorabilia, posted Cignetti\u2019s national championship game-used headset on Monday. On Wednesday, bids on the headset hit the $15,000 mark. Per the auction posting, at least 80 bids had been made on the headset. The auction ends in early February. Bison Drop is also auctioning off an IU player-used Rose Bowl towel, a team-issued Peach Bowl player towel and a national championship game-used towel. As of Wednesday, bids on all the items exceeded $500. Indiana beat Miami, 27-21,<\/a> in the CFP National Championship Game on Jan. 19. With the win, the Hoosiers clinched a 16-0 record. Larry “Bud” Wright is Back on the Sidelines Coaching Indiana High School Football <\/strong> Larry \u201cBud\u201d Wright is returning to the football sidelines as a head coach. The Sheridan football icon has been hired as the new coach at Southwood High School, located about five miles southeast of Wabash. Val Tsoutsouris, the sports editor of RTC4 in Rochester, broke the news with a post on X (formerly Twitter) just before 10 p.m. Wednesday. Wright spent 59 seasons as the Blackhawks\u2019 coach. He is the winningest football coach in Indiana with 463 career victories and led Sheridan to nine state championships. Wright stepped down as the Blackhawks\u2019 coach in December 2024. He served as an assistant at North Miami during the 2025 season.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Westfield to Host the World’s Largest Youth Flag Football Tournament <\/strong> The biggest youth flag football tournament in the world is coming to Indiana. Droplight Grand Park Sports Campus in Westfield will host the third annual NFL Flag Championships from July 23-26, 2026, the NFL announced Tuesday. The tournament will feature over 350 boys and girls flag football teams from around the world. \u201cWe\u2019re thrilled to bring the NFL Flag Championships to Westfield for what will be our biggest and most exciting tournament yet,\u201d Peter O\u2019Reilly, NFL executive vice president of events, international and club business, said in a release. \u201cThe greater Indianapolis area has a rich football tradition, and we are looking forward to creating even more unforgettable moments for these athletes and the community.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Flag football is one of the fastest-growing sports in the world, with 20 million players globally, and will make its Olympic debut in Los Angeles in 2028. Indiana Fever Star Caitlin Clark is Joining “NBC’S Sunday Night Basketball” For Two NBA Games <\/strong> Indiana Fever superstar Caitlin Clark is joining the NBC “Sunday Night Basketball” pregame crew this weekend when the Los Angeles Lakers play the New York Knicks at Madison Square Garden, according to ESPN.  Clark will join the crew for two games \u2014 the Knicks game at MSG and a second game on March 29, when the Knicks play the Oklahoma City Thunder in Oklahoma City.  “There’s no more iconic figure in basketball in the women’s game right now, or the game in general,” Sam Flood, executive producer for NBC Sports, told The Associated Press. “So, we said, ‘Let’s have a bigger conversation.'”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After entering into a marketing relationship with Xfinity in March of 2024, Clark has done television work, including a cameo on NBC’s “Saturday Night Live” in 2024. NBCUniversal is a subsidiary of Comcast Corporation. “I’m really excited to be part of the Basketball Night in America crew this season,” Clark said in a statement released by NBC. “Carmelo, Vince and Tracy are legends of the game, and Maria is a true professional. After being the first pick in the 2024 WNBA Draft, Clark is a two-time WNBA All-Star. In addition, that year, Clark was an All-WNBA first team pick in, as well as rookie of the year. Clark played in only 13 games last season because of injury. Even though she returned to the court in December with the USA Basketball senior women’s basketball team, it is unknown when she will play a WNBA game again.
