Indiana teen raises $11,000 for refugees<\/strong>
The Zionsville, teenaged son of a former Afghanistan political escapee from the 1980s has made a significant impact on the lives of the current Afghan refugees residing at Camp Atterbury. The teen began collecting donations from friends and eventually started a \u2018GoFundMe\u2019 account to reach a larger audience. In about 4 weeks, the fund had grown to $11,000, which was used to buy shoes and socks for young Afghans in the state of Indiana.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Last week, the teen dropped off 500 pair of shoes and 1000 pair of socks for the refugees at Camp Atterbury, 40% which are under the age of 15. The teen plans to start another round of fundraising in order to purchase new winter coats for the evacuees<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hoosiers interested in making monetary donations can do so through Team Rubicon<\/a> or the Red Cross<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ribbon Cutting Ceremony Commemorates Opening of New Indiana State Police Fort Wayne Post and Regional Laboratory
<\/strong>Last week, the Indiana State Police held a ribbon cutting ceremony to commemorate the completion of the newly constructed Fort Wayne Post and Regional Laboratory facilities. This new modern 40,000 square foot state of the art facility will now replace the previously outgrown and aging 8,000 square foot building, which has been home to the Indiana State Police in northeast Indiana for over 40 years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Fort Wayne Regional Laboratory provides forensic analysis of criminal case evidence for all local agencies across 18 counties in northeast Indiana.  The increased and continually growing demands for evidentiary analysis by contributing local agencies had grown beyond the older laboratory’s capabilities, making the construction of this new facility a top priority.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The new Fort Wayne Post & Regional Laboratory facility was stage 1-of-3 in a large-scale project which will modernize and increase the department\u2019s forensic laboratory services across the entire state.  Just this week, ground was broken at the Lowell Post in northwest Indiana, where a new Lowell Post & Regional Laboratory is now underway and slated for completion by 2023.  The Evansville Post will be the third and final facility built in the overall project, with an anticipated completion sometime in 2024.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kristen Hahn joins Former Maryland Governor O\u2019Malley as IU Kelley School Poling Chair<\/strong>
Kristin Hahn, a successful movie and television producer, director, screenwriter and author, will visit Indiana University as the Kelley School of Business<\/a>‘ Poling Chair of Business and Government this academic year. Hahn will be joined as the Kelley School’s Poling Chair this semester by former Maryland Gov. Martin J. O’ Malley<\/a>. The Poling Chair was established by the late Harold “Red” Poling<\/a>, a Kelley School alumnus and Ford Motor Co. chairman and CEO from 1985 to 1994. Recipients are given the charge to stimulate discussion in the areas of leadership, the critical interactions between private business and government in matters of public policy, enterprise competitiveness, and economic growth. Both Hahn and O’Malley will meet with MBA and undergraduate students and with faculty at IU Bloomington and IUPUI.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hahn has served as a producer for several critically acclaimed films, including “Cake<\/a>,” “The Time Traveler’s Wife,” “The Switch” “The Yellow Birds,” “Dumplin,'” “Stargirl” and “The Departed,” which won four Academy Awards. She currently is executive producer of the Apple TV+ hit series, “The Morning Show,<\/a>” starring Jennifer Aniston and Reese Witherspoon, which tackles topical issues in the workplace.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hahn’s first visit will begin Nov. 9. She will attend a screening at IU Cinema of the first two episodes of the second season of “The Morning Show” at 7 p.m. Nov. 10, which will be followed by a Q&A. The event is free but ticketed<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
