Lady Hoosiers #8 in AP pre-season poll
<\/strong>The Indiana University Women\u2019s Basketball Team has achieved a top ten pre-season ranking from the Associated Press poll this year. The #8 IU Lady Hoosiers, returning all 5 starters after a 2020-21 season which landed them in the Round of 8 in the NCCAA Championship Tournament, have earned their best ranking in program history. Last season they went 21-6, but have goals to win a Big 10 Tournament and push themselves into a Final Four and make a run at a National Title this season. The Big 10 will bew extremely competitive again this year, with 5 of their team in the top 20: Maryland (4); Indiana (8); Iowa (9); Michigan (11); and, Ohio State (17). Indiana kicks off its season on November 5th<\/sup> at Assembly Hall against the University of Indianapolis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Miah Michaelsen named Indiana Arts Commission Executive Director<\/strong>
<\/strong>The Indiana Arts Commission (IAC) announced today that Miah Michaelsen will serve as the agency\u2019s next executive director. Michaelsen\u2019s history with the IAC spans more than a decade, beginning as a regional arts partner for both the City of Bloomington and the Bloomington Area Arts Council. She has served as the agency\u2019s deputy director of operations since 2016. Michaelsen replaces Lewis Ricci, who retired after 15 years of service as executive director of the Indiana Arts Commission.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Before joining the IAC, Michaelsen served as the first assistant economic development director for the arts for the City of Bloomington. In that role she developed and implemented all aspects of programming and services offered to the creative sector by the City of Bloomington and its state-designated cultural district, the Bloomington Entertainment and Arts District (BEAD).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She also served in executive director roles for the Bloomington Area Arts Council, the Children\u2019s Hands-On Museum in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, and the Kentucky Art Center and Festival in Northport, Alabama. She has served on panels including the National Endowment for the Arts, Arts Midwest, the Michigan Council for Arts and Cultural Affairs, Arts Council of Indianapolis, and Cuyahoga Arts and Culture.  Michaelsen is a graduate of Hendrix College (Conway, AR) with a BA with Distinction in Theatre. She lives in Bloomington with her husband, Jonathan, and has two adult sons, Brendan and Wyeth. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Indiana State Police Partners with DEA for 21st Drug Take Back Day<\/strong>
On Saturday, October 23, 2021 the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) is sponsoring the 21st<\/sup>\u00a0nationwide \u201cPrescription Drug Take Back\u201d initiative. Collection sites will be set up nationwide for expired, unused, and unwanted liquid and pill prescription medications which will be properly disposed of without threat to the environment. Americans are now advised that their usual methods for disposing of unused medicines\u2014flushing them down the toilet or throwing them in the trash\u2014pose both potential safety and health hazards. Needles, new or used, WILL NOT be accepted for disposal.<\/strong>\u00a0 This service is free and anonymous with no questions asked.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Once again, the Indiana State Police is pleased to partner with the DEA, and as in the past, unwanted medications may be dropped off at any Indiana State Police Post, except the Toll Road Post.  The event will be on Saturday, October 23, 2021 between the hours of 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m.   <\/p>\n\n\n\n
